Yeah on what goodguy replied, mobile graphics cards are built on different architecture(perse'), you might see a slim drop on high end 8 series desktop cards within the next couple of months, and I'm sure that GX2 price will drop a little bit bit come summer time, the 9 series GTX cards aren't too far around the corner.
I'm purchasing one of those GX2's mainly for the hdmi/audio support to hook-up to my new 37in lcd tv. Should be fun, to think I was about to get 2x 8800gts G92's .
Are you implying two 8800GT's will be slow? If you are, you're retarded.
You can get two of them for less than $400 and they are actually faster than an 8900GX2. You do the math and figure out which is a better deal.
With 3-way SLI, its more economical to get three 8800GT's than it is to get an 8900GX2.
The prices on the 8900GX2 will not drop until Nvidia releases a faster card.
And to the comment about the mobile and desktop GPU's using a different architecture... they don't. They use almost the exact same chips. What changes is the amount of memory available. The reason the desktop GPU price changes and released don't affect mobile releases is because they are two completely seperate markets. No one looking to buy a 8900GX2 is going to consider buying a laptop. It doesn't make sense to if they want top of the line performance, which is clearly what they want.
And your ignorance of how videocards works is pretty apparent. Those are all theoretical limits that will never ever be achieved. Go look up some actual benchmarks and not the theoretical numbers and you won't be so bold.
Yes, I know it's a "9800GX2" but I call it an 8900GX2 because that's where it fits in in the performance line. I don't believe Nvidia should have moved into the 9xxx series without a new architecture.

Hmm, you're right. I'm glad I didn't call you retarded in my post. 9800GX2 did not perform bettern in any game and only matched the 8800GT SLI in Crysis.

Agreed, but calling it a 8900GX2 won't do anything.
Goodguy, the only 3 way SLI cards available at the moment are the 8 series gtx and ultra I'm not too sure as if the 9800gx2 is tri-sli compatible becuase running two of those is considered "Quad-SLi", I'm getting one of those because as far as pricing goes, it's only a little bit more than 2x 8800gts g92's, for more performance, and less taken up space in the setup I'm going for, and at that it all depends on when my current pc sells, I might even just grab a 9800GTX, also consider the 9800Gx2... is a dual core GPU.
Cards that are tri-sli compatible have 2x sli slots on the side instead of the 1 you see on most cards, unless they have specific driver / bios / software updates to configure things otherwise, but I haven't heard anything about that for trisli yet.
I'm not goin to go into detail but I don't think arguing with a kid is going to do you much justice goodguy, take it easy man.
It's so amusing that when ever there's a new video card or some computer tech bullshit to rant on about in meaningless discussions the canuck kiddies around here fly outa the wood work an post their pipe dreams, and sit here an post things they know nothing about. Like a couple posts above by alphax with those numbers, do you even know what the selling point specs are for video cards?.. There are other details that go into deciding what kind of card to pick up.

It's the decisions you make when you have no time to make them that define who you are.
$600 holy shit!
That thing is huge, but is extremely fast.
Pci1/Pci2 - Thats a cool feature
Do you think this will make GPU's on Laptops go cheaper?
makes all the games in d2 im in to lag like shit
That is mainly your internet speed, although your comp will slow down your D2, but only for you.
maybe
:D:D:D:D:D:D:D
No. Not at all.

Two 8800GT's will actually be your best bang for the buck.

9800GX2 vs. 8800gt (2)
Texture Fill Rate of one 9800GX2 = 76.8 billion.
Texture Fill Rate of two 8800GT's = 67.2 billion.
Memory Bandwidth of one 9800GX2 = 128GB/s.
Memory Bandwidth of two 8800GT's = 115.2GB/s.
Memory Size of one 9800GX2 = 1GB.
Memory Size of two 8800GT's = 1GB.
You can easily take a look and see that the numbers are in favor of the 9800GX2.

Why the hell does the 8800GTS beat the Ultra in two games?

Don't go off topic or anything.
