Well thats the point of family guy and many others shows, the characters just dont grow up or get older. Seriously wtf would be the point if they did, do you really care what a 25 year old bart does or a 55 year old homer.
Well I don't know.. maybe after a 100 episodes a couple things should change in order to see how the characters interact as they get older and get into new environments. Imagine stewie in kindergarten, having to go to school, Peter and Lois suddenly getting more alone time together, Meg finally going to college. It's either that or what were currently seeing, which is running out of ideas and just turning into pointless lowered humor.
That's basically the same concept of The Cleveland Show and that fuckin sucked. I can't believe he actually has a show, it's not even funny and the bear... wft?!
Hey, I didn't say anything about her getting a spin off...
That was just an example of how character development sucks in shows like Family Guy. Sure, you see Stewie get progressively gayer and gayer, but you can only push that so far until you piss someone off.
Character development in a cartoon is hard to do. You see it a lot in South Park because they learn a lesson at the end of each show. In Family Guy, you seldom see it because of how spontaneous and sporadic the humor is. There isn't enough room for someone to learn a lesson. The last time I saw someone learn a lesson in Family Guy was when Meg turned Christian and was proved wrong by Brian.
I would hardly call that a lesson, ohh making out all Christians to be book burners, that is a wonderful lesson! But onto the actual topic at hand. Characters don't need to learn lessons, and family guy does not need to change its style of humor, all it needs to do is slowly, but surely, have the characters develop, or just change environment. Family guy has already done it in some cases, New neighbors moved into the neighborhood, Peter changes Jobs, Meg learns to drive, Bonnie has the baby. Those all contributed to later shows and funny moments. Just like if you had Stewie go into pre-school.
In shows like Family Guy you don't need the full on development and changing that you see in other shows, but you still need minor changes and gradual shifts that can bring up new situations.
I can hardly call what brian says a lesson. Brian said that the only thing you need in life is believing in yourself and in what you can accomplish. It's always the same mojo jojo. Nothing new to me, done multiple times in the show and in other shows (like the simpsons, they did it in a more clever way though).
^ exactly. Along with the fact the basis of the lesson was very much partisan. Meg turns into a strong christian, brain turns atheist, entire town suddenly goes mid-evil on him and treats him like a criminal. Meg joins a book burn, Brain tells her the lesson and that all she needs to believe in herself, and that if there was a god why would she be so ugly and abused all the time, etc, etc.
I don't really find that one of there better... lessons.
If anybody deserved a spin off on Family Guy, it would of been great with Quagmire.
Omg thats exactly what i kept telling people. The Cleveland Show sucks its just not funny, and it tries too hard.

Clevland Show > Family Guy. Lets put it this way, The first two Clevland Shows made me laugh more than any family guy episode I've ever seen. More than Prom Night Dumpster Baby!
Im just wondering why there are two married talking bears living in someones neighborhood with weird accents. It does seem midly random, then again, if it's made by MacFarlane it has to have something thats a creature and talks.
You didnt watch the family guy episode after the clevland show did you? Everyone in russia is a bear on a bicycle. The bear in the Clevland show has a russian accent. If you tuned out of the clevland show right when you saw the bear, you dont have an opinion, stfu. You didnt even see the flaming genital clutching opossum.
Still I'm gonna stick with Family guy + American dad, there's no need for another show (for now :P). Personnaly I never liked cleveland as a character, so ... ya.
yeah... they've largely stopped doing that besides the occasional death here and there. I also find it quite disturbing that there is a situation where someone can say that...
Well atleast they slowed down with it, because kenny dying every episode was getting old.

I like family guy better, but I've laughed harder when watching South Park.
(aka South Park can be really, really, really funny i.e. the economics episode and the "broke his jaw!" thing, but damn south park can be downright dumb sometimes lol)
South Park for sure. Watch the SP episode where they make fun of FG! They point out that all of FG's jokes are just cut scenes or flashbacks that are totally irrelevant. SP at least tells a funny story most of the time.
I personally never watch south park, its funny (sometimes), but its more stupid humor than it is actually funny. I'll admit, Family Guy isn't a show for a genius..lol, but the flash backs are always funny.
