i didnt really follow the election or what obama said he would do but i havent got a problem with him and i think change is usually good, a certain amount anyways to sort of shake things up and get the dust off.
anyways the news i was watching panned the crowd waiting for obama. the crowd was yelling and all happy cheering him with open arms and awaiting change. now dont think its just america who has moments like this. This to me seems heaps similiar to Africa and the change of leaders. One leader rises to power overthrowing the old and he is met with open arms, cheering crowds and a happy populace, only to be hated later on. soon the next leader comes along and the same thing happens.
i cant help but laugh at what i saw because this has been happening forever with heaps of countries and i find it odd that no one in that crowd of people sees the pattern and how they are just plopping themselves into a continuation of the pattern.
it reminds me the last king of scotland quite a bit. however dont get me wrong i dont think any leader in the history of the united states has even come close to that guy..
If Obama does as well as FDR did then the open arms will have some justification.
And it's different than other countries atm because Obama is becoming a cultural icon. He is transcending the form of simply president. It's just, the way Obama is being portrayed and accepted completely unifies the people and if he does good then it will be even better.
If he fails, that will be one thing but if he doesn't fail then he will go down in History as one of the most important presidents.
It's like Bush, he says that he hopes History will redeem him and accept him where the public did not.
I related Obama to FDR because of how loved he was. Also FDR did a great job as the head considering the circumstances. Some feel that he was a bit indecisive but in the end he got the job done and in result was forever remembered as one of the greats.
If Obama can do that then he too will forever be looked kindly upon by history.
So no I dont feel the pattern you speak of really exists in America because sometimes the leader does an incredible job.
Take into consideration I'm not very biased here because I don't vote and never will. I dont stand for the ideas of our government. But I do know when I see someone who seems to have a level head.

The people who see that aren't in the crowd. Those are the sheep, every country has them.
Obama has one huge ugly problem facing him now, but then so does the rest of the world. He isn't going to be able to tow in the economic problem. In fact his plan will only throw fuel on the fire (mind you the Republicans are on board with it too as they also voted for the bail out).
Foreign debt is the problem and the stimulus money must come from somewhere, if not surplus, then taxes, if not taxes then we must borrow, if lenders won't lend, then the printing press. This is what all those in favor of the bailout are missing and what those against the stimulus and bailouts are trying to say. China has been warning us now they will not loan us money forever.
If you max out your credit cards, you don't cure the problem buy running up more.
My friend ran around asking if people agree with Obama. What he did was take everything McCain said, but claimed it was Obama who said it. And guess what, they all agree with it.
I swear, there are so many **** people out there who have no clue what they are voting for!
You're starting to remind me of my fellow Russians. They always look at America and want to say something bad about it to make themselves feel better. Except why do you need to do that? You're in Canada, a wonderful country. Leave Americans alone.
This doesn't happen similarly anywhere, because this is US and those are other countries, and US has a quite a different government. I went to a similar gathering in Ukraine. It's not, in fact, the same, because the Ukrainian government is so corrupt, there is no hope for change, and, of course, it didn't happen, even after the Orange revolution. Here, it can happen, past presidents proved that. It's crisis when good presidents get out.
Now, you don't have to understand. But don't bash, please.
Or is this another of your threads of "I want to say this but I don't know why."
For a Canadian, you're overly negative.
And you'd be surprised how many of those people are not sheep. Just because a person goes somewhere to see something doesn't make them sheep. People who sit behind their TV's bashing the people who went to an inauguration are much more of a sheep.
