I have been using win7 since the beta came out and I have been fairly impressed. It still lacks some features I'd like to see.. but it is faster and the features it does have seem more useful than vista's... if you take the time to disable everything you don't normally need the OS speeds up nicely.. I will say I didn't notice more than a 10% increase in speed over vista, but I was running both on a 4.5ghz quadcore.. so perhaps lower end machines will have greater gains in speed.
Still.. I'd like to see someone (aside from linux based OS's) deviate from the whole glass/glossy UI... be nice to see something new and innovative... rather than lightly improving something everyone has been doing for years..
Edit: and you should be able to change the background color of the new "start" button... if you make the interface red.. the little blue circular windows button just does not fit in...
I have a question: I am an IST major and so I have free access to a copy of Windows 7. Currently, my main computer runs Vista. Would I be able to easily uninstall Vista and install 7 without losing already installed programs? Some of them have taken many, many hours to download off the internet, like Runes of Magic and some other things, and I have a lot of files that supersede anything on a moderately-priced USB flash drive right now.
while a clean install would be best, you should be able to do an "upgrade" install.. where you keep all your settings and files but it still installs the OS. Infact i am certain you can do this, says so on their site. You could always do what I am doing... burning everything I want to keep to a few DVD-R's and do a clean install...
Okie dokie. Now to go to Walmart and get some DVD-R's Still living in the stone age. I still have some floppy discs and a ton of CD's. (I'll look in to the upgrade install, too.)
yeah. so far. im really liking windows 7. i dual booted vista dn 7. and when i installed vista. it was about 1/2 the time was above 40% with a core 2 duo at 2.0 GHz.
with windows 7. i havent even seen it past 20%. haha.
im trying to find some tips or some stuff i can do with 7. to show you guys.
I will get to that right now. I have Diablo 1 and I can download the Diablo 2/LoD expansion online. I will post Results when I am done.
Diablo 1: installed just fine. all I had to do was change so it ran in 256 color, and 640x480 screen resolution. the processor on startup ran to about 50% on a duo core @ 2.0 GHz (remind you this is on my laptop.)
Diablo 2: When trying to install Diablo 2. It said win32 not found. Yes I could go to google and Find this problem and fix it. but I need food. haha. Also I did download the PC client through battle.net. So if you have the disk. im sure it will install. I have heard of people having diablo 2 and LoD on windows 7. Just if you have the Downloader from Battle.net you might have a few problems.
Ok to Diablo 2 and LoD i had a huge problem that i no longer even bother trying to get to play it cuz like i tried the online downloader and it lost my Bnet data once i played for a couple of days. I couldnt go on Bnet anymore i was so pissed... but yeah pretty much... Diablo 2 should in theory work.

D2 works for me. I have a few different copies of the D2 folder on my PC and a few different mods installed.
Lets see here...
Dark Alliance alpha, Hell Unleashed, Median XL, and the unmodded form I believe.(my brother was playing one mod, I another, that's why there are multiple copies).
I currently am not playing any of them, but they all work fine for me. I think all I do is run the program as administrator.

So Far: Windows 7 is awsome

Are the hardware programs (like printer programs, motherboard applications) compatible with the OS?
Yes, it is.
