First off, I would like to apologize if people feel like I am beating a dead horse, or just jumping on the "zomg I hate the WoW art" bandwagon. But I assure you, I am not.
I am here to praise the concept art that Blizzard has given us.. and I believe it fits into the Diablo universe VERY well.
Infact based on the concept art alone, I am convinced that Blizzard KNOWS the dark gothic style of Diablo.
My main gripe right now, is that I believe Blizzard has the correct art direction, but instead they are having trouble translating it IN GAME.
Still lots of color. Still highly stylized and matches the the Diablo world perfectly.
So what if I've seen only 1% of the environment? What the hell is your point?
Let me make this clear for you mindless blind fanboys:
- I like color
- I like Blizzard's art style
- I believe Blizzard DOES NOT want Diablo to look like the Warcraft universe. They have stated this before.
- There is a discrepency between the artwork, the "Diablo world style" art and the current build with the in-game graphics
- Blizzard will obviously polish it up and fix it later just like they do with all their games.
As the poster noted, Blizz has the right idea, just having trouble translating it into the game.
Honestly, I doubt any of the locations seen in the concept art were locations from the demo so why dont you calm yourselves down and wait till you see the finished product! Theres a little thing called contrast. Besides, the outdoors there looked darker than the deserts of act 2 on d2 so chill

-My Position on Black Metal: "So you know those annoying kids you see running around listening to crap radio rock bands wearing tripp jeans and shopping at hot topic? Well, Black Metal is just the next big thing... have fun with your trends, I'm gonna stay metal"

The most common counter-complaint regarding the art direction is that players should wait until they see the finished product to offer critique, but it's much easier to make revisions while you're still developing the game. In fact, Blizzard relies on this early feedback.
That being said, I agree with the title post. =D
