You mean 'controversial'?
I don't think so. Today I told a lot of people on campus 'happy September 11th!'
My reasoning is that:
1. It's been 7 years, come on people
2. It's way over sensationalized by the media
3. It was an inside job used to sway public opinion of engaging in international war (and other reasons like making lots of money and being able to finally pass The Patriot Act)
4. I have a quite a dark sense of humor

I honestly thought that it was spelled with a t...
I agree for the most part, the only real thing that keeps someone from making jokes is time, look at the titanic, and even more recent, columbine. So who is to judge when tragedy is humor ready?
I tried telling people on this site a long time ago that 9/11 was an inside job but nobody believed me, even when I told them about WTC7, and how there was no wreckage at the pentagon. I think people have been hard-wired into thinking "terrorist" when 9/11 is mentioned, even though there is overwhelming evidence that proves otherwise.
That's the whole beauty of it, and why America can get away with it every freaking time they want to go to war. Even if there is an overwhelming array of evidence against them, the people of the country are so enveloped in a sense of pride and patriotism, that they will turn the other cheek.

Dark humor is the best, I agree.
