when i started to become recignized amongst my freinds at a decent d2 player i was suprised that none of them knew who loki was..and i was just wondering if anyone here knew
Yes, he was a Norse God, or in truth a giant. But he became a blood-brother with Odin, and as such was accepted in Valhalla.
He was (in)famous for many things. He was the father of Fenris, the wolf that would break free during Ragnarok, Jormungand, the serpent whose body stretched around the Midgard, and who would crawl up on land when Ragnarok began.
He was also the father of Hel, the goddess that controlled Nifelheim, the land of the dead.
Balder was one of the Asar (if that is the english term) and nothing could kill him, because his mother had asked everything in the world not to harm her son. Except for one plant (can't remember what it was called). However, Loki made an arrowhead out of that plant, and convinced a blind mad to shoot it. And thus Balder died.
His mother was filled with grief, and she asked Hel if she could bring him back to life. She agreed, if every creature in the world cried for Balder. So she set out to ask everyone, and they all obliged, except for one female giant who refused. And that was Loki.

I'm from Sweden, and mythology was always a big interest of mine when I was younger.
I remember once, me and my friend were arguing in class whether Loki was a god or a giant. We both had valid arguments, so the teacher sent us to the town library to chech who was right. And as I wrote earlier, it turned out he was both

i think the term is asgard as in the home of the gods.
Loki is also the name of Matt Damon's character in Dogma.
according to the movie the Mask, Loki is supposedly the norse night god who caused some much mischief Odin banished him from Vahalla, and into the mask. (this is in correct as Vahalla is not the home of the gods, Asgard is Vahalla is the hall of fallen warriors)

Yeah, you got me on that one.
Asgard, in the top of the tree Ygdrassil, home of the gods
Midgard, at the foot of Yggdrassil, home of the humans
Utgard, outside the ocean surrounding Yggdrassil, home of the giants (some of them)
Valhalla is situated within Asgard

maybe I missunderstood you svenskefaen (anyone knows what that means. Sorry Im just kidding;) ), but Loki is not god (æse), nor giant (jotne). He is a crossbreed and he is always the one to do funny pranks to other gods. Laufey, his mum, is not too much info about, but he is only half giant. However he IS a god, he just dont have the same genes as the oteher ones:)
Norse mythologi is so basic when your from norway:)

So, first you say that he is not a god, and then you say he is? What I meant was that yes, he is a crossbreed, something in between.

Not precisely. The Norse gods weren't as reproductive as the Greek gods. I've only seen this in one place, but it was from a very credible source, that Loki became a god through sharing Odin's blood. So he was a giant before then, but then became half-god, half-giant.

Since the thread is here anyway...
He was one of 2-3 comic book characters to know they're in a comic book. The ony other one I know of is Deadpool, but I think there might be another.