I have no idea why the entire world is caught up in this entire thing. Most masses like to hate America, yet keep rooting for a good president to lead it, knowing that there is no "good president". Let's face it. Whomever takes the pedestal, aiding Israel will be a primary goal, and economical gain another. IF one dares to step out of such a norm, his noose would be tied tighter than a nun's buttcrack. I personally thought that Obama's speech was quite reminiscent to those of beauty pageant contenders, but on a slightly broader, more international/political scale. If I were an American citizen, I wouldn't have voted for either. While I'd rather get stabbed than shot, I'd prefer neither. Americans are brought together by the same things that separate them, namely fear and comfort. The desire, however subconscious it may be, to become part of something greater than yourself, is universal, which is why you see plethoras of idiots line up to cheer on for Obama or McCain without even knowing why. In the future, when only nostalgia will remain, and remorse will become prevalent, everyone will notice where one has faltered, hopefully. For now however, the bailout is a huge mess. I would personally strangle and kill each and everyone who voted for it if I were an American. It stretches as far back as the Clinton administration, and whoever argues otherwise, better think twice and thrice. The whole world, thanks to America (and I say that with no offensive intent in mind) is a fuck up. Of course, America is aided by bigger fuck ups like Iran for example. Things are so messed up at the moment, Obama can really do little to mend what's already scorched, especially since he only has so little time to accomplish those stupendous tasks he talked about throughout his campaign, and briefly in his inauguration speech. Things are so fucked up now, one can't help but be reminded of WWII's conditions. One can't really fathom the shit us humans have dug ourselves into, due to personal greed and economical gain, and ultimately pure hubris and egotistical thinking. Few things will change, and some for the worse. Things in the Middle East are as shitty as they can get. Unless the new administration (and hopefully without intermittent assassinations) can find a common ground between Israel and Palestine/Arabs absolutely without bias, confessing Israel's wrongs instead of standing up for them thinking that everyone out there is a nitwit, and vetoing every goddamn thing, then we can only begin to picture a better world. For now however, I will settle this by saying that we are, indeed, F'd in the A.
You're starting to remind me of my fellow Russians. They always look at America and want to say something bad about it to make themselves feel better. Except why do you need to do that? You're in Canada, a wonderful country. Leave Americans alone.
If folks aren't careful they might get their wish too, I wonder how many have considered what will replace America, oh there is a scary thought. On the list of contenders, China and Russia, they are not benevolent countries and will rule with an even harsher fist.
Yes Bush was an idiot, and US politicians are making some stupid choices about the economy right now, almost the same mistakes they made in the 1930's. The world is about to get a lot uglier in 2009, lets hope cooler heads prevail and bold cooperation happens, the alternative is world war and then everyone will suffer.

Honestly Mephisto, I don't know how you guys do it over there. Living in area where day after day for thousands of years
some country is whacking away at another. The part that blows my mind is when I stop to consider I have gotten to know and made friends with people from almost every country in that part of the world. All good people, people are basically the same wherever you go. For some reason when you add a government and book of faith into the mix all hell breaks loose, people who would otherwise get along start fighting with each other. WTF!?!
If I lived in that region I would start a contest and I would call it "Launch Their Ass For A Million", all people would have to do is abduct whatever nut job people who are preventing peace from happening and show up to designated location near the ocean where there would be a massive hydraulic catapult waiting. In a televised event we would place the ass munches onto the catapult and bind them to several hundred pounds of weights. The contestants faces of course would be blurred but they would get to fire the losers ass into the ocean. Upon conclusion they would receive a millions worth of whatever currency they desired for each POS they abducted.
Come to think of it we might as well open that contest up to all countries.
I'll be fine as long as I have my gun and a fishing rod. I don't need civilization, I'm not dependent on it. Hell if everything goes down the shitter it might be for the best. I think that we have learned from history too much and are now afraid of revolution(also too lazy, they would rather sit on their asses watching heroes or dancing with the stars than fix their own fucking country). There's too many bureaucrats and opportunists, we need to clean house.
If folks aren't careful they might get their wish too, I wonder how many have considered what will replace America, oh there is a scary thought. On the list of contenders, China and Russia, they are not benevolent countries and will rule with an even harsher fist.

