Because the person works for Blizzard? LOL i love how people assume everything!
Ok then, enlighten me... Who here works for Blizzard, has final and official information about the new Battle.net and what services will it provide for Diablo 3 in order to justify monetizing it?
Just because you agree with him doesn't make it a good post. Blizzard is a business first and foremost and they are here to get ahead in their industry, albeit they are dominating it.
But again, no one is forcing anyone to buy the game. If you don't want to play for a small fee or other micro transactions, you have the choice not to do so. Bitching about it on a forum isn't going to change anything at all.
If it becomes necessary to engage in these microtransactions in order to be most effective in D3, blizzard will be forcing those who are unsatisfied by mediocrity to make them. If such a situation exists, I guarantee that many players like me will not be buying D3.

Thought only idiots would consider buying the game at this point and that you weren't going to buy it anyway?
Let the emo out i guess...maybe you might develop some wider perspective in the process!
I bet it will be a monthly fee like Flagship did with Hellgate London. They will frequently add new areas and dungeons that are only accessable to the people who pay 5-10 bucks a month.
It was actually a really cool system for that game because you were never at a huge disadvantage if you didn't play... You just didn't have as many places to explore.
I like the idea of them giving the option to pay, I think it will give them more incentive to release more expansions, update the game frequently and most of all keep it hack free.

It's not impossible for Blizz to take the road that Flagship did with Hellgate. But considering that they've got a new MMO to handle + Starcraft II being split up over 3 trilogies + WoW getting a new expanion; I doubt they have the manpower to keep creating regular content updates for Diablo III in the first place.
I still feel they'll do the ol' expansion pack within a year to it of course and add features and things there.

That could be true.
But don't they have seperate development teams on each project? (Aside from Starcraft which the team is broke up amongst all three of the projects) I think it is very possible since they have already said that there will be expansions to D3.
I would actually be a HUGE fan of it if they did it like Flagship did with Hellgate. Constant new gameplay would be awesome.
Blizzard isn't dumb enough to restrict items you can wear and things like that... I think it is going to be extra areas and such, considering they said people would get their money worth if they did spend it.
They already have different teams for each of the games.. Seriously its blizzard, they know what they are doing, they aren't Flagship nor EA. They have already over 2000 employee's from 50.. 12 years ago.
Indeed- don't get me wrong. I have full confidence they'll do what's right and what not. I'll respect the decision either which way it goes...though for my pocket's sake I hope its a not a pay to play thingy. Nevertheless like Phrayed said it would be cool to get worthy new content updates.
Although the dev teams are separate- i was always under the impression that the D3 team was significantly smaller than the SCII and Warcraft teams.
Also there was some mention of a Warcraft IV- if that's true :P...there's alot of things on their table
Eitherway lets hope we get an awesome ride out of it.

This is the kind of attitude that allows game developers to keep releasing software that requires ten to twenty patches that include everything from bug fixes to final play balancing.
In essence, you're laying down $50 to be part of an extended Beta Test. If I'm going to spend that kind of money, and choose a game in a flushed market, the game better be either damn good to justify the patch timeline, or actually finished upon release.
Your point about no one forcing me to buy a game at gunpoint is very valid, IF the argument was that D3 is the only computer game in existence. Because it isn't, the argument becomes one of Blizzard having to make a case as to WHY their game is better than the others out there.
In the past, their reputation earned from games like Warcraft, Starcraft and the first two Diablos gave them "loyalty capital" which payed forward to the userbase and made the success of games like WoW possible. However, with the morphing of the second sequel into a more WoW type game, long time fans are understandably concerned and even frustrated that the direction is foolhardy, and may be simply pandering to the 9 million subscriber WoW playerbase.
Which is smart economically, but reputation wise perhaps not so. And to refute your last point, the ONLY outlet for fans to voice their concerns are forums like these, and while most posts may be impotent complaining, the sheer volume and repetitiveness indicates a certain kernel of truth to those concerns. Besides no one forces you to read and respond to these posts but you do.
Can't believe they make millions a month yet they have to do senseless things like that. Well, the american dollar continues to get hampered. I didn't think Blizzard would go that far honestly, but they did, how sad. Nothing but greedy wenches now. So, will this be the case for Diablo 3 Battle.net ? No way in hell will I pay to go online, steam is free and they update daily and they don't even make millions a month.
Guess the Blizzard-Activision acquisition was a bad one to say the least.
steam may be free but the games arent get it straight. pls do u really think that blizzard will release a game just b/c they are loyal to the gaming community,NO they are doing ti for the fucking money and dont think other wise. and to those that say they will not buy th game stop bsing use i will guanturee you will buy the game at one point or another.
either way im getting the game and i hope not to see any of u complaing ppl in it

Oh I'll buy the game alright, but I won't be going online if they charge monthly for a service that should be free, if a game needs to be patched " fixed ", it's their problem they need to deal with. Games should not ship incomplete and buggy in the first place. I'm sure they don't need pocket change to fund patching either.
I can understand why a company like Flag Ship Studios known for their failure " Hellgate:London" needed to charge a subscription for " luxuries " to fund patches and new additions since they were a new company with little revenue along with one game release, but online server storage was still free with atleast three large multiplayer servers ran simultaneously along with numerous full fledged patches.
He said they will charge for the new content that they develop. Wtf did you think?? That they would just give it to you for free??
Note the word 'CONTENT'.
It could mean things such as a large content patch, think in the way of wow where you get patches that add entire new dungeons/zones/quests/raids...
Maybe with D3 they will have patches that increase the game quality in that sort of way, so there will be area's that initially lead to closed dungeons that are opened up through patches that you may have to pay for online.
The problem with that sort of thing is that it essentially becomes "pay to play" unless they allow you to interact online (battle.net 2) in the same area as others who can use new content that you can't.

"If we're actually making the game worse with no other reason than to be different from WoW, then it's a bad choice." - Jay Wilson (D3 lead designer)
We charge people if they want to switch servers or if they want name changes, things that aren't core to the game experience, they're really just optional things that some people want. It takes us some development work to do it, so it makes sense to charge for it. We would never do something like say to get the full game experience, you'll have to pay extra.
Ha, I was right : P This is exactly why I said everyone shouldn't get worked up when we don't even know what they are talking about yet.

Great article...
So who cares if you have to pay a few bucks to name change or whatever?
That's perfectly fine.
