I like animes of a more dramatic nature. Some of my favorite shows and series are Haibane Renmei, Princess Mononoke, Spirited Away, Howl's Moving Castle.
Then other ones include Hellsing (thanks to Elfen), Bobobobo, DBZ (but only seasons 1-3), Crest of the Stars and Banner of the Stars.
You really gotta give credit to that series. I loved how the premise for each season was quite different. The first one showing how the war starts, with a lot of character development in between. The second season being in the thick of the war (that's almost all it's entirely about), then the third is really interesting how it's all about a diplomatic mission gone awry. I highly recommend this series to anyone. Lord Mantis showed it to me a couple years ago and it's become one of my favorites and I'm not typically into anime.
From another thread (before I joined) regarding Elfen Lied:

Could anyone make the argument for me that they make a good attempt at contextualizing its graphic violence and gore?
The violence in Elfen Lied is there for a reason. Unlike many shows there is significance in everything that happens as far as the blood-spilling is related. In some instances it makes you feel strange that something like that could happen, at others it brings out feelings of intense sympathy. You'd have to see it of course to understand fully.
As far as shows like this go, I do believe Haibane Renmei did a much better job in presenting an almost similar message. And that without a single scene of action or violence. I almost hesitate to compare the two, but that was my impression when I watched Elfen Lied. At any rate it's an excellent show, and does deserve a watch.
There was one scene that repulsed me intensely though... I won't watch that scene again for that reason.
My favourite animations are Mirmo, Dragon ballZ ,Shinchan , perman , doraemon etc all kids choices.

I think the best anime series I have ever seen would have to be Samurai Champloo; it had a great story, awesome soundtrack, and the main characters were unforgettable. I also loved DBZ, Samurai X, and Witch Hunter Robin. Anyone seen WHR?

i love DBZ, the first sagas are classic but i like best the majin saga. my other favs are Full Metal Alchemist, Hellsing, Elfen Lied, and Love Hina despite the criticism ill get for it. all but Hellsing and Elfen Lied i watched with all my cousins, about 10 of us, so we all liked DBZ, FMA, and LH.
I saw the newer fancy computer generated looking one. I liked it okay. The first half is way better than the second. I've no idea why that's often the case with so many movies.
