What exactly do you mean by looking better and being more customizable? Last I checked, consoles were simply computers suited specifically for the purpose of video games. Not to rag on your preference of PC, but I must say, that's not a very good reason. Although, I can understand why you like PC.
well, i mean, that PCs you can customize what kind of pc, how much money to put in, what graphics card to put in....
so with that in mind, consoles are one thing.. all the same cpu / gpu... and you have to spend x amount of money. you cant change graphical settings, but pc, say you have a really good one with quad 8800gtx and quad core intel with 16 gb of 2-2-2-5 ddr3 memory, 2 500 gb hd 15,000 rpm, raid 0....- DREAM - you can put 16 AA, model detail to max, surroundings detail to max. and if you have lower grade pc, maybe just integrated graphics, you can set settings all the way to low, and change resolution. so it will play batter.
console...there has to be a given 'medium' where its not exactly the best it can look, but its better than the worst it can be..
plus pc monitors are better for games, because the greater the resolution, although you can argue that monitors are meant to be viewed closer, and tvs about 10 feet away.
Well, I've actually been playing Xbox 360 on a 36" HDTV and I must say that GRAW2 and Rainbow Six look beautiful. Not much makes blowing shit up and popping caps in asses more than 1080i. Well...except for 1080p. But that's another story.
And I do agree that PC is great because one has such an array of choices. I would love to work on it that way. But, one I don't have the money to invest at least once a year to keep up with the standard and two, it's just too much work when you can get a pre-assembled console for so much cheaper at such great quality.
But anyways, although I think that Blu-ray is picking up the slack in becoming a more popular format, I think I would prefer HD-DVD. And I think that it was simply overkill for Sony to do that. Since Toshiba had already basically made the HD-DVD, I believe, then they could have saved so much more money, and the PS3 would be doing so much better. And on top of that, thanks to goodguy's input, I also realize that Sony should have put some damned memory into that console. Because, whether or not PS3's new features are revolutionary or not, it all boils down into gaming. And Sony has picked one over the other, which was, in many ways, a big mistake.

Although I must admit that the Wii is rather good, I prefer my Xbox 360 to it. One, Nintendo still lacks that 3rd party support that I like. Two, the Wii is barely above, if at all, the power of the PS2. Three, the primary catchy thing about it is motion sensing.
I prefer my 360 to it, simply because they have more good games out. Especially shooter games. And plenty of them. They've got Gears of War, GRAW2, FEAR, Rainbow Six Vegas, Splinter Cell: Double Agent (which was sucky on the Wii), and more that I can't name because I haven't played them. The 360 is a good mid-range console. Period.
The wii is graphically superior to the GameCube which is superior to the PS2. It's just horribly taken advantage of. If you compare RE4 shots on all systems, it still looks best on GC.

Wow. I've overlooked that. That comes as a shock to me. There are a few comparison articles of the previous generation consoles. Wasn't the gamecube cheaper than the PS2 though?

The gamecube came out a year later and was never priced below the PS2 to the best of my knowledge.
i would say to anyone that is completely one sided on a console is dumb... all of the consoles have their up's and downs... price.. its Wii 360 and PS3 but graphics its the exact opposite and for games (the real reason for the console) i would say that its 360 Wii PS3... Halo 3 is gunna pwn but so is Super smash bros for Wii and PS3 has Final fantasy and a lot of other good games waiting to be released all the consoles are tied because they are all completely different in games graphics and price... if they were cheap enough everyone would buy all three of them....

All very true.
The real winner this round is the Wii. It's selling like crazy and generally has a warm reception. Beyond that, the Xbox360 is in 2nd because of the headstart, the games, and the price (I got mine for $330 brand new and I don't mean the core version). The PS3 is just not priced to compete and that's all there is to it.
based on todays folding @ home leader board, 1 ps3 is equal to 20.095173 personal computers. my math might be wrong though, [not the actualy dividing and multiplying]. but digg this -
31062 ps3s did 593 teraflops*
while
195785 pcs with windows did only 186 teraflops*.
*TFLOPS is the actual teraflops from the software cores, not the peak values from CPU/GPU/PS3 specs
As far as sales and money goes, the Wii is winning. By the end of the year, the Wii will have the largest install base. They would right now if they could make more faster.
While I like my Wii, I'd have to say the Xbox 360 is winning when it comes to core gamers. At the moment, they definitely have better games.
For the future though, I look for the PS3 to be coming out on top. It does have the highest capabilities. Blu-ray was an excellent feature, it allows for a lot bigger games. A couple years down the road, DVD9 (used by the 360) won't have enough space. That's already being seen by GTA4, as they're struggling to get it all on one disc.
As far as holiday lineups go, each console has a nice lineup. The Wii has Smash Bros., Mario Galaxy, and MP3: Corruption, and Batallion Wars 2. Xbox 360 has Halo 3, Bioshock, Mass Effect, and Two Worlds. The PS3 has Lair, Heavenly Sword, Warhawk, Ratchet and Clank, and Uncharted. There's also some big multi-platform games like Assassin's Creed and Call of Duty 4.
There's probably some games I missed, but the point is, no matter which console you have, the games look pretty good this holiday season.

Appreciate what you've got because, basically, I'm fantastic.

I don't believe this is possible. Each 8800 series card has a double slot cooler which allows a maximim of 2 videocards.
I assume you were just making things up because there aren't a lot of gaming systems with any of those specs. Actually there isn't a single one.

dual 8800gtx, 1KW psu, quad core intel cpu, 8 gb ddr2 memory - 4-4-4-12, 2 500gb scsi 15,000 rpm - raid 0, 2560 x 1600 resolution monitor 5ms response time, windows vista, ARMOR pc case.
i know theyre expensive, but a rig like that wood be effecient for ~10 years.
edit. foot in mouth
consoles can be efficient for longer. [i think?]
I think the average lifetime of a top of the line computer is 6-18 months for the kind of person who has that kind of system.
The people that buy the best always want to have the best.

It's called Resident Evil in the states but yes, that's what I'm talking about.
