The video was taken off before I could see it, but Murder brings a good point up. Killing a possum is not frowned upon, but killing a cat is animal cruelty. It is hypocrisy, but it is how the world works. Cats and dogs are elevated above other animals.
Anyway, idk, but if its half as bad as it sounds...
I guess everyone totally missed my post. I'll repeat again.
Killing an animal because it's a pest is one thing. It's normal.
Killing an animal because you want to eat it is normal also.
Killing an animal FOR FUN means you need to be put in jail or a mental institution.
If there isn't an animal cruelty thing for possums (I believe there is, actually) they need to add it. I don't care to whom the cruelty is performed, the person performing it is dangerous. I could care less of the animal, honestly. But the human, it's somebody I share the world with.

Indeed, I agree with half your post. Any animal should be cruelty, unless you plan to eat it, or it's a freak accadent, or whatever. (Always exceptions.) But yea, throwing rocks at a cat or a possum or whatever, just because you can, that's just wrong.
Also, I share the world with all living beings, not just humans... Dogs, cats, deer, possum, moose, mice, all living things have a purpose, and no animal deserves that kind of fate...
The dog would probably chase the cat regardless, it's what they do. I didn't see any rock throwing, and the cat isn't harmless, just outmatched. Is it okay to kill harmless chickens, cows, and domesticated whatnots? A cat is just a meal to some people. The only reason you are defending this animal is because it's "cute". If it where some horrible looking opossom, you wouldnt give two shits.
he threw rocks at it. anyone who watched its entirety can vouch on that. the cat would have lived if it had not been for the cruelty this man unleashed upon that animal.
secondly the cat is not a meal for anyone. the dog just killed it and left it, it was not killing it for food.
let me apply a human on human example.
Human A represents the cat
Human B represents the dog
Human C represents the cameraman
A is kicking a soccer ball around on a soccer field. Humans B and C come up looking for trouble. They confront Human A and taunt him and chase him threatening his life. Human C urges Human B to kill Human A - urges him and gets out his camera to film it. Human B being who he is goes and chases him but Human A is too fast. Human C runs and trips human A so that human B can get to him. Human B pounds his face in causing severe damage. However Human A escapes but Human B throws a big rock and hits human A in the head knocking him down and dazing him. Human B then catches up and fueled with encouragement from human C, then kills human A. Human B cackles all the while, and then both leave without robbing Human A.
id like to offer up this quote to you, and directed at you: "There are none so blind as those who will not see"
Ultimately id be more outraged if someone posted a video of it happening to a human. However it didnt. I am still incredibly mad though, at the fact that this man had the audacity to post this heartless, disgusting, cruel, and senseless video of a cat being killed for no reason. A death caused solely by the owner. the owner was responsible for his dog and he goaded him on to kill the cat. he then helped by knocking it from the tree it scampered up 2 times. laughing each time he did it....
Most hunters wouldn't hunt if it wasn't fun, and you cant tell me that every hunter I've ever met belongs in a mental institution, it's just nonsense.
@num Then why not raise a fuss over the beheading and execution videos on other sites instead of wasting your time complaining about some bored asshole?
Building off the point of "you wouldn't care if it weren't cute" point; snakes are killed in a practically extinction effort. And snakes are even pets to some. My household has buckshot pretty much on ready for anytime a snake decides to warm in the sun and makes an appearance. Yes, snakes can be poisonous and very harmful; but at the same time many snakes pose no threat at all and can even be identified and distinguished from a snake that can. If a snake is on the road I'll see people intentionally go out of there way to run it over. I've even seen someone pull their vehicle out of their driveway and do a burnout on one that was in the street in front of their home after it was spotted.
And this entire argument can go for bugs also. All living things, but we never seem to notice what "cruelty" we and others inflict on living things everyday; Human, animal, insect or otherwise.

Well for one this guy didn't appear to be hunting. I've never had cat but I can't imagine it's that good.
Which brings me for two. Hunters (a very high majority of them and most that I know) kill and hunt to, indeed, eat the animal. For some just for taste and for others to literally live and get nourishment (yes, those people still exist and I grew up with them).
Third point off of that is that hunters do their killing in a fairly humane way. I know that could be argued, but for the most part the calibers they're shooting is so fast and it all happens so quick that the animal really has no time for a feeling of torture; much like I'm sure this cat felt.
Having said all that, yes, some hunters do it for sport with no more intentions than to kill the hunted and mount the head on their wall. But those people, for the most part, are in the minority.

