My biggest problem with RMAH is I spent 5 straight years on D2 without touching these sites once. I actually found it ridiculous people would buy it and would ask myself, what's the use of farming then now? Didn't play multiplayer for a long time after learning that.
I'm hoping it becomes frowned upon and not too common for d3 online with this RMAH, or I'll be pissed if everyone starts doing it.
Well, I also think buying items this way is stupid but it would happen either way. Lazy people will always do thigs the lazy way whether it is through an in game AH or 3rd party site. So, if it's going to happen, at least Blizzard is making it safe and doing it in a way that even the players who actually play the game have a way to make some real money out of it and maybe be lazy every now and then and buy an item or two with the money they earned selling their items.
Blizzard- catering to the lazy and inept since 2011
Congratz blizzard, you made real money an integral part to a video game. I liked it better when games were meant to be fun and away from the real world. Now the video game industry just keeps finding new ways to make things more "casual" and easier for people.
I do mostly agree with you, but I think you should look at it as a positive. I wish that 3rd party sites weren't an issure and people getting scammed didn't happen, but they are and people do and Blizzard is making an attempt to get rid of the shadey part. Less accounts getting hacked, less spam bots, less griefing.
It's not the games that are becoming more casual, but people are. It's just a side effect of the ever expanding technology of the internet, phones, computers, social networking. People like everything to be easy and everything is becoming apart of everything, therefore everything is easier. If Blizzard could make the game THEY wanted without having any concerns about 3rd party companies/websites or consumers, I am 100% sure the game would be way different. However, they don't get to decide what people want, and the majority want easy. Back when Diablo I and Diablo II came out video games were not as popular as they are now and they had a more "hard core" fan base, but that isn't the case nowadays.
I mean honestly, it's not Blizzards fault, it is the consumers fault. If they said screw it to the majority, they would not be where they are at today (Sucessful and Rich).
I have more to say on this but I don't really want to make it too long.
Hmmm... I think you're quite right honestly. More people are getting into video games and the industries making it easier to start playing for those reasons and others.
Although I don't agree with the attitude of those defending it. "It would happen anyway so why not let blizzard control the selling and make a profit." THAT to me is negative.
Meh, I'm not a fan so i'll probably do as I always did, stick to playing with friends or myself.
Now getting rid of skill points... could or could not work. The idea of having items and level effect it mostly is interesting, but I don't think I'll have an opinion on it until I play.
I'm actually really excited about the Auction House bit. I wish this had been done before. I played Diablo 2 for over 6 years and was #1 Melee Dueler on USEast for a bit (Without buying my items) but when it came time to retire, I couldn't get anything out of all that time I invested without worrying about a lawyer coming after me or something.
Same thing with WoW, I had a total over over 365 days /played. Yep, I spent over a year of my life sitting on my butt playing WoW.
And every time I quit or retired? Nothing comes back to me. Every time I quit I was in the top 1% of my server, probably top 10% of the world. I could've made a bunch (eh, $300 or so maybe each time? I had PvE and PvP gear and several well geared toons) of money out of all that time I invested but I couldn't.
I don't get why people are complaining. If you want to get the best perfect gear, obtain it through the game by whatever means you feel comfortable with. The real life currency Auction House isn't going to force you into paying your hard earned dollars for pixels that you want. You can still trade with friends or sell for in-game currency.
As things look right now, I'm afraid I'll have to agree with you - though I have faith in that Blizzard will not screw this up. Hopefully they will listen to the majority of the community, and change it soon, or they will most likely later from complaints.
The outrage expressed today makes the color palette dust-up look like a bingo parlor fist fight between two pensioners. I just can't believe they'd reverse their long-held anti-cash-for-power stance so suddenly and so late in the development cycle like this.
Now getting rid of skill points... could or could not work. The idea of having items and level effect it mostly is interesting, but I don't think I'll have an opinion on it until I play.
