I saw the trailer for this when I went to see Transformers a little over 6 months ago. The movie comes out in 3 weeks and there is still very little known about it. I've heard all sorts of rumors and theories ranging from a new Godzilla movie to a movie adaption of H.P. Lovecraft's cthulhu and even the possibility it's the monster from lost. It's somewhat following the viral marketing The Blair Witch Project had, though I hope it's much better then that piece of garbage.
so I was wondering what everyones thoughts are about this movie.
During Transformers in the previews, me and my bro and his friends saw the trailer. They didn't say the name of the movie at the time though. There was less to it then another trailer they put out.
My bros friends did guess Godzilla. Anyways, what's Cloverfield about again?

It looks like a good movie, i will definitely go see it. they made the trailers very mysterious, so there is no telling what it could be. why not make accusations about it, so that way we wont be disappointed when it comes out?

All that's clear about it is that it's a "monster attacks city" movie, but told from a totally new perspective. It's the story from an average joe's point of view, as it's just a bunch of people filming it with their video camera as they try to survive through the situation.
Yeah, I've seen commercials for this movie and they've really grabbed my attention but I have no idea what it's about. It's one of the few upcoming movies that looks like it could be good. Definitely beats "One Missed Call" -.-

All monster movies like this have an "average joe" as the main protagonist. Remember the 2000 Godzilla movie? Matthew Broderick(sp?) was a biologist who specialized with EARTH WORMS but people decided to hunt him down and put him in a place to study giant foot prints.. King Kong? Actress down on her luck? Suddenly now has the ability to calm and enormous gorilla? All movies like this are about small insignificant people taking out something that armies for some reason can't destroy. The movie looks good, but it's no different.
From the teaser we can see a group of friends throwing a going away party for a friend who is leaving for japan ( I think this is why alot of people think it's going to be a godzilla movie) when in the middle of the party the power goes out and you hear a groundshaking roar. I think not showing the monster is genusis and a good way to ensure ticket sales.

Bull. Broderick's character in Godzilla is nothing like an average joe. He's a mockup of stereotypes that is then put into a situation in which he forced to become something he's not. He's put into a situation where he's actually able to do something about the problem.
This movie is about people who have no control over what is going on - let alone any idea of what is happening. These are people who are not allied with the military to put an end to this creature. They just want to get the fuck out of the city - like any normal person would.
Also, Colverfield's story also contains a contagious virus with no cure but that's about all I know on that.
Ah... Haven't heard about that one. Sure you're not thinking of I Am Legend now?

J.J. Abrams conceived of a new monster after he and his son visited a toy store in Japan. He explained, "We saw all these Godzilla toys, and I thought, we need our own monster, and not King Kong, King Kong's adorable. I wanted something that was just insane and intense."
They have that clip about the chick being killed on youtube I believe but you dont' see much. From what I've drawn together after watching clips and what not. This beast, can create smaller forms.. that can infect humans.. and turn them into wierd creatures that attack other people and what not.
J.J. Abrams I think is gonna be the next Jerry Bruckheimer, but not shitty. He produced Lost which is one of my favorite tv shows. And I'm happy that he's making the next Star Trek movie.
I watched the previews. But I am not going to go see it. If I was a movie director and I wanted to generate lots of sales, there is no better way then to make a monster/horror/action movie where you do not see who causes all the destruction. I am sure the monster looks something like this...

I like the Cthulu idea. That'd be really cool.
