To all the whiners: it's understandable to be disappointed, but if you're looking in the long term it's the correct decision hands down. Given Blizzard's track record, anything below 90%+ in Metacritic score would be considered a failure. If Diablo III were released with severe glitches or incomplete and unpolished content, and received the first 75% or 80% in Blizzard's modern history, it'd cause far more damage to their brand then delaying the game 3 months, which no one on earth will even remember after the game does come out.
This may be a blessing in disguise. My wallet is already going to take quite the beating in November. I'll have lots too keep me busy until it is released.
Anyone who honestly expected the game to be released this year either never followed a Blizzard release before or is plagued by over exuberant optimism.
It's disappointing, but it will be a better game for it. Hopefully, this means they will be adding a lot more beta testers than they originally planned and almost everyone will get in.

Such an absurd statement to make. Have YOU ever followed a Blizzard release before? Before today, they've pushed back ONE title in recent memory...WoW:BC.
Anyone who claims they aren't surprised by Blizzard missing 2011 is lying.
You actually caused me to create an account just so I could reply.
If anything Blizzard loves all of their projects and doesn't show them to the world until they are ready. Stop being such a spoiled baby and learn to wait for your toys. What if Blizzard just said to hell with you and took all their games and went home? Now go back to your playpen.
In my experience Blizzard has always had very long development cycles. As I was hopeful like everyone else for a 2011 release, this is not big news. I'm glad they are taking time to polish the product and actually release a COMPLETE GAME. More and more recently companies have been getting away with releasing unfinished games and completing them through patches or DLCs. The worst thing is people are becoming complacent about it, accepting it as the norm. That's more unacceptable than delaying the game, imo.
Oh man, they were really shooting for 2011 before! 2012 wasn't a surprise for me but I wasn't sure they were serious about their 2011 before. Oh well more torchlight 2 and LotR: War in the North for me then. Now D3 will be close to when borderlands 2 is release though. Ugh need to schedule my priorities.

I love all loot fest kind of game! I will be playing all of them for the next few years. Loot fest games I'm looking forward to: LotR: War in the North,Torchlight 2,Borderlands 2 and of course Diablo 3.
I'm pretty damn sure their only doing this to compete with SWTOR or any other upcoming big game, seeing as SWTOR will probably get pushed back to early 2012 as well. They just wanna hold back till a big game comes out. Besides maybe the RM AH and a few AH bugs in general, everything else doesn't seem that bad. It seems they just recently fixed alot of scaling as well especially with the DH, and it shouldn't take the next 3-4 months to fix AH bugs ect.. Thats just pathetic considering this game was announced in 2008 and provides less content/resources as WoW, which has had 3 expansions RELEASED in the span of 3 years, close to 4 now. I know people hate WoW being compared to D3, and im no WoW fan but about 2ish, maybe 2 1/2 expansions of WoW provides more content/resources as D3 will as a whole game, and there already planning on announcing the 4th expac at blizzcon, while D3 doesnt even have a official release date yet, other then being "Early 2012". They even published the item database already among other things. There really shouldn't be an excuse not to release it by the end of 2011, it's really retarded tbh.
This is probably the 1st rant post I've ever posted after playing mmos/rpgs for 10ish years, if you even wanna call it a rant post, to me its just blizz being greedy, and I understand its good for the business but at the same time it shouldn't take a hack and slash game that provides maybe 4-5 hours per difficulty to take from June 28, 2008 to Early 2012 to release.
That's it! I quit...over it....this game is just like the hottest girl in the bar eye f*cking you the whole night then when you approach she walks away....FOR SHAME!!!
I've been calling 2012/2013 for YEARS now, anyone who actually thought it was coming out in 2011 needs to give their head a shake. And this heading is completely misleading. The release date for D3 has ALWAYS been "When it's done", NOT 2011. They were aiming for 2011 but Activision Blizzard excluding it from their 2011 financials should have been a huge tip off that's it's not coming out this year (despite a ton of people blindly clinging toANY reason to believe in a 2011 release date).
And lastly it's Blizzard, taking a long ass time is their middle name.
lol...
I'm actually glad to hear this, gives me time to save up some money for a badass rig. I also planned on playing skyrim for a month or two, so i'm feeling pretty good
Oh god this just destroyed Diablo for me. I was so, so very excited to see it come out in December which would've given me 2-3 months of complete freedom to play it all I want.
Early 2012 means it's going to be at the very least in February, so if I'm lucky I'll be able to play the game for a week before I head back to full time uni, with no spare time on the side. More likely I won't be able to even play it though.
Cheers Blizzard, you just pushed this right through my entire holidays.

FYI don't expect a January release either...
