If you follow his theories you will see that it is not a matter of if... but when every major religion will be forced to see the truth.
I really don't believe this man will be taken seriously until it is too late... stubborn religious fanatics have been clinging blindly to religion for thousands of years, and until recently, it has not really mattered.
Now that technology is getting to the point where we can actually make a difference, religion must be cast aside to allow for the expansion of the knowledge that will one day save our race of pithy little humans....
its not what religion is doing right now that is hindering the process. It is what religion IS NOT doing... to truly achieve a type 1 status we are going to need more cooperation from the world than we are getting right now... wake up and smell the beans boys and girls, science is the new type 1 religion, the sooner stubborn groups of religious (and non) groups realize this, the better chances we have of actually making it.
This is what Michio Kaku is striving to teach, with his incredibly hard task of finding the equation for everything.
You do not understand how Theology works dub lucifer
Theology may change, but it will never disappear - It may become less fanatical and dogmatic
At one time before people knew the truth about volcanoes and lightning strikes, these were gods wrath - and before that when the sun was an enigmatic entity... Yes, theologies exposed to science tend to change as science explains more of the natural world . And today, alot of Christains have come to realize that the Old Testment perhaps may be more of a fable with moral meanings than historical truth
These are just small things though (the bells and whistles of dogma). The nature of Theology is that, at the very centre, its core beleif are impervious to logical and critical thinking. In Monotheistic religions it would be something like "omnipotent omniscient creator of the universe and mankind plays direct role and influences man"
Or instead of reducing dogma, they somehow reverse it. Some religious people actually use the law of conservation of energy as proof that the soul exists
Your far too optimistic dub

If you follow his theories you will see that it is not a matter of if... but when every major religion will be forced to see the truth.
Can you elaborate? or link me to somewhere that will explain this further
To elaborate on that, I am referring to the religions that are physically a determent to not only scientific progress, but the chance our race makes it to type 1, and does not die out. Dr. Kaku is trying to put an end to all of the people in the world that are slowing this procedure. There is nothing wrong with the morals and teachings of many religions, and I hope they stay around forever.... But it is the people who follow certain religions, that are in a position of wealth and or power or that make critcal decisions that are the problem. We are in a race against time right now, there is simply no denying that at this point, the question is what can we do to increase our chances, at this, the most important time in human history, the time where we decide if we are going to make it.....
you said this; "And today, alot of Christains have come to realize that the Old Testment perhaps may be more of a fable with moral meanings than historical truth"
If the rest of the world would only look at it this way, we would in fact have no problem. The moral teachings in many religions must never be forgotten, but there is no denying that the teachings in many of the current religions are without a doubt slowing the progress of the type 1 transition.
Many people do not comprehend just how important this generation and the one that follows, truly are. We can have it both ways, all I'm saying is right now we need to be putting every available effort into the knowledge of attaining type 1 status, and some people are STILL against it... these are the people I am referring to.
I definitely am optimistic, but you can never be too optimistic when you are talking about saving your species!
I see what you mean, but it will never go away ... just evolve like Genesis was saying. Hell, people might start worshiping matter itself in the future or something.
Could you elaborate on the types? Type 1, etc. I'm not sure what you mean by that, probably because I've never read his books.
Though, if he'd just talk about them on the history channel, I'd watch intently. I love listening to that dude lol.
Could you elaborate on the types? Type 1, etc. I'm not sure what you mean by that, probably because I've never read his books.
Basically a type 1 status is a species that have evolved to the point where we basically get our energy for for free, from the technology we use to harness the elements of both earth and space, as well as the ability to achieve type 2 and 3.
When/ If we achieve type one, we will no longer be in danger of ruining our planet. Our only concern at that point will be overpopulation of the earth, at which point we must evolve to type 2.
Nothing is more important than achieving type 1, and that is what Dr. Kaku realizes, which is why he has put forth so much effort into his career. He is a big part of the crowd that is steering us towards type one, although I am confident he will not succeed in his quest for "the theory of everything" I do believe that his work will be an important piece of the puzzle. Without people like this man in the world today I fear the thought that we have absolutely no chance.
At this point I am still clueless as to how people can still ignore the fact that our planet is dying, and sadly we are all doomed along with it....:(
Okay.. I understand what type 1 civilization means now
I cant believe im defending theology here but... How is Theology holding back our ability to find a massive energy source that doesnt destroy the Earth?
Meh. Religion is a result of many factors. Instead of paying attention to those factors, which are causing the problems, people point to religion. The usual.
stealing something from one of Dr. Kaku's books here :
WMAP (Wilkinson microwave anisotropy probe) The findings of the WMAP satellite represent ?a rite of passage for cosmology from speculation to precision science,? declared John Bahcall of the Institute for Advanced Study at Princeton. Cosmology today is finally coming of age, emerging from the shadows of science after languishing for years in a morass of speculation and wild conjecture.
I agree that religion(s) are not the only problem out there, but most are definitely a big part.
Something McLuhan said: "there are a great many reasons of why people choose to live in the age just behind them, it is safer.... to live on the front-line of change is simply terrifying, and is why many people choose not to do it"
Religion is a consequence, symptom, of greater problems. Problems that have been haunting humanity from the beginning of time. McLuhan has a whole chapter on how people like to be in groups - religion gives them such a grouping. Religion tells them how to live - people don't want to be in control, they prefer things to be decided for them. And people don't want to be responsible for their feelings and actions, they want religion to give excuses, such as original sin...
Funny you should mention original sin, because the way I read Genesis chapter three is quite a bit different from the way it's taught. My spin goes something like this:
God and the Serpent were arguing about Man. The serpent sided with Man, saying they are free spirits, and can make up their own minds. But God their creator wanted to remain in control of His project, and saw the serpent as trying to take over.
He became paranoid that the Serpent would somehow get Man to join him. So he made a special signal to check up on Adam. As long as Adam doesn't eat the fruit in the center of the garden, he will know Adam is obeying God.
But the serpent tells Eve.
"God's tellin ya you can't eat from the trees now!?"
"Oh no, just that one in the middle there."
"Wake up! He knows if you do, you'll discover the truth."
So she tries it and you know what they find out? That it's just fruit. That God tricked them for the purpose of obedience, due to a conflict with the Serpent. The only thing that 'died' was their innocent faith, killed by fear of loss of control.
And what did God do? He threw a fit! "Why are you hiding? Did you eat the fruit? Get out, live on your own; your lives are gonna be hell. See how well off you are without me!"
Of course, that's just my take on it

