i say items...like someone said u lose ur money once u die, but money is usefull also because you can find some nice items by gambling...its just a low percentage that your ganna find a nice items, but it's just like MFin
I wouldn't mind it based off of currency. But either way you are farming for whatever item(s) are considered the main currency. It all depends on how the community starts out, if they start out trading gold then gold will be the standard, if they start trading items then that will most likely stay the norm. I just hope that it's loot table will have many similarities with diablo II. Especially the ethereal items, those were fun.
I would prefer gold to be the main trading currency. I just think it's much easier and more fair to everyone when items have a real, set (or at least a good estimate) price tag. In D2 if you were new to the game and found a really nice item it was really easy to get totally ripped off because you didn't know the worth of every single item, which is what you really needed to know in order to trade fairly.
It's just much easier to simply ask around in chat "what is X worth?" and get estimates of gold instead of being compared to other items that you don't know their worth.
I think that you should be able to build a reputable character off bought items only, but then have anything epic be found only, and upgraded with gold, giving gold some use, while not making gold farming an issue... And of course have stuff that can't be dropped, only bought... And have it be useful...
Id prefer currency as it would be easier to have a price guide, however I can Indian trade as well.
Indian trade? Lol racist jk XD Seriously though, gold and item for item trade is fine with me. Isn't "Indian Trading" trading getting ripped off by trading your stuff for a bunch of shiny beads and shit that's more than common? lol XD
I was thinking a currency that you can use, like, use as something to upgrade such things as weapons and armors.
This was already used in D2, long before xpac there was a time when 4-5 Pskulls = 1 soj
Soj was still a reference, but skulls where also valuable.
I do want D3 currency to be item based, but D2 soj market(which comes waay back to patch 1.02) was made by dupes. I doubt blizz want another D2 market(dupes), so the game currency will probably be gold.
ps: I just hope they dont make stupid ''bind when picked up/used'' gear.
Get real, folks, the diablo you all knew is dead, a few years ago i said right here in this forum that D3 had a pretty good chance of being blizzard first bust (i was flamed to death ofc), and what you know, its not even beta and its already looking that way.
I voted Items. Being a long time D2 player, and an experienced MMO'er... i definetly enjoy item trading better. This is because you both get something you want/need.
ALSO, item trading brings in more knowledge of the game. You need to know the game to get good deals.
All the WoW players are going to say Gold.
All the Old-Diablo Players are gonna say items.
Let's the battle begins.
By the way, I REALLY HOPE, REALLY HOPE that they DON'T add an auction house.
There are only 2 reasons gold is the currency in Wow is because:
1. Most items are bound to you when you pick them up so trading items is out
2. Some spells require an item to cast them, ones that you cast on 5 people at a time.
WoW is different because the mechanics of the game are meant for you to play extremely long hours to accomplish anything worthwhile. The entire game is a set of grinds. The only fun part is having a good guild and doing cooperative play in PvP or PvE.
DII had gold literally worthless and with no bound items, anything could be traded, meaning an infinite amount of items could potentially enter the economy with none of them being spit out (but they were due to players leaving, items rotting on expired chars, etc...) and I think it could likely be a problem if DIII gains mass popularity and then you have people flooding the markets with tons of items that have no way to be flushed out.
Gold should have value, but at the same time I think there is an allure to the bartering system of D2 where items were the currency. It was fun, even for a noob like me who would trade crappy items I got for free off somebody for more crappy items, eventually making my first IK set off nothing but grabbing free items and slowly trading and bartering. I was so happy back then
The problem with item economy is that whenever some items like gems become less needed by the community (after start maybe?) you have to figure another currency item since no one or very few will be trading the old one for anything. With currency the amounth needed to trade item just changes. First you have to pay 1000 for 1 gem (for example a gem) then when gems start to become more common and people don't need them as much anymore the value just changes to 100 for 1.
Also you can't trade 100 bad items for 1 good. But you can trade loads of ingame currency for a good item.
There just have to be a good way to use that money.
You don't want a set "currency" in Diablo. Half the fun is trading up, and yes, even being screwed on trades. I remember when I traded up for my first IK maul when the ladder first started. You couldn't find a prouder druid on the realms.
Gold as a currency also leads directly into botting.
Two reasons:
1) Gold is much easier to find that magic items, so bots can be more successful killing easy mobs in areas that are easy to exploit.
2.) Though you can create some sophisticated bots to MF, people usually don't take the fullest advantage - why not? Because MFing bosses is simply more fun, so even though there is a tool available, people don't use it. Moreover, bosses require specialized strategies and harder areas that average programmers who create bots can't handle. Anyone remember the notorious firewall sorc? It was incredilby easy to farm the Frigid Highlands by taking advantage of bad pathfinding, but you still had a team to run Baal. A good thing.
Also, a barter economy fits much more with the atmosphere of the game. Sanctuary doesn't have a banking economy or any fancy-schmantzy places like that. This people are working to just LIVE from the onslaught of demons. An auction house should be out of the question, because it implies a life outside of battling the great evil that bedevils Sanctuary.
I think the harder mobs with special abilities will make botting harder("hard to program unpredictable random abilities that the mobs have). And first of all blizzard should be able to prevent bots before they even get into games.
I think creating 1000's of games to kill 1 boss is a stupid way to get items. It seems like there will be more minibosses in areas that drop some nice things. So you will probably start to do runs that kill all of them. And while doing this you have to kill other mobs too that will also drop items also giving you nice amounth of exp.
Bosses seem to have insane abilities which will make botting them really hard or impossible. Also I believe the playign of the game will be more complex than before. You will have to use more skills rather than just 1 spell that kills all. This will make botting harder.

Fuck you, I'm a dragon.

Imo, item for item is just much more efficient.
