they have been sued 7 times and put 6 billion dollars into this whole thing.. if a black hole was created some how, why wud it dissapear, wuldnt it just grow and grow. they say it wud take atleast 5 years for it to ingulf the earth.
Black Holes don't work that way. They need to have enough mass to start out with to suck stuff in.
Think of it like this... There's a balloon, okay? This is representing our black hole. Now, somebody starts blowing into the bottom (inflating it) - this represents the matter it's sucking in. However, the instant someone starts blowing into it, someone pokes a hole in it with a pin (deflating it) - this represents the loss of energy (or radiation) given off by the black hole. Even with someone blowing into it, the balloon's inability to stay inflated (due to the hole) will cause it to collapse on itself.
Now - let's say there's a balloon the size of a star and someone pokes a hole in that. Obviously it's going to take a lot more time for it to collapse, since there's a lot more air in it than in a smaller black hole - hence why larger black holes last longer.
Scientist live for this. Even if it did create black hole (Which I highly doubt this machine is that powerful) then I guarantee It would dissapear in less then a nanosecond, leaving the world unharmmed.
It all really depends in what theories you believe in and how correct we are. I think the main fear comes from the fact that Black Holes are in essence a theoretical creation. Besides the gravitation that they exert on other objects, there's nothing else to tell of them, so even excluding the fact that they cannot directly be observed, they're also very far away.
And Hawking may be wrong you know. Perhaps Hawking Radiation doesn't exist.

On the black hole note, if this was really going to have the possibility of destroying the known world, do you really think scientists with degrees in things that I can't even pronounce would risk it?
Yes.
EDIT: I noticed a very strange notice in a newspaper the other day, where the photons that had been fired to test the equipment at the LHC a few weeks ago supposedly exceeded the speed of light 100,000-fold. There was no real reference or anything, so I doubt it's true, but that particular paper is usually trustworthy.

Nope. They fire them at 99.99999% the speed of light. I could be off with a few 9s but you get the idea. The guy in the TED video I posted above explains it too.
I know how the experiment works, that wasn't the question. The question was that, according to the article, the photons had acquired much greater speed for no known reason. The point of the notice was that perhaps relativity was wrong. I doubt it, that's why I'm wondering if anyone else saw anything of the sort.

Never heard that about photons, although i did a long time ago read something about some sort of neutral thingy (particle, wave, don't ask me) and how they interact with eachother instantly, nomatter the distance. I think it was something like two of them being neutral and from the moment one of them changes into either positive or negative (happens randomly, none knows why) the other changes into the opposite instantly, thus somehow there must be a reaction between them thats infinitively faster then light.
Hmm. I in turn have never heard of that.
Suffice to say however, I wouldn't be surprised if the LHC put at least a few accepted theories on their heads. There is the possibility the Higgs particle doesn't exist

I just hate it when media drops titles like "Black holes may kill us all" and then put up some youtuber explaining why this will happen and neglect to ask a real scientist to explain it. Misinformation sucks.
That's what the media does about everything- they gloss over the real facts, throw in some interesting bias, their own or otherwise, and play off the piqued interests of the people so that their articles get more hits. Half lies are always more interesting. Kind of annoying, isn't it?
Anyway, I'm sticking with the fact that scientists who probably have higher educations in their respective fields than 99% of the population are in charge of this, and probably know what they're doing. Worst case scenario, we would all instantaneously die, so we wouldn't notice anything. At least at that point the universe would be rid of the ugly scar that is humanity.
you're american i guess? before throwing out retarded claims like that, read the facts. btw. "they say" and "some people say" is typical american propaganda jargon. WHO says so? some weird youtube kiddies?
Shut the fuck up. Where the fuck are you from? Your tendency to label shows your ignorance. There's the same ratio of dumb to smart across the map. Don't act liike Americans are the only ones that have propaganda.
Here, for all you paranoid people, here's a live feed of the facility, so you can watch in. I watched for about 3 minutes. Nothing is happening right now, but it might be worth checking out whenever they're doing an experiment.
(Then again, I don't know if you'd see anything more than a couple of jumpy scientists lol)...

Jetrall, that was epic. I even thought it was real for the first few seconds and grew concerned when the lights flashed. Finally, I was like shit, he got me.

It's the decisions you make when you have no time to make them that define who you are.
These are all great questions and i love these sort of things but i belive it is time to come up with the most hardest question that scientists will probably never figure out. What happens inside of the blackhole? Do we just like explode or is there somethin on the other side or???

Well, since no one has ever been inside one, or even near one, for that matter, no one knows. No amount of science can prove something that's never been observed, which is the whole concept of science. They can make educated guesses, come up with educated equations and graphs, but until one is observed, directly or indirectly, no one will ever know. Not to mention it would be nearly impossible to observe a natural one close enough, since any form of radio wave, matter, or even light, itself, would get absorbed in to it, much less go through one.
