wow. just simply wow. i didnt expect it to be nearly as good as it was. after all, you see trailers, and they look good. however of constant disappointments you start thinking that every movie is overhyped.
it was way better than i expected, but the sex scenes disqualifies children to see it. however the battles are awesome, the very fact that three hundred spartans killed so many persians is great, the message this movie sends is awesome, and the entire way the story was told is unmatched.
you tempt me to actually go and watch this movie. But the fact i know so much about what really happened there will prolly make me upset when i see things changed to make things more spectacular. But without seeing i cant be sure anyway so i might just do.
The name reminds me of Gideon and his 300 troops in the Book of Judge(s). They took down the Midian army by putting a clay pot on a torch, and grabbing a horn. They broke the pot and blew the horn, and all the enemy troops came storming out and killed each other in confusion. Gideon never lifted a finger.

i think that focusing on the killing is wrong, as far as viewing it as bad. for after all, freedom isnt free, everything has its price. but the movie reflects alot about the honor one must have, and the comraderie. there is a clear view in this movie to what men these days can learn from. here are some things that i caught:
honor, you must stand for something even if it ends your life.
valor, you aspire to be great, and in doing so you protect those you love
love, you have things that you love and you must defend them. family and those fighting beside you are only some.
bravery, you know whats right and what you believe in, are you willing to face death and stand your ground?
all these are things we must all pursue, because happiness and freedom are definately not free. there will always be evil, in relativity to the good or the norm of the world. and for this there must always be someone to defend that freedom. even if the enemy is suicidal, or too large, you must always stand for what you beleive, and beleive in what will keep you or at least those you love happy and safe.
this movie has many pluses and very few minuses. 300 and LOTR stand face to face, each having its sides, such as LOTR is universal, and 300 is more for adult audiences. i cant decide which is better, which means that you must all take yourselves away from here and go watch it. as far as historically, it is very accurate i think, for what i know about it. maybe those of you that learned deeply about it can tell us whether or not it was accurate.
i didnt get the chance to go see it yet... hopefully this weekend or actually i have off school thursday and friday in the mornings... might make it out then
the only major discrepancys i know of is in the movie they say they fight a million Persions... in reality it was only tens of thousands of Persions... like that makes a differance, 300 vrs 30,000 or 300 vrs 1,000,000

If you ever meet a hafling and a hungry dragon you dont have to outrun the dragon, you only have to outrun the hafling.
Has nothing to do with what really happened, lol... totally... I guess that's OK. 300 is an entertainment movie more than anything... LotR went along the same road, but those kind of movies are not for me, I prefer movies with sense...
"honor, valor, love" - aren't those things a bit cliche and aren't they automatically expressed in ANY good vs bad movie? You are looking for something that is not there. It's a fun movie, and that is where it ends.
So then what is the bible based on, if not events in late history?
u dont actually believe that whatever stated in the bible is based on historical events, right? proof of God as stated in the bible was never in history. the great cataclysm etc. There was never historical proof of that.
Let's make something clear. The bible is full of mistruth. Anyone who can say or honestly believes the bible is full of anything else is a complete and total idiot.
Also, 300 is not based on true events. It's based on a comic by the same name, which was inspired by a movie called 300 Spartans which was based on a true story. That's 3 degrees of historical inaccuracy. So those who will bitch and moan about it being fake can go die. Good movie. Nuff said.
The Bible agrees with history in many places. If you skip all the fantasy, it's pretty much all true according to archaelogists and historians. You'll have to give a direct example where it is wrong before telling me to shut up...
I was addressing that to Carloserus, who seemed to think the movie was historically accurate, and it definitely isn't, in comparison to the original battle of Thermopyles. No matter what was it based on and why, it is not accurate to the original event.
i still dont see why everyone seems to only remember the 300 spartans left behind... what about the other 1000 men who were left with the spartans to help the fight?
you guys are talking about the bible, and ill end it, because it has nothing to do with the topic thread. was there really a flood that drowned the world? i dont know, but it seems unlikely that it happened. but the bible does have battles that were proven by history and science, however they were like greek stories, they were exagerated.
idk, 300 remains in my top 5 for sure, and is in battle with LOTR. that means that its in competition with my top movie. thats alot to say since i have seen many movies, and do search for messages and a meaning in a movie. there are reasons for liking movies other than they were just cool. i like movies that leave you feeling good, feeling better like the rocky movies.

i'm whining about it since 3rd or 4th class in my greek school when we first read about it
But it was 700 Thespians for those who care about it (plus the 300 Spartans a grand total of 1000 that fought against the Persians).
Will see the movie when i have the chance to say how accurate or inaccurate it is. Some people i know (also greeks) said its pretty accurate but i wont trust anyone before i can say anything

What message? Killing people is great?
