Thank you murderface, but I believe I have found a perfect solution. So I don't know if you do, but this thread has lost its purpose, so you can lock it if that's what you do.
EDIT:I decided to paint the back the right color, its a small picture.
I have a better solution. If your painting program can do it, set the background to transparent. Then save it as .gif (or something) and make sure you select the option that asks if you want the background to stay transparent or not. Well that works in photoshop at least.
MS-Paint :(. I'm limited to it for all of my custom images.
The avatar I have now is what I've been working on. I've been looking for this image for at least three years. I remember seeing back when D3.com was Dfans and now I have it back.
seems like you figured it out, but for future reference Gimp2 would also work for that and it's also free.
could do it with layering and transparency

It's just a manner of preference. When I was juggling between Gimp or PDN, I read around and most people said that Gimp has some nice features, but it can be tricky getting in to (exact words: not beginner friendly). PDN I basically just picked up and could figure everything out on my own, not to mention the highly active forum they have on their site with tons of great tutorials (I've written a few), examples, and a plethora of wonderful plugins adding basically anything you miss from Gimp or PS in to PDN. And, of course, you could always write your own, if you wanted to and know how.
Anyway, I did eventually learn how to use Gimp, but I was just used to the tabbed interface of PDN by then instead of Gimp's multi-windowed approach, so I stuck to PDN. Either's great for being free, though.
Dunno, it would probably be helpful if it was more formal, with lists to links of help sites, tools, etc. I don't think it would help much if people had to sift through a whole thread for detailed information.

Exactly why I think it should be stickied in its own thread.
Fuck you, I'm a dragon.

Dude, I think I found my first profile on DiabloFans. --->http://www.diablofans.com/forums/member.php?u=14787 Not sure why I used my old email address.
Yep. It's what I use Great suggestion, Murderface
What? My old profile was my email. I don't know what you are talking about.
I have become quite confused.
Free....
Also, you might just try cutting it down off the top and bottom, if you don't want to fool with transparencies and stuff.