I also don't have much of an opinion other than I think that deciding on a skill should have more weight to it than "Oh well, I can just switch it out if it sucks". I guess in d2 though i found one build I liked and never messed with it after that, so I doubt I will even notice all that much once I find the right build.
I kind of liked having to level up a new char though just to test a new build. Even after all the years D2 has been out.

I'm wondering if they're just going to introduce an ability for the game to play itself while you watch and eat popcorn. That's the direction this BS is headed with autoskills and loot for cash.
They got the reasons for D2JSP's existence completely wrong. It didn't exist because they was an overwhelming demand for items for cash - it existed because there was literally no other system that allowed players to commodotize their time spent in the game and then trade it to another player (i.e. trading cash or items in a secure fashion across the entirety of the playing base). D2JSP existed because, as we all know capitalism and the free market will find a way.
If you provide players with the ability to trade gold and loot in-game with each other and take steps to ensure the in-game currency has value, you destroy the reason for D2JSPs existence, and the amount of folks that actually spend real cash for items is so small, you don't need to worry about it. If anything, adding a cheater AH DEVALUES in-game currency since nobody's going to use that.
Good news is, I guess, that maybe these whiners actually will boycott D3, so we won't have to play with them when release comes :)I've read some of the many new threads and several times wanted to reply and clarify things, but they all complain about the same and 95% of it is because they don't or won't understand the change.
I have been coming to this site to get my dose of Diablo 3 info and figured I would signup and be apart of the community here on diablofans.com.
My mind is completely blown away with all this new info. I'm pretty excited with all new the changes and features especially the Auction House. Can't wait for D3 to finally come out.
People are getting way too carried away with the whole RMT Auction House thing, and I think the reason why is that they’re misinformed or ignorant about certain key points.
1) The critical point that you have to realize is: RMT would have occurred anyways! There are hundreds of $ for gold sites for WoW, there were hundreds of $ for item sites for D2, and there would have been hundreds for D3… had it not been for Blizzard stepping in with their RMT AH. All that’s changing now is that RMT will be handled officially and provide players with a legit way to sell their hard work. This will also most likely cause the death of every gold site out there for D3 (still won’t stop the farmers, but at least it’ll put an end to the middle-men).
2) “But D3 was supposed to be about EARNING loot!”. It still is, NOTHING is different than before. All you have to do is not pull out your wallet, and play like you’ve always had. It’s actually the same exact decision process that had always been present since when you played WoW or D2. Only the players who are willing to spend money on games in the first place will buy gear from the RMT AH, but these are the same folks who had bought WoW gold or D2 HR’s/SOJ’s and would have bought gold for D3 anyways, regardless of who’s offering the service. It might as well be Blizzard since they’ll do a better job mediating and making sure no one gets ripped off. Plus, the market for buying/selling your items will be huge (even bigger than when ebay allowed virtual items to be sold on its marketplace), guaranteeing a good market for you to sell quickly.
3) “I’m going to sell my items for cash, whoo! But, I ONLY want to buy items with gold. There’s no way I’d PAY for an item” This statement doesn’t really make much sense. The fact that the RMT AH will be established means that gold and cash will have a direct observable correlation with each other. One is the other as much as the other is it.
Imagine that the hypothetical exchange rate for cash to gold in D3 is $1 = 100g at the time. Let’s say you had 100g to start with, sold an item for $5, then bought an item for 100g. You now have your new item, $5, and 0g.
Now let’s say you had the same to start with as the above situation, sold an item for $5, then bought an item for $1. You now have your new item, $4, and 100g. Different results than before? Just sell your 100g for $1. Same end results.
Gold and $ will be essentially the same for the purposes of buying items. Having some weird ethical stance against buying with RMT, but not when it comes to selling with RMT doesn’t make any sense. If you’re still against RMT at least don’t be a hypocrite and use the system to sell your items, just don’t use it at all.
