Guys, i've always wanted to show some folks that i don't know, so i get an unbiased opinion, i've never finished it, and i never will (it was destroyed)
but i plan on restarting sculpting next year, and would be a great challenge.
so here are the pics:
(i put one to show, and other PoV:P as a link, so the post doesn't get very heavy. the links under the pictures are different angles, some links come from my facebook album and others from orkut, so let me know if they don't work...)
Man, I wish I had a fraction of the talent that you have...
Not a talent, just a good teacher.
i was by the way, on the 2nd last class he teached to, after my class and other last one, he wen't to work at blizzard
(yeah not kidding...)
but he is very professional so we never knew what exactly he was going to do there (it really took some time to him to CONFIRM he was going to), i know it was mainly Digital Sculpture, real Sculpting (these being the focus of his role there) and also, some character concepting.
but no idea if he is working in D3, SCII, WOW or new mmo. he will never tell.
there are also some people who says he did freelancer work to blizz b4 as char concepting, but again, he never told anybody.
i also have a 1:1 GOVERNOR OF CALIFORNIA MR ARNOLD's head, or at least a tentative of doing him.
wow, dude, this is.. amazing. I am into sculpting a bit (a very little bit...), and i know how hard it is to make something that even remotely resembles a rock. But this is just astonishing 12 and a half thumbs up.
Your sculpture looks pretty good btw, I was gonna say what does your teacher think when you make demon sculptures but then I read he went to work at Blizz so I guess its cool
No, that's low poly modeling, he is a great Zbrush user, and he almost doesn't models anything in polygons. I can actually see more of his work beign used in cinematics than ingame things. unless blizzard starts doing games using normal mapping.
he is a big nerd and fan of sci-fi, terror, dinosaurs, demonology, mythology...
everything from games, to comics and movies he already did a small sculpture.
you know what is strange? he draws demons, sculpts them, everything, listening to nice musics like Man at Work - Overkill , Simply Red, The police... not fan of metal of anything like that, he sees the beauty on it (even when drawing the predator)

Thats great dude! i actually stopped coz i'm living in a small place, and don't have the space to do it. but i love sculping, i really miss doing it.
keep in mind that the most important thing, is to know how to translate the proportions and overall shape. The details are just work.
many guys jump to perfecting the detailing, and it looks good if you are not a critic. But any shaper eye will see the flaws and when he points them, everyboy will see them.
do not skip the basics, otherwise you will be only a half-baked artist.
also, remember(keep in mind that many don't agree with that i'm going to say, but my teacher said it, and i totally agree with him).
Even if you are doing something totally wired, you need some references, some pictures to look, nothing good comes out of nowhere. Really, doing his arms, i would look to some bodybuilders' muscles and adapt a bit. just for an example.
and of course, analyze other artist's work, Know Anatomy if you want to do characters... i have some books of anatomy for arts (like the FAMOUS Anatomy for an Artist - Sarah Simblet, but i have 4/5 different books of anatomy) i also have books of star wars arts, and some movie concept art books... having and using references is a great thing!
if you can improve by learning with the masters, then you are going somewhere!
to learn is not to copy, but sometimes copying is a learning tool.
(of course when you do your work, you don't copy others, but just for an example, look at some Protoss concepts, don't they resemble "the predator" some way ?
and some zergs... Giger's Aliens ?
maybe those were the inspiration, but they came up with something with a whole new feel to it)
if you destroyed those sculptures u are stupid... sorry for the word, but it's my sincere opinion
i don't agree, actually after my first sculpture, my teacher made everybody destroy it's own. The fun is at doing it, not looking at it for 2 years.
i wouldn't have time or space to finish it, so it happened.
I don't feel bad about starting it over sometime, i actualy see it as a chance to learn more, and improve the statue. Very common BTW, you get to a point when you don't like the way the sculpture turned out, and you can't see how to fix something that it's bodering you... you REDO IT ALL.
it's always better.
Cool stuff dude! Really great sculpture. And damn is sculpting hard! I've been messing around with sculpey a lot lately, it can be rough to get anything looking just right.

Please be sincere!
EDIT: btw, do i need to tell i wanted to do diablo?
just make sure you make it flammable next time you make it
interactive art > all
haha, that's really a good idea. and not that hard to do...
(i mean, i can make molds of it and do it in other materials to get the flammable effect.)
very expensive though
Is that clay? I used to work with clay.
Hi friend from uruguay!
(lol i'm brazillian)
no it is not clay, it's similar though. It's called plaster/plastilline something like that (not sure in english)
Not the same clay you use in Car Design and many artists like the guys at Stan Winston use.
It's natural Oil based, so it's allways soft, and when heated can get almost to liquid point, so it melts. Doesn't evaporates so never gets hard.
Clay / Sculpley and others are very expensive here.

just read at his blog, he works as Character Modeling in irvine.

anyway ... keep going for it.
Fuck you, I'm a dragon.
as far as i know, this one was made by other guys, Sideshow Collectibles only deals with that and may not have anything to do with blizzard.
just checked out the site on the product and was not made by him (other guys did, their name are there)
i have a guess we won't see ever his work inside blizzard unless blizzard put it up somewhere.
he usually only shows things that he made at his spare time or when he does something for siggraph or magazines that will get public.
