Okay, folks. I have, for several years now, really wanted to do a totally awesome Cosplay for Halloween. No, I don't want to be Sailor Moon. I have wanted to dress up as a Helghast Soldier ever since I first picked up Killzone. Let's face it. They're badass...
Case and point.
Anyways, I finally have the money to achieve this goal this year (due to my real job! yay!) and fully intend to make use of it. By Halloween - and yes, I do realize that is still some ways away - I intend to have a fully developed costume. Here are the pieces I have figured out so far. Let me know if you have any recommendations for any better products / prices out there. (All prices in Canadian Dollars!)
Rifle $150 (A bit expensive. Looks good though. If I can find a good looking, cheaper fake, I'll go for it).
Vest $80 (Pretty good price for the quality I'm getting. It looks good and is breatheable)
Boots $65 (Pretty decent price for my size, actually. FTR: I am size 14 Mens)
Kneepads $20 (Too expensive for an un-important item. Look great though. If I can find cheaper...)
Gloves $20 (Worth it for the right look/feel, IMO)
I've also got a couple little accessories I might buy into: Helghast logo sticker, bullet casings (which I will put into a clear plastic shell) to make the gun more like the real Helghast weapons... etc.
Anyways, I still need help with the following items:
Goggles: Any recommendations for better-looking and/or cheaper goggles? Also - very important - how do I get them to glow orange and still see through them?
Rifle: Any ideas about finding a decent looking fake that is way cheaper than this?
Handgun: I want a little cheap handgun fake. Probably will just get a watergun and spray-paint black or something (so not too expensive).
The rest I think I can handle on my own. It's just Jacket, Pants, Elbow Pads, and any other accessories I happen to think of. Thanks for reading guys! I will update as the costume comes along.
Definitely just get a fake rifle. Then you can polish it up and paint it all you want to make it look more real. Even find a way to add weight to it. Fake guns never have a good weight to them.
Balaclava $10 (It works)
Helmet $40 (Super-happy with this find!)
Goggles $30 (Way too expensive, not the right shape. I will be looking for others).
Respirator $20 (Perfect)
Rifle $150 (A bit expensive. Looks good though. If I can find a good looking, cheaper fake, I'll go for it).
Vest $80 (Pretty good price for the quality I'm getting. It looks good and is breatheable)
Boots $65 (Pretty decent price for my size, actually. FTR: I am size 14 Mens)
Kneepads $20 (Too expensive for an un-important item. Look great though. If I can find cheaper...)
Gloves $20 (Worth it for the right look/feel, IMO)
Not really what you're looking for but I stumbled upon them. Pretty badass.
Those are close. But I'm not so sure about the clear lenses or the removable spikes. I did a second search for "Steampunk Goggles" and turned up some intriguing results, though. Like: LINK. Which would work fine with a quick coat of black spray paint.

It's the difference between airsoft/paintball (what I have currently at 150) and like a plastic replica. Only problem is, I have no idea where to go about getting one of the really cheap replicas that wont look like crap. :/
Maybe I'll try reaching some of my theatre contacts, see if anyone knows any propshops or something that could sell me one.

Youre spending all that money on a ... costume?
Better get an Armani suit, at least that will get you laid.
Hey man, there are folks out there that spend THOUSANDS on costumes, whereas I am hoping to spend around 300. Besides, the glory of this stuff is that I can re-use it any time I want. Alternatively, if I'm really strapped for cash (which is unlikely) I can re-sell most of this stuff on Craigslist. And if it's not clear in my original post, I am trying to drastically reduce the cost of this thing.
Finally, I don't need an expensive suit to get laid.

Each set comes with a dark pair of lenses. 1 additional Lens set is included with each pair and may be clear, yellow, red, or orange. These are random and connot be chosen.
Those seem damn perfect then. Orange lenses, black spray paint, (dull black) It'd look perfect imo.
I'd say the goggles are important, they seem to be the key point almost to me.
I took the picture as that's just how the light is hitting them. I really don't see anyway to make them glow, some pairs you may be able to add small lights, but it would get really hot, and probably pretty dangerous, not to mention blind you 80% of the time.
You may have to just go with orange, or if you can a flourescent orange plastic lens would be better than just plain orange.
Get some tiny light diodes, I know a guy who did this with one of his Warhammer models, he installed light diodes in a green plastic section of the model, and it glowed. The effect was quite nice.
So, if you could position the diodes on the inside of the goggles, possible with a black piece behind it so the light did not glare into your eyes, you could get those glowing orange goggles.
As for the orange tint, get some orange glass spray. You can get it at Canadian tire, it's like a sprayable tint that people use to mimic stained glass.
So, alls you really have to find is the correct size of goggles, hope this helps mate.

"One in every 10 million people can potentially have a headache from this pill." God forbid she is the 0.000000001% of having a headache.
Oh! That is a good idea about the pilot mask, man! I'll see if I can find any around. Also, I'm liking the ideas so far for the lights. My biggest concern is being able to see out with the goggles down. Worst comes to worse, I guess I can always wear them up above my eyes when needing to see and put them down for photos or something. :/

This whole costume sounds totally bad-ass. I've never played Killzone, but if you put in glowing lights... will your eyes still be visible? And if so, wouldn't that look pretty far from the Helghast?
PlugY for Diablo II allows you to reset skills and stats, transfer items between characters in singleplayer, obtain all ladder runewords and do all Uberquests while offline. It is the only way to do all of the above. Please use it.
Supporting big shoulderpads and flashy armor since 2004.
For the goggle lenses, use Nightshade. It's a tinting spray designed for car taillights and headlights, or basically anything plastic. Its real easy to use, and if you do it right, it turns out looking like it was made that way. You can google "how to nightshade", and any of the car forums that pop up will have directions.
But for quick directions.
1. Scuff lenses w/ green scotchbright pad, wipe clean
2. Spray nightshade on thin and however many coats to achieve desired darkness.
3. Scuff lenses w/ green scotchbright pad, wipe clean
4. Spray clearcoat on thick.
As for the lighted eyes, I would say a single LED w/ a curved black shade that covers behind the light, so it doesn't shine in your face. And LED's don't get hot, so no worries there. Just wire it to an AA battery and you're set. The good thing with nightshade, is that you can go as light or as dark as you want, for visibility sake.
ah fantastic. Thanks for that!

Siaynoq's Playthroughs
the most badass costume: Priceless
Not really what you're looking for but I stumbled upon them. Pretty badass.
Now at first glance you may be like "wtf" but I'm fairly certain you can get them without the biohazard symbol, and the spikes are removable it seems.
Which without those 2 things seems to fit really well to me.

Can't find the right color but something like that. Kids toy glasses have that color some times.
Another alternative MAY be some sort of glow in the dark paint, or clear coating. Not sure what all they have available.

Something like that, depending on how much visibility you want.

get a replica pilots mask, it comes with the tubing
