Last month, Blizzard launched a mini-site dedicated to celebrating their 20th anniversary. Today's update included a brand new video overviewing the 20 years of their existence via a series of interviews on company's the key employees. Anyone that is a Blizzard fan will be completely inspired by this video, I guarantee it.

Did you know that Blizzard Entertainment was originally founded under a completely different name? What is the significance of Jawassic Park in the context of Blizzard Entertainment's art culture? Whatever happened to Orcs in Space? These and many, many more questions are answered in the full-length video we've just released on the Blizzard 20th Anniversary site. Clocking in at almost an hour, this video features candid commentary from the people who have spent the last two decades creating the games that helped make Blizzard Entertainment the company it is today.
Really great video, I have even more respect for Blizzard now after seeing how they rooted and grew off pure persistence and passion. My father bought me Warcraft Orcs vs Humans when I was a kid, that was the first game I ever fell head over heels for, been a fan ever since. Btw, I think Silicone and Synapse is very clever, sad no one got it. Though I think Blizzard suits their vibe, I can't see a big Silicone and Synapse banner behind the Monument outside of their HQ.

i think they didn't talk much about Diablo 1 and didn't talk at all about Diablo II cause the team that made them isn't there anymore (the leadership at least).
Blizzard North was pretty independent within Blizzard (even though i'm thankful they didn't proceed with their original plan for Diablo 1) and did their own thing, pretty much creating a genre.
I'm glad they talked them out of that turn based thing for diablo lol.

Btw, what i found extremely interesting is when they said "we want to take every subscriber from WoW to our other games. Cause if we don't, others will."
The majority of their subscriptions was for sure about their next MMO. But the more games come out, the more chances they have to lose subscriptions to other games (MMOs or not) anyway.
But this is going a bit off-topic so i'll stop talking about that specific part of the video
I agree, I feel like D2 is Blizzard's bastard child =/. I guess the people from blizzard north refused to take part in the coverage since.... well since they lost their job!
It evolved from Roguelikes so the turnbased thing was natural. The fact that they decided to take that concept and make it a 3D action game is what made it it's own genre.
And I think we're all happy they didn't go with the claymation idea as well.
PlugY for Diablo II allows you to reset skills and stats, transfer items between characters in singleplayer, obtain all ladder runewords and do all Uberquests while offline. It is the only way to do all of the above. Please use it.
Supporting big shoulderpads and flashy armor since 2004.
And I think we're all happy they didn't go with the claymation idea as well.
Funny how they don't miss a chance to belittle that team all those years later.
But I can see why they ignored Diablo II - none of the people interviewed had much to do with it and it is clearly the best thing they ever released. I still wonder if they will cancel D3 knowing it can never measure up.

I think that Diablo III will be the peak of how they belittle the previous team. Not only will it measure up, but it's going to set the standards extremely high for any opposition.
I think that's just a reference to the stop-motion style stuff of the old Sinbad movies, which probably helped inspire some of the design of things like the skeletons. But whatever works as an excuse to piss on the grave of Blizzard North one more time, right?

Well, it will have been at least nine years since the Flagship guys left, with billions of revenue since then, so it is kind of a mixed statement.
But I guess if you want a title like WoW to dominate, destroying all of the competition can be done both inside and outside the walls.
This can go very very off-topic. We both know each others' opinions. Let's wait for the beta and the release before we continue. Till then we're just throwing assumptions at each other.

You're correct. They pretty much spent the entire time gloating over how awesome WoW is. Pffft.
Good video, nonetheless. Really quite interesting to see the history of the company.
