Freedom is no longer what it was ... I really could rant on this but won't I am sick of the way things are going and will continue to go .. Soooooooooooo Let us play what we want and the Gov't can suck a big one.
I mean it wasn't like they JUST were a gambling site. The charges against them include bribing banks and money laundering totaling $3 billion, so its not like they're only going after illegal gambling.

I am not defending the poker companies of how they bribed banks to accept transfers relating to online poker.. what I think is wrong is that the US made online poker illegal in 2007. A law that hardly any other countries have I believe.
I am hoping that the block on US online players on these sites, provokes them to stand up and get the legislation there changed. That way online poker companies would not have to cover up the means to which they provide poker in the future.
I think the companies indicted did indeed break the law and should be punished for knowingly breaking a law. However, I also think that it is a bad law to begin with.
Poker is wagering on skill. Lotto/pokies is wagering on luck alone. Thus Poker is not a true gambling game as a player at any time can have a positive Expected Value. Gambling is wagering on odds that always give you Negative expected Value.
That is my 2 cents anyway. I am very happy I do not live in the US though. (not trying to offend anyone however)
Well for one, this should definitely be moved to the Off Topic forums. And if you think the US isn't a free country you should really go visit some other places. I hear Iran has a whole bunch of civil liberties. Oh and while you're over there visit those freedom lovers in North Korea or China. Sure, we might have stupid internet gambling laws, but its far from not being free.
last i checked they froze all assets... did the users get the money they has in the webpage?

As far as I can see no one has got their money back and may not.
According to the Associated Press, a federal prosecutor claimed that the funds in question were seized “because they constitute property involved in money laundering transactions and illegal gambling offenses.”
If the money is dirty or illegal in some way or another, it won't be going back to the people.
Though it seems this happened before and people got their money back eventually.
In 2007, a similar occurrence involved Neteller. In July of that year, the company reached an agreement with the United States Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of New York to return frozen money to players. Approximately $60 million was seized; Neteller quickly exited the U.S. market and agreed to pay a $136 million fine. In January of 2007, Neteller founders John LeFebvre and Steve Lawrence were arrested on U.S. soil, which set off the funds seizure.
So who really knows. The site is at fault for running an illegal gambling operation and money laundering but the people might pay the price.

For those of you who play poker and are from the US, I urge you to get involved with what is happening.
I hope the US can regulate online poker so the whole world can play together. Not much of a player base in NZ