-Rofl Coptor-, I seen a quote somewhere or maybe it was in a song ("a world of pain and suffering all for a fucking apple") your post reminded me of that, truly if these fables are true, GOD is a stern master....
So now I have been researching something called string theory (and M) theory, and am astounded to learn that these theories are now being taught in every major institution, worldwide, the information is so new, yet it might turn the scientific world (and yours) upside down.. so is it worth researching? I was amazed to learn that string theory was first discovered (like many things) by accident, a young physicist was looking for an equation to explain the unusually strong bond that holds an atom together, and In doing so, stumbled onto a mathematical equation that was over 200 years old, and that was the base for string and M theory today!
It just goes to show that just because something is in the distant past it does not mean that it can not still be applied to the present.
Many famous (and non) physicist's/scientists alike, became so unraveled at the fact this equation was sitting there, waiting for someone to find it, that they took it as in insult to their own intelligence., but were overzealous to jump on the string theory band-wagon, the theory (and equation behind it) were just so amazing that it shocked the hell out of everyone! Sometimes the keys to unlocking many mysteries already lay hidden somewhere, it just takes someone with the right mind set and devotion to unearth them.
I was amazed to learn this, and am now closely studying the five string theories along with the one underlying "M" theory, derived by Dr. Green, it was said that "surely a shelf of noble prizes awaits for the one who can solve the M theory equation" At this point I am still pretty clueless (I mean one glance at these equations gives most people a headache, it looks like it was written in hieroglyphics by ancient Egyptians) and this statement is coming from many renown physicists as well, not just me.
Still I feel that the solution to these new wonderful theories will give us the knowledge required to produce the technology needed to attain type 1. It has been said that String theory and M theory are completely untouchable, in a sense that there is no observation or experiment that can be done to prove them wrong. While this is true, on the opposite side of the fence, solving these theories will either prove one of two things,
1. It proves everything.
2. It proves nothing.
While I hope this theory is solved, I am almost certain it will not be solved by any ONE man currently alive on the planet today.... it is going to take the combined efforts of nearly every scientific mind to solve such an equation.
(BTW did you know Mr.Crowley was homosexual (passive), LOL. Its just disturbing to know that as otherwise i find his ideas pretty interesting.)
What's wrong with homosexuals? Some of my closest friends are homosexual. Hell, I'm bisexual. Doesn't change me or who I am.

Learning is the most important. Most people just think the way ideas are pounded into there head, without looking into it.

Eventually as a type one civilization, we would be capable of controlling volcanos, earthquakes, tides and tidal waves, etc. We truely would be in control.
Type two, we would take our energy directly from the sun. Eventually, rather then Solar converters, we would build around the sun and collect not one fraction of one percent but rather all the energy of the sun. A good example of this in modern television would be Star Trek.
As a type three civilization, we would harness the power of the galaxy. At this point, your race is essentially bullet proof. You will be able to control the explosions of stars, halt nuclear fires, and so on and so forth. A good example of this in modern television would be Star Wars.
But Type Two and Three are not within reach for our generation, though Type One is, and is the important thing at this time.

I really hate to say this, but these two statements seem like opposites to me.
I see value in modelling the position of an electron as a probability shell, but that doesn't have to mean that it's location isn't specific at each instant. We could model planetary orbits the same way, it's just a matter of our camera's shutter speed.
What if I have a theory that everything just beyond the limits of perception is made of green cheese? That might seem absurd, until we see the speed of light defines the furthermost extent of our universe according to the big bang theory. Beyond that ever-growing sphere, all kinds of fantastic nonsense has been suggested.
Assertions about the immeasurable court foolishness. I prefer theories that match the witnessed universe in ways competing theories don't.

Type 1 really isn't this guy's idea, Type 1 basically means the Earth's resources are being used with 100% efficiency. If it's the same term.
They might not have worshipped him at all though if it wasn't for the Missionaria Protectiva.