Want my honest point of view? It's all propaganda. Not to sound like that nerd who wears a tinfoil helmet to avoid the CIA, but that's the fact. Every western (and a lot of Middle Eastern) media outlets are biased. America stands of for Israel, and some stand up for Palestine, and for some reason, the people standing for Palestine are "Terrorists" or "War Mongers". Why? Palestinians have the right to live. It is, however, portrayed in the media that Palestinian blood is inferior to Israeli blood. So the Zionists are following their religion, and saying that it's their land. Well fuck me in the ass and call me a bitch, but don't the Palestinians say that it's THEIR land? Why can't they have the right to have THEIR land, just as the Zionists want THEIR land? Why take sides? Why not find some middle ground? It's because such grounds are near impossible to reach. When you live here, you grow used to such things. Most travel, and most just really don't give a shit like myself. Lebanon is pretty much safe now (well, relatively; since not one country here is safe from foreign intervention, y'know?). If it boils down to it, I'd gladly pick up a weapon and defend my country, which is really the upside of our people here; when there's a purpose to defend, life become a trivial thing. You should know well that the world is based on economy, and because of the economy, it's best that most support Israel, and shun down the Arabs. Arabs aren't innocent though, most are pathetic, sad old fucks who sold their souls so long ago, Satan got bored of fucking it. As hard as it is to believe, Arabs conspire against Arabs for a few $$. I can talk about this endlessly, but I'll just cut it at this, since I doubt many would support an Arab's point of view (with all due respect to anyone who would, really) but that's how I see things, clear of bias or anything of that sort. I don't get my knowledge from any media outlet or anything like that..I get a bite of everything, read everything, and conclude what is most accepted by my intellect.
"Do not believe in anything simply because you have heard it. Do not believe in anything simply because it's spoken and rumored by many. Do not believe in anything simply because it's found written in your religious books. Do not believe in anything merely on the authority of your teachers and elders. Do not believe in traditions because they have been handed down for many generations. But after observation and analysis, when you find that anything agrees with reason and is conducive to the good and benefit of one and all, then accept it and live up to it."
China (however unlikely it may seem) is the reason for all this conflict. China owns the US literally. They needed to clear a path from the Indian ocean to the Siberian oil fields so they could run a line to the tankers. Saddam stood in their way (he had similar plans). China used our outstanding debt to them to force us into war with him. The next hurdle will be either Iran or Russia depending on how the situation with Iran goes. Geo strategical analysts predicted this would happen more than a decade ago. If we could just free ourselves from oil this entire fiasco would go down the drain.
Umm, are you crazy? The gap between Russia and the rest of the world currently is great, and at the same time, the gap between America and Russia is great as well. China is growing, I won't say it isn't, testing it's weapons in Darfur, but I wouldn't look at it in any other way. The next world power will more than likely be Russia. Iran isn't even IN the equation to even be CONSIDERED..come on. China didn't force anyone into war. Where the heck did you even get all this from? Every war, has a technique. The same technique brought forth by a medeival pope. You cover your greed with a noble cause. Bush's "noble cause" was spreading democracy, masking his "actual cause" which is getting cheaper oil. China is still a small player is a pretty large game.
Mephisto I agree with your assessment, some Americans are suckers for the news but a lot of know when we’re being fed crap.
Murderface, interesting take. Funny you should mention this whole economic crisis likely started with a phone call from China to Paulson and/or Bernanke telling us the party is over as a guy named Karl Denninger keenly picked up on by listening to the ‘Ben and Henry Do Congress’ show. This is an interesting thread by Karl; he is an average guy with a stock website and you might be inclined to disregard what he says because struggles (badly) in front of the camera like most of us do. What makes you continue watching him though is he interjects mainstream media clips to make his point and what clips they are! In September he said our bailout dollars were never intended for America but rather foreign countries such as China and that he had irrefutable proof, that kept me watching him. Yes he does have proof right out of the mouths of our own officials. http://market-ticker.org/archives/674-Aw-Crap-Told-You-So-Again.html
China owns us its a fact. We depend on them for economic support, they could destroy us with a trade embargo. Russia is in sixth place as far as being a superpower. In the years following the end of the cold war the US embezzled an enormous amount of money out of their country leaving their economy in tatters. Only now are they regaining some of their previous influence. That wont last long in the face of the growing economic crisis facing the US and China. Shit is about to hit the fan, and heads are gonna roll. Oil is the new gold and people are going to fight for it in order to save their own skins.

That is $1.8 trillion printed and growing daily, the question is where is the money going to come from?
