The release for the MMO was expected to be in 2009. The game itself seems pretty cool if they do what the website suggests. Everyone has a small ship, but to operate a large one requires that you have a minimum amount of people on the bridge and in engineering.
I look forward to this game making it.
I thought th Star Trek Online had suffered a serious setback recently. I think some publishers were kind of shuffling the project around. Even now the website just has a coming soon thing on it, with no news or anything on it anymore. I'm kind of worried actually that the game may not come out for a long time.

DOH! That's why I said "was" scheduled lol. I haven't read up on it lately. I read some of the previous posts and I guess there was some form of licensing issue.

I thought that they postponed it definately. that is what I saw, because my brother was pissed of it. All the men in our family love Star Trek.:D I got hooked to it when I was a kid. How did you guys start to like it?

I'm not even sure exactly. When I was in about 7th grade, I gradually started watching the movies and series. Somehow I just knew it was for me. It was kind of a comforting show and I was always kind of a nervous adolescent. So while I was going through junior high, there were still new episodes of Next Generation every week. By the time I was in 8th grade, I had all the movies up to that point and a bunch of Star Trek shirts and action figures. The action figure phase didn't last long though.
But ever since then, the show continuously endeared itself to me. I love its morals, its characters, even the music. These days, the teaching of Star Trek are very dear to my heart, yet many people have no idea what a huge fan of it I am. But I do have the telltale sign of my Star Trek loyalty in the form of a bumper sticker on my car which I'll have to get a picture of sometime.
Having been born when it was still in first-run, I grew up with Star Trek, as my parents were fans.
I'm a fan of all the series, and films (even the dreaded Star Trek V).
Regarding Nemesis, I thought Paramount totally fucked up by releasing it a week after LotR: RotK hit the screen. I think that killed any chance Nemesis had at making decent box office numbers.
Looking forward to the new film. Simon Pegg as Scotty is gonna rule!

Star Trek V was basically William Shatner's glorification of William Shatner for the sake of William Shatner. Besides that though, I still think it's kind of a fun movie, albeit poorly written and directed.

Yeah, but even then the movie could have been a lot better. You kind of get the sense in that movie that hardly anyone in it really care about Star Trek anymore. It lacked any emotional depth that First Contact had. And the whole them of whether people have evil inside of them or they are taught evil was very contrived I thought.
someone explain to me how star trek is sooo interesting ._.
im serious...but im not like bashing it or anything i just really wanna know...
Things that I relate to I find interesting. It's not just interesting to me either, but entertaining. Even when Star Trek is cheesy it is entertaining for me. There is also this nice camaraderie between Star Trek fans as they discuss their favorite series, who was the best captain, which Enterprise is their favorite, who is the best race.
Discussing races is particularly fun. You have the Klingons with their blinding sense of honor, the Vulcans with their incessant ideologies and hypocrisies, the Romulans with their Romanesque empire and their wild emotions that makes them so volatile and dangerous. You have the Ferengei that are the ultimate capitalists and base their entire society on the tenets of business and profit. You have the Bajorans who are nearly zealous in their religiosity but in a peaceful way, and many more aliens with interesting quirks and idiosynchrosies. And with all of these things, there is this endless amount of social and political commentary that makes Star Trek so great.
I also love the space battles. I'm more interested in large ships that are under command by one person and a crew as opposed to one man fighters in space. The scale is really enjoyable for me. Star Trek: First Contact has one of the best battle scenes I've ever scene. Deep Space Nine also has some incredible battle scenes.

My favorite battle scene in all of the star trek movie comes from Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country. That's the one with the Klingon Bird of Prey with the ability to fire cloaked. The final battle in that one might not have been as highly graphic as it could have been etc. but at its point in the movie it was extremely intense.

Yeah it's a pretty well directed scene. The only thing I didn't like about it was General Chang's constant quoting of Shakespeare during it. But then as if Bones was reading my mind, he suddenly is like, "I'd give real money if he'd shut up." God bless Bones.
I think my favorite battle scene was in First Contact, when the Borg Cube decimated the Fleet.
"Perhaps today is a good day to die!"
"Prepare for RAMMING SPEED!"
Hehehe, I love quoting that. Especially while driving my car.
My favorite movie was The Wrath of Khan. I just loved how strategic the whole battle between those two ships was, and how Kirk was finally able to outwit his opponent. There was a good rivalry between those two I think.
My favorite captain has to be Captain Benjamin Sisko from Deep Space Nine. Mostly because I just like his style of command.

And when all the ships vector in to fire on that some spot on the Borg cube, this is actually my favorite special effects scene in any movie I've seen. It's very tasteful and well crafted. And you can really sense the scale of the ships as those torpedoes are pounding on the cube. It's so glorious.

Couple things I really like about this battle scene. The first person view of the Defiant for one, and those clustered smaller ships are really interesting. It's also really cool the way the Cardassians suddenly turn on the Dominion toward the end of the battle.

I have to agree. One of the best ever made. Captain Sisko for favorite captain? He was good, but I thought Picard was better.

The arrival of Enterprise, as she soared into the fray shielding Defiant was a masterful shot. Awesome scale perspective, there, as well.
