Highschool of the Dead - Post apocalyptic zombie goodness + ecchi on the side.
Darker than Black - Lightning infused action, and a talking cat.
Soul Eater - Collect 100 demon souls while going to school ran by the Grim Reaper himself, sounds easy no?
(Gainax produced the anime as well as FLCL,Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann)
Gantz - A mysterious game begins, the only rule is survive.(Only two seasons were animated it has a lot of gore and the Manga is worth reading.... no one is safe from dieing)
The Time of Eve (Mini series) - Humanity has grown accustomed to androids living within our society. A mysterious log entry leads to a cafe where no one discerns between human and androids.
Summer Wars - The world is becomming more connected online. A malicious User is on the loose. Can he be stopped?
Anything by Ghibli studios - Way to much to say Miyazaki is a god of Japanese animation
Ninja Scroll - Old School, gore swords and an old pervert hermit... need I say more?
Read or Die - Worth a watch imo, A girl can bend paper to her will, is this enough to stop a mad man?
Metropolis - Been ages but I remember I enjoyed it. More drama than explosions.
I recomend Bleach, thats what i am dowloading right now
But also a good serie would be Seikon no Qwaser, its semi hentai but its really good and funny. The main argument is that there are people that has special powers (control the elements) but they get they energy from women...
Right now i am following Naruto, Bleach and One Piece and all of which are on a pretty epic spot (except Naruto is currently in fillers). Other anime i recommend are Death Note, Code Geass, Fullmetal Alchemist (brotherhood), Claymore and Baccano!. And more but i just woke up so its hard to think.
Anime my friends recommend but i havent watched: Berserk, Trigun, Cowboy bepop.
I tried to watch Seikon no Qwaser but it was too much for me..
I strongly disagree. I recognize however that it's a matter of appreciation.
One example where the English(American) dubbing was way superior is Dragon Ball Z. The Japanese version plain sucks. You can't have a warrior who can destroy whole planets with energy waves, shriek like a girl when he transforms. Also the music by Bruce Falconer (not present in Japanese version) really complemented the series. All in all the Americanized version was way more enjoyable for me.
Generally speaking, I find French dubbing superior for animes(in terms of voice acting). I tend to watch the original versions with subtitles though mainly because I want to preserve as much of the material as possible(need accurate subtitles); and also some Japanese expressions which are quite entertaining and essential part of the series cannot be translated over.
Still, some anime in Japanese remain an underwhelming experience, so it's good to look for dubbed material if you feel you are not enjoying it as much. The difference will be very noticeable and you might find you actually like the series.
As for an anime recommendation, I would propose Naruto (original version). Easily one of the best I have watched lately. Very detailed action scenes, excellent music and compelling storyline.
It's 120 episodes in all- first 120 are without fillers and are the only ones worth watching as it ties in with the ongoing plot in the manga.
It should be noted that the first 30 episodes while fun will not be enough to get you hooked. But following that, the story really picks up and will definitely engage the viewer.
I'll add in some others later on.
*waiting for Gulliver to post in this thread :xD:.*
*Edited the awful sentence structures to make them readable*
You do realize I'm not here to promote this anime...since it is already one of the most popular ones.
My thoughts on the pace of the story was merely to give people realistic expectations. As to whether someone will actually watch it or not, well it's up to them.
I know I enjoyed it.
Brother hood had 64 episodes, and the movie isn't out yet it comes out this july in japan. Regular fma had 51 epi's which were in my opinion better than FMAB, which also has a movie called The Conqueror of Shambala. Avatar the last Airbender was a good story very engaging in bringing in the viewer to feel for the characters, and kekkaishi was okay i'm on epi 3 of Naruto and haven't seen any action but thats okay.

Friendship is like peeing on yourself: everyone can see it, but only you get the warm feeling that it brings.
I've never really followed an anime series before. I've seen like a Van Helsing episode long long ago. And recently I watched the Afro Samurai movie on Netflix(which I liked a lot), and then Appleseed(which I also thought was pretty cool). Oh and I also watched Spriggan. None of my friends watch anime so I don't really know what's good or bad. I like the violent stuff with people getting chopped up or exploded, fast action, cool visuals, and I'm not really into any love story stuff. If anyone has any recommendation that would be cool
