I would like to formally protest this post contest.
1.) People are just going to create multiple accounts in order to increase their odds of getting a key.
2.) The long time members are going to get flooded out by the newbs that are ONLY contributing for the key.
3.) The influx of new members normally creates an influx of repeat topics and questions that are often retarded as they are old old old news.

Remember that the last contest wasn't accepted very well by the community. For those who are new or don't remember, the contest at the end of 2011 was a photoshop contest, where the admins gave us a picture from the beta and we had to caption/photoshop it to something they liked. The last week of the contest was a writing contest*.
*I won third place and got myself this awesome "Edyrem" title. Suck it.

Yeah but this kind of feelings like selling out. When 95% of all posts are going to be by new users only in it for the key... the long time members will have a 1/20th the former chance of getting the key.
Its even worse because I GUARANTEE that people will create multiple accounts just to increase their odds of winning.

the photoshop contest was held to those threads, this is a flooding to an epic level. The writing contest was also Acceptable in my eyes, but really? This contest is just TOO wide spread. Its not going anywhere with So much dead space. What i hate even more is the fact most of those post are seriously 1 or 2 liners.

First, why would they need to make new accounts? It's fair to everyone, new or old.
Second, they want to encourage new people to join, so they shouldn't shut them out. I know that a lot of the new "members" will leave , but others will stay.
Third, the posting contest isn't the only contest. There's the trivia quiz, which requires knowledge of the universe (hopefully the questions will be so that the winners deserve it) and the build quiz, which will give good strategists their time to shine.
Also, I'm sure the mods will give a little priority to older members, even if they don't say so (why would they?).

No offense but you really didn't think about it with your first reply. The more accounts you create ... the more tickets you have in the lottery. The more tickets you have in the lottery the better your odds.

Tickets?! I just had to check the main page really quick. I thought they were just going to look through the most recently updated threads and look at the newest replies. I didn't know they'd be submitting tickets for each thing we posted or anything...then again, I didn't read the comments section of the news post or anything.

No dude you don't get it.
Administrators will look through and select 10 random posters (from those that qualified) every X hours.
Its not about how many posts you do... or how good your post is. You simply NEED to post.
If you post with 2 accounts you just doubled your odds of winning.

I guess. I don't. I'll go read it again, just to get it all sorted out.
...
I don't know. I still think there's a problem with what you're saying, but you may be right. I want to say it doesn't matter if you use one or more accounts, because it's still based on how constructive you are, but that depends on if they see only one post from your or not. Anyway, we'll find out, I guess.
I think it works by picking a random post from the time period, then determining that it meets the requirement criteria. If that one isn't on topic with a 3 sentence minimum, they will randomly pick another thread etc. until they find the winner. So multiple accounts wouldn't be an advantage, unless you are having long conversations with yourself daily. The easiest way to win would just be to participate in serious discussion with your actual account. I might be interpreting wrong, but if the first stage of the process is to randomly select a post from x hours, and second step is to test the criteria, multiple accounts won't help at all. Number of qualifying posts, and not number of accounts will raise your odds.
On the down side, I do think there will be a few people making excuses to post and giving repetitive opinions that don't really help discusions, but look legit enough to meet the requirements.
I don't like any contests where the winning entry is subjective, like the caption contest, what's funny/informative/useful is very subjective and just causes problems.

The question isn't why do I kill. The question is, why I don't kill everybody.
I find posting for beta keys a lot better for the community than trying to answer lore questions on facebook. Not only does it bring in fresh blood into the forums, but it gives people access to information that they would normally not know about pushing our community forward.
One problem that I have with it is that it is hard to tell who has the beta already. I feel cheated, almost, if someone who is already in the beta gets a key while others who haven't gotten into the beta get squat. And people having a conversation with themselves could do it by posting at work and at home with two seperate accounts, one for each computer. But I also understand that most people aren't smart enough or just too lazy to do such a thing.

You've been a member since 2008 and only have 34 posts? Get on the ball, son!

Just join in discussions. That's the best way to enter this contest.
