Everytime I go to borders or whatever I see a shit load of Forgotten Realms and Dragonlance books. I've never heard anything about them and I'm not a huge book person but has anyone ever read any of them before?
I like it when it's an epic tale, following one person.
Nothing confusing.

The Wheel of Time. Not exactly one person being followed, but the story mainly revolves around one person.
To put it simply, it's about the end of the world. Prophecy tells of the last battle approaching, and how only one man, the Dragon Reborn, can save the world. But prophecy also says that he will break it at the same time. The story is far from just good vs. bad, there's a lot of other problems. Internal fighting between nations, distrust, disbelief in the prophecies, different ideas on how to save the world, different prophecies. Much of the plot revolves around human to human interactions. They're very good, although a bit slow at times.
Total of 12 books now, but at least the first three are quick of pace. Then it focuses more and more on politics rather than the Lord of the Rings adventure style.
PlugY for Diablo II allows you to reset skills and stats, transfer items between characters in singleplayer, obtain all ladder runewords and do all Uberquests while offline. It is the only way to do all of the above. Please use it.
Supporting big shoulderpads and flashy armor since 2004.
When my brother was in middle/high school he read a bunch of the Dragonlance books and seemed to enjoy the series. I tried reading one of them but at the time I was at more of a Goosebumps level and lost interest/struggled with Dragonlance. I may ead some of them eventually since I'm enjoying Knaak's Diablo stuff so far and he has done some Dragonlance.
My suggestion, pick up a Dragonlance book at a half-priced books or something for dirt cheap and try it out, if you don't like it try something else.
If you're going for straight fantasy, the first actual fantasy series I got in to was the Shannara series by Terry Brooks. It also has a bit of sci-fi in a later three-book part of the series, the Voyage of the Jerle Shannara. It also weaves in with my favorite of his writing, the Word and Void trilogy, which is modern dark fantasy without any of the sexual crap that normally plagues the genre, and the newest part that he's working on, the Genesis of Shannara, is (so far) a three-book section that is post-apocalyptic sci-fi/fantasy, an interesting mixture. Over all, the Genesis of Shannara, Shannara, and Word and Void total to... I think twenty books. It has a bit of everything in it. Warning, though- the first book in Shannara (which is where I think you should start if you're interested, although there is a prequel book), the Sword of Shannara, is heavily Tolkienistic fantasy. Brooks' own writing style didn't really come out until the Wishsong of Shannara.
And that's my advice. Added the Books prefix to your thread, btw.
A fantasy series I really love is Tales of Ulm. That's not it's official title, I don't think, but the first book in the series is called Gom on Windy Mountain. The series is kind of intended for a younger audience, but I still really love it. I read it when I was a kid and then like 20 years later I read it again. It's kind of interesting how differently I pictured everything in my head this time around after reading it again so many years later.
I've written reviews for two of the books in the series so far, but I still need to write one for the first and last book.
Here is a site where you can learn more about the Gom books. Don't be fooled by some of the presentation of the site. The books really are quite interesting.

Are you looking for just any recommended book or should it be something close the genre you've described?