4) I think a lot of what people are getting confused with is what the RMT AH is, and what it isn’t. To clarify, it’s not a Blizzard store by any means – it’s simply a tool for us, the players, to use. Blizzard is NOT selling uber high-end gear through the RMT AH, nor ANY items for that matter. It’s strictly a marketplace, one that would have existed anyways, just in another form and off of the battle.net interface.
Seriously there's a lot of whine from people who don't look for the reason and details of the changes, but just complain that "something happened".
Good news is, I guess, that maybe these whiners actually will boycott D3, so we won't have to play with them when release comes
I've read some of the many new threads and several times wanted to reply and clarify things, but they all complain about the same and 95% of it is because they don't or won't understand the change.
Yes, and there are people like you who embrace change like a sheep being told to. Please. Change isn't good just because its change.
Yes, and there are people like you who embrace change like a sheep being told to. Please. Change isn't good just because its change.
Come on don't be silly. By that mindset you'd "be a sheep" for playing Diablo 3. Nobody is forcing you to play with us. I guarantee that people aren't going to enjoy playing with you if you're going to be whining the whole time.
Bottom Line
Keep playing Diablo 2 if you don't like what they're developing for Diablo 3. Stop whining.
Good news is, I guess, that maybe these whiners actually will boycott D3, so we won't have to play with them when release comes
I wouldn't count on that, everyone in this thread, whining or not, will buy the game no matter what they say.
I think that many people think, but fail to understand and/or express is that a supported item selling probably will make it easier, safer and more attractive for people to use the RMT system, so more people will use it. I really don't think that is big deal even.
What is bugging me out right now is the completely free possibility of respecing due to the lack of skill points. Did I understand it correctly? The only reason that could make me do a new character from the same class is to play along with a group of lesser-leveled friends?
AH definitely pushes some buttons that will make some people angry, but its better to be included and regulated than the alternative. If they can do something -anything- to prevent farmbots, i think the AH will be an excellent addition to the game. Gold sounds like it is going to have a high enough value in game anyway, so buying a few items here and there with cash will have limited influence. Yeah some items will be bought/sold, but crafting/runes are going to need gold to get your hands on them.
So psyched for the game to come out!!!
p.s. PLEASE prevent farmbots.

Does anybody really know what time it is?

Well, I can imagine that the Gold for Real money exchange could be manipulated. I could make ten characters, and just farm gold for weeks, and then through the exchange get some cash. They said with a third party you can extract that cash right into your bank account. SO where does the cash come from? Is Blizzard going to pay me for gold? Or will the gold-money exchange be facilitated by the other players as well: Person B wants 500gold, I give them 2 bucks? I don't want to look at a game as a way to make money. If I wanted to farm for real money, I'd go be a hooker.
Well these Q&As covered the hell (see what I did there) out of PvP. I am surprised Jay didn't cut you off and one point and say, "Guys, this game is about a story, not PvP." Any PvP fans on this forum owe you a sincere debt of gratitude for doggedly pursuing that topic in 50% or more of questions.
There's an auction house?!!?What?!?!?!? DIABLO3=WOW
J.k. Everything will be fine I promise. Good job Sixen and team. I'm so proud! *tear*

Awesome stuff Sixen and the team this is great stuff alot to read and I don't mind the RWT auction house because a game i'll play for a while while allow me to get some money for my time played doesn't sound bad at all.
I just don't want money to take over the gold auction house and no one sells anything good on there, that would be horrible for people who don't have alot of money.
There are free listings that will allow you to sell items even if you haven't paid a dime. Then you can take your auction proceedings as e-balance that will be attached to your Blizzard account. Then you can just use your e-balance as you'd use any in-game currency.
And e-balance can be used to pay for Diablo 3 expansion packs, other Blizzard games and merchandise, but not cashed out.
Thing concerns me is... when they are selling stuff in "gold section" People will just keep thier eye on it to buy it with "fake money" and sell it on "real money". This is another way for people to make money.... This concerns me allot!
