haha, elfen, I'm so getting married in one of them too. Also, the music will definitely not be the famous wedding tune, but rather it will be Funeral March by Chopin. It has a really nice slow marching pace to it that would suit a wedding perfectly.
Also, Ureh was said to be a heavenly city. maybe it would look like that? With the angel statues everywhere too. no, wait, actually, those angel statues are said to be only what mortals can imagine an angel to be. as magnificant as their statues are, they say that angels in real life are soooo much more beatuful/perfect than that. So if they did have statues, what would they look like? Considering the artists that Blizzard hires to create them are only mortals, It'd be very hard for them to come up with soemthing that is apparently absolutely perfect lol. I think thats also part of the reason why Heaven is always fairly marginalised in fiction. Its easier to let our imaginations fill in the gaps than to come up with something that turns out to be less-than-imaginative.

Yes, but how many times is it a gate on a cloud. That's so cheesy and disney-esque. You barely saw heaven in Dawn: Lucifer's Halo, but it wasn't some saturday morning children's show fat angel babies stuff. It had thick dense walls and a jerkwad attendant at the gate. Like that guy from Wizard of OZ "NOBODY SEES THE WIZARD! NOT NO HOW!"
I want something that is true to the series. No sugar coating, dark and gritty. Heaven is at war with Hell. it's hardly gonna be a beatiful fascade. Asgard had great big holes in it's walls from giant attacks, and other gods.

oh yeah, definitely no pearly gates. I hate those. Like what the hell, earth doesn't have gates lol. yeah ok, your right. In this case, i would definitely like to see Heaven (if we get there, we haven't even really seen Hell yet, just bits of it). I'd imagine some sort of sea of light, because thats what angels are made of. so instead of a crowd of people, it'd be a mass of light lol. probably something that would resemble a small sun. that would be cool. no?
that'd be good too, if the architecture wasn't quite perfect in some places, with holes and things, from attacks from hell.
you know, it'd also be cool if we saw that 'sea of light', but then a demon suddenly entered the middle of it and spread its darkness throughout. it would be immensly contrasted, almost like a black hole.
I absolutely loved the look of the big cathedral at the top of the village of Tristram in Diablo 1, it was pretty awe inspiring with its huge belfry, and red glowing lights, and the little graveyard with very gothic head stones, though most were standard granite ones.
To make the best of any gothic architecture they'd put in III, they'd definitely need a First Person view, or some way of really looking up in to the sky and such, because for me, the ceilings of cathedrals that seem to stretch to the heavens themselves are what give me a sense of awe. Think of that, being able to see the pinnacles of the Chaos Sanctuary or the original cathedral, or the Monastary
Well I hope they don't go fir the usually pearly white look from hollywood movies, I want something a little darker.
Trying to remember heaven in the "Kenny gets a PSP" episode of South Park.
OMG how epic was that battle? It was easily 10 times more epic than the battle at the end of Lord of The Rings.
Sorry if this is off topic, but I think the idea was to contrast the evil of the forces of Sauron with those of Gondor, and wasn't it described that way in the books, anyway? Or are you talking about the Black Gate episode?
Oh, wait, I just realized what I think you mean. Do you mean you don't want the cathedral to look all white and shiny like Minas Tirith? Because in that regard I completely agree (although I don't think I was disagreeing with anything in the first place. Agh, confused xD ); since the cathedral was corrupted in Diablo I, it definitely should havea very, very dark cast to it. And while I'm on it, I wish the cathedral in the Monastary in Diablo II had those red-glassed candle light that is so prevelent in most original Catholic cathedrals. I always found it eerily fascinating.
I don't know if my opinion is even respected here anymore but...
Act 1 was great. When I went to the Tamoe Highlands and saw this looming Cathedral (or whatever it was) I expected to see some great looking arts and designs. I didn't really notice anything, except some cool looking stained glass. Maybe the quality of PC's limited the amount of details that could be put in, but I think that HDR would look badass in a place like the Cathedral. With a small red tint, it would add beauty to the game.
That's something I like about the Diablo series, it's not very "taxing" on your computer, almost any computer can take it.

Heaven created the PSP and the game Heaven vs. Hell so they could find their " Keanu Reeves" to lead the armies of Heaven against the armies of Hell.
Kenny dies and goes to heaven, as he got to lvl 60 he is Heaven's "Keanu Reeves" (A japanese kid also got to lvl 60, but as according to that episode the Japanese don't have souls, he couldn't be their "Keanu Reeves"), Kenny through playing a special golden PSP, leads Heaven's forces against that of Hell, and at one point the Arch Angel Michael says " Oh My God, this battle is so epic! it's ten times more epic than that battle at the end of Lord of the Rings"
Do you mean you don't want the cathedral to look all white and shiny like Minas Tirith? Because in that regard I completely
We were talking about Heaven, and whether or not Blizzard would make it dark and possibly gothic, as opposed to the more stereotypical light and fuffy floating on a cloud with a nice big pearly or Golden Gate out front.

The City that I live near apparently has the last Gothic building to be built in the World. They built most of it ages ago, but for some reason didin't complete it. But now they are finishing it I didn't even know it existed. Its a church. I shall go visit it one day!
I think that it should be optional. The main story should continue to expand on sanctuary, but you should be able to explore ancient destroyed Churches as well, mabye as a large side quest. Mabye an eventual patch could even have a secret corrupted church full of cows:)
I would really just like to be indoors in close quarters, places with a lot of detail... In act 5 I never really felt into the whole Norsish sorta thing, I think that they would be better off going for smaller with more detail over-all.
One thing that Elfen said in his original post stuck with me. Well, one word. Claustrophobic. I remember that being the primary feeling I felt when playing Diablo I and that I never ever wanted to venture too far down because of that feeling even though it was just a game. And thats right, i never really had that feeling with diablo 2. Now im really excited as to what they will do with the layout of the Diablo 3 world. Will blizzard be able to successfully create such a 3d game and make it incredibly scary, like in diablo I? Or will it go the Diablo II route?

That would depend on which part of England you are referring to, there are some very gothic buildings in England. Just like those found in France and Italy, and even Germany.
Especially Germany, the gothic movement started there. As for the gothic feel in both games, well, obviously Diablo felt more gothic than Diablo 2. The entire first game was centered around an extremely small amount of content, therefore the overall feel could never have been anything else. Diablo 2 is based around "high fantasy," which does contain gothic stylings, but also features many other epic landscapes to ensure the sense of adventure. In fact, I would dare to say that Blizzard did an amazing job of ensuring the second game was stuffed with the musty, old, pin-drop feel of the first game, most notably in the act one.
The architecture is something I really pay attention to in all of the games I play, and yes Diablo has a quite impressive architectural potential. I hope that the team will reintroduce some of that nice architecture in Diablo 3.
Although when I look at the world map I fear that the majority of the places ( correct me if I'm wrong I haven't read the books) won't have a Gothic architecture. The variety won't hurt for sure, but I'm afraid the Gothic theme will get lost instead of being the dominant theme.
What i really wouldn't like is for them to introduce an elfish architecture/region...elfs remind me of Warcraft and i wouldn't like to see Warcraft and Diablo connected, that would just kill the Diablo atmosphere. Altough it might be possible to make some dark and less cartoony elfs than in warcraft, this still scares me.

*imagines 20-30 monsters slide-showing with perfect HDR lightning*
And what does HDR have to do with design of Diablo, or Diablo II (since HDR is not applicable in 2D)?
