I saw this video about 4 months ago on philhellenes youtube channel which I visit from time to time. I always had a hard time expressing how I felt about such a touchy topic as religion in a comprehensive manner. I often mention Ayn Rand and her views, though most people have no idea who I'm talking about.. Anyway after watching it I had my girlfriend watch it, she enjoyed it as much as I did. Than I had my friends watch it as a point in interest and good conversation. So I figured I'd bring it here and have you, my fellow Diablo fans watch it and discuss how you feel about it.
If you have 15 minutes to spare, it's a great thought catalyst.
“We act as though comfort and luxury were the chief requirements of life, when all that we need to make us happy is something to be enthusiastic about.” - Albert Einstein
I believe in both God and science. I don't want to be on my death bed thinking, " Well, I guess I am just going to die now, turn into a pile of stinky mush, and then dry out." Hell no! I prefer to believe that there is some kind of afterlife out there instead of nothing. And I don't feel it is requires for me to be a super religious umm person if I hope to land myself in heaven someday, if it exists of course. I was raised catholic, but while I was growing up things happened and I no longer bother attending church or worship or anything religious that requires me to leave my house. If God is so perfect, he should not require worship. So I just believe that if an afterlife exists, being a good person, and not a selfish twatface, murdurer, or rapist should land me where I want to be, just in case some kind of judgement is waiting for me. Plus I've seen some stuff, along with other members my family and friends, that lead us to believe there is something after death. Hard to believe right? Well it was hard to believe when I first found out just how big and complex the universe was too, so you never know.
I love watching videos about our universe, even if it makes me feel small and insignificant like shit sometimes, I still find the information mind boggling and amazing.
I have always believed that both the scientific community and religious community are right to a point. I mean, in the bible, it says that Adam was made from sand. If that was true, then the beach is a long long lost relative of mine. We evolved from one celled organisms that just floated around in the sea. This is where God may have had a hand in things, he poked and prodded and bingo: evolution. God is basically a mad scientist and the world his petri dish.
How would you explain a soul, well the religious reason is that everybody has a soul that interact with the world and are ghosts when they die. In the scientific community, ghosts are made up of energy, which is why we feel cold spots and see battery drain when one tries to interact with the world. That same ghost which has a concious, is a soul made up of energy that powered the body. How else would you explain the electrical charges that are continuously happening?

What is this scientific community you speak of?
Never knew science acknowledged the existence of the soul or ghosts.
Regarding the video, there's absolutely nothing thought-provoking in there. It can only please people who believe strictly in science and annoy others who are religious.
I found it boring, first five minutes at any rate.
Dust, actually. If you want to be technical Or at least insofar as KJV is concerned, which is considered by most theologians to be the most accurate translation into English.
Regardless, dust, dirt, sand--these are minuscule and irrelevant points.
Edit---
I suppose I don't really have the authority to say this, but dust even embodies a more literary meaning than dirt. Dust is smaller, lesser than dirt. It's more marginal to everyday life than dirt. Dust is what's swept away, whereas dirt is what is treasured for growing things.
I don't believe in any religion I have spent time learning. On the other hand to say everything came from quantum physics and the big bang is just as crazy. I spent so many hours consuming myself with this kind of stuff a few years ago, I decided to not think about it any more haha.
As apples said, this should really be merged. Hardly anything that's been said hasn't already been said and further expanded upon in the other "Religion versus Science" thread.
I mean, have you even stickied that thread?

I hate the way you cling to ignorance and pass it off as innocence

I didn't necessarily post supporting anything. Just nit-picking, since people seem to enjoy doing that.
on a related note, shouldnt this be merged with the ongoing religion vs. science thread or w/e its called?
