I dont chase things, when I run I look stupid Sometimes if your insanely lucky, things can just fall into your lap, when they do it feels way better (because you didn't even have to chase it!). But that rarely happens. S'pose its a bit stupid too base your life around something as infrequent as that
This does not apply to me for some reason, I'm always perfectly content.

people who ultimately cant live with they have (constantly searching for greener pastures) are doomed to be less happy than someone who is willing to accept what they have and be happy.. thats what iv found at least
The basic human characteristic (at least one of them) is pessimism. The feeling deep inside that whatever we have is not everlasting, and that our quality of life is sub standard, eve if we own all the money in the world. The feeling that whatever we have, something is always missing, and is looming over the horizon, waiting for us. However, once we reach that horizon, and grasp that thing, we realize that we need something else, that that "thing" is not the key. Not every shimmering thing is made of gold, and every shimmering thing we attain, we label it as brass, but never as gold. It's human nature to aspire, but never feel content with what oneself has, although we should all be thankful to have bread on the table, and light in our house. Most live life aiming low so as not to be disappointed, though they always are, even if subconsciously so.
Things concerning things like marriage or what not, are tentative. In the sense that everyone has a different explanation to everything. To some, love is what Disney tells them it is, and to others, it's just an instinctive feeling to insure the continuation of our species. To some, being married for 40 years is completely normal, and love is everlasting; to others, being married for 40 months is unbearable, and love is a dying concept. Everything in this world is relative, if it weren't, different points of views and opinion would not have been present in our world, right? Right. We will always chase something, and when we get to said something, we will chase something else. And so the cycle continues, as we bounce from one thing to another, never being content with what we have, until ultimately, all we get are those 6 feet under the hard soil, and what's left is the nostalgic feel people get when one's image pops into their brain.
Wrong measuring stick ~ inferiority complex. Built into every human, your task is to get rid of it. All it does is poison your life. It doesn't improve your life, contrary popular belief. It may have worked for the cavemen long time ago but that's not who we are, and all this does to us is make us miserable, depressed, jealous, angry, etc.
Chase is better than the catch? I disagree completely. I hate chasing. A lot of you are holerics, and you can relate to this, but for us flegmatics we just want to settle down.
And, Num3n, you're talking about adolescent narcissism, which is part of confusion vs. identity that every adolescent (according to EE) experiences. Again, the sooner one jumps this stage, the better. It is a defensive mechanism that permits the adolescent to break away from parents/social influence and modulate his own philosophy, through the assumption that he is absolutely the best. P
Equinox i fear you aren't quite understanding, ultimately i wanted this to be a surface discussion. i definitely did not want it to become a discussion about what is built into us. especially as its so incredibly easy to mistake such things (very similiar to the scenario where you look through a medical book and by the end think you have 50% of whats in it). Just because everything 'fits', doesnt mean its true.
also, equinox... why do you always assume everything has to do with narcissism (or some mental condition)... Num3n: i want a snow cone Equinox: id say your displaying signs of middle aged narcissism... not everything boils down to a mental condition..
and finally what is: "holerics" as i googled it and no terms came up.

Every thing you do boils down to a mental decision which is affected by the condition of your mental state. Oh, and gullibility FTW!