I'm saying that even the hunters that eat their quarry still get a rush from killing. I have never met a hunter that didn't find the act of killing an animal fun.
Most hunters wouldn't hunt if it wasn't fun, and you cant tell me that every hunter I've ever met belongs in a mental institution, it's just nonsense.
The thrill of the hunt isn't the same as the thrill of inflicting pain. And hunters eat the animal they kill
Genocides don't excuse a murder. Just because worse things are happening in the world, doesn't mean the smaller things should be ignored. People have this strange idea that if you care about the welfare of animals, you musn't care about all these other things going on in the world... Thats the main come-back - "but what about the millions of people dying in africa" etc. Like the same people who care about animals rights also dont care about that?
Yea, alot of people kill deer to feed there family. I know my brother-in-law and my sister do that during hunting season. Really helps there wallets, what with having four kids, and the condition one of them is in...
But yea, hunting for sport is....not right either...
As for germs, they are an active threat to human survival, and I will always support killing if you are in imediate danger, human, animal, or otherwise.
My dad's a hunter, but we always eat what he kills. It's a way of paying respect to the animal that gave it's life. It doesn't go to waste (well not most of it) and we eat our fill for the night.
But if my dad told he he only hunted because he enjoyed killing animals, I'd slap the shit out of him.
I can't respect anyone who kills only because they like the act of killing. Especially a animal that has little way to defend itself.
I'm not saying down with hunting or anything, but this is a completely different matter. No one's going to eat that cat. The cat had 0 chance, it even escaped only to be knocked out of the tree multiple times. How is there any justice or nobility in that at all?
That's just cruel. Imagine you're being chased by some muggers, you finally make it to the police station, but the police only drive you 10 blocks away and make you get out of the car every time, eventually you're beat to death.
The thrill of the hunt isn't the same as the thrill of inflicting pain.
Of course, but I'm not defending this prick, I'm debating what Equinox said. Torture is always a sign of mental instability.

If he cared about human rights more than animal rights he would have made a thread about it with at least half the passion. Oh, maybe he didn't think to make one... Just shows where his priorities lie.

That's what I meant.
But if my dad told he he only hunted because he enjoyed killing animals, I'd slap the shit out of him.
If he didn't enjoy killing animals he wouldn't be a hunter.
It's the art of hunting he enjoys. Waiting for the prey patiently then shooting it after many days of sizing up different options and letting them go hoping for the larger to come. Not just killing it. I think you're missing the point of hunting altogether.
If he just enjoyed killing, I wouldn't even want him around me. He won't even kill mice. We had a bucket of corn a bunch of baby mice climbed into and he let them go. He could have threw it in the dog pen, he could have put the hose in and drowned them.
If someone just enjoyed killing they'd just kill, hunting is NOT just about killing.
There are many reasons to hunt, a feeling of accomplishment, to keep the wildlife population down, to be in nature, to eat. None of those include sadism though.
Ok, I gotta say, using the phrase "It's a way of paying respect to the animal that gave it's life." made me do a double take. Had to read it a second time to make sure that I really read what you wrote...
No animal willingly gives its life up when in a normal state of mind. Animals, just like humans, will do anything to survive. So yes, pay respect, but not because it gave it's life up. It was killed, plain and simple. But if you use the meats and what-not then the circle of life continues.
And yes, there a thrill of the chase, and of the kill. Though, I've never understood how, with modern weaponry, where you don't even have to be anywhere close to the animal to kill it...
Idk...
But yes, I do get what your saying, just, that kind of phrase just upsets me...
But yes, I do get what your saying, just, that kind of phrase just upsets me...
Well it is respectful to make use of what we get from the animal. I know if I was killed it would make me feel better to know people consumed me and made use of me rather than killed me and left me to rot.
Even if that seems skewed and weird and illegal because it's cannibalism.
Animals most of all should be used to that though, it is indeed the circle of life and happens all the time as it has happened for thousands of years. Animal A kills Animal B, Animal A consumes Animal B. You will almost never find, I doubt ever will you that one animal walks up and kills another for no reason whatsoever. Murder is a human invention. There is only survival in the animal kingdom.
The act of killing the animal or the act of hunting after it and defeating it, maybe?
I wish this were the case.... and then you see hunters with scopes that completely kill the game. Some people like to hunt because they like killing.
I don't think "defeat" is a really good descriptor because it implies a fight =/
These hunters aren't looking for a fight - they're looking to kill.
(This is a generalization of course. Some people have legit reasons for doing what they do - I can't get behind any of the reasons unless it's for population control [which even that is a travesty])
Yes but animals have no idea what death is or have a slight concept of it*. It still is a mystery and fascinates us as humans. Animals drive completely off of instinct and survival. Survival to live and continue on; not survival of death.
*More of an opinion. We of course don't know for fact.
