I really do get a hearty chuckle out of the RIAA. I think about it like this, there's websites that let you download unlimited amounts of music for small monthly fees, you have the ability to record music straight from the radio / hd radio w/ cassets, and some cases even with cds. Hell I even have a program that I bought at walmart, that allows you to record as much music from internet radio stations as you want.
I mean what the hell are they trying to do? Someones downloading the song straight up from a p2p site, but they dont go breaking doors down for the things I've listed, which are most likely on a high scale if not as high as p2p sharing. It makes me laugh so hard, they're doing it for a quick buck an possible pats on their backs to stroke their own little egos'. It's not like the music industry is crashing, it's growing.. tremendously, look at how much itunes makes, look at all the swag an tickets sold for concerts, they make SHIT tons of cash. Then they try to go around an take single moms for $35,000 fines for downloading a some music.

I agree 100% but remember your dealing with corporations that have one thing and only one thing on there minds, and thats money. If going after stuff like torrents and what not means they could get just a few more sales in the long run then its worth it in there minds even if they are continueing to grow and have increased profits every year.
I know exactly what you're talking about, I just did not quite word my stuff out right, I guess I just think it's wrong; to turn on the evening news and hear about a mother with a young daughter getting fined for thirty-five thousand dollars for sharing music over p2p services.
I know all these big time corporations think nothing but money, cause money is power to most of the world, but to see a family get shattered due to these extremists "trying to set an example" is just wrong, music is a gift, it's something that's everywhere; anyone can make music. But these people throw flash, flare, and fashion into the mix and turn it into something evil, and they use their posse "RIAA" to go around an beat people down for loving music.
<rant>I think it's extremely petty of the record companies to pull this crap. The artist themselves make their money off touring. They hardly see the cash flow from their albums. I mean, Trent Reznor and Madonna both put their albums online. The outcome? Record sales didn't go down.
It's just stupid. I buy CDs from artists I know I want to support, otherwise, if I only like a few songs, I'm not going to buy the entire album. Sometimes, I'll buy things off iTunes just to show some support for new artists, but other than that.
I mean, we all do it. One way or another, we do. It's just stupid how they think they are going to arrest billions of people who download music everyday. I don't use Limewire or Kazaa. For that, I just buy the bloody single off iTunes.
That's such bullshit. Lol@them thinking they can pull anything off here in Lebanon. Stop the download, you kill the ISP, since most internet subscribers here download a shitload. Why? It's because you can't get anything from stores here. Take me for an example. I can't get a Bloodbath or a Marduk record at any music store "legally".. so instead of doing something illegal and paying for it, I do something "relatively" illegal for free. You can't buy most types of music here, either for lack of availability or just because it's illegal (Metal).
Go ahead and ask our retarded government, don't ask me..I'm the one who likes Metal and downloads Metal here, not the opposite. I think now they're working it out, as in working out the details on the whole "Metal will now be allowed in Lebanon, with regards to concerts, and albums" thing. I'm hoping they pass it soon..I want to buy my music and support the bands..not rip off their work and download my music.
^He said he was in Lebanon. I can believe that. A friend of mine is from there (moved to the US when he was really young though) and I remember him telling things like that.
I think it's stupid. The artists don't care (except Metallica cause they are stupid half the time). They make money off concert tours and t-shirts.
here we have some bands that made them selves famous by uploading they music to the intenet and letting people download it for free... no record no nothing and they are full of money...
I'm sure some artists care. But yeah, it's mostly the record companies that care.
Most don't really care. I mean, I can say it's really just Metallica (and a small band of others but not many) and as much as I love them, I hate that about them. I loved Napster. They just had to kill it for no reason.
The artists who own their own companies like Madonna and Alanis Morissette are just some examples of artists who just go against all of that because they know the money is in touring and merchandise sales. You pay (at least I do when I love the band) 24 bucks now a day for a shirt at a concert and about 50 or so for a ticket. That's way more than 10 bucks for a CD.
It's illogical on the artist's part to care. The record company who is owned by someone who is not an artist, of course they are going to get into legalites even though their sales faulter by very little. It's because all they money they earn is from iTunes sales and CD sales. :|
I still buy music but I have to like the music I'm buying A LOT and half the time, I'm just buying singles and making playlists of artists I like.
I don't see the problem and why these morons who have huge houses have to come down on poor people who barely have money to scrap by. It's selfish if you ask me. The RIAA is selfish.

Because like I said, they make the money off their merchandise and tours, not their CD sales. I believe TLC said in an interview ages ago that they received a very small cut for their first 3 CDs. They were living off live shows and what they could sell to the fans.
After the 3 CDs, they saw a bit more cash flow from sales, but it was still touring and merchandise that was keeping their bills paid.
I would but I am so bad at it, I feel I would make a n00b mistake and next thing I know, the RIAA has a couple lawyers five feet up my ass.
I just buy everything. It's easier, more organized (hard copies), and I have plenty of money, so it's not really an issue. Also, I am glad to support the companies and bands that I love.
(Even though they don't necessarily reap a direct profit, it still shows they have a fan base.)
Fuck you, I'm a dragon.

~my two cents.
