We're all used to the tried and true Mana system, but with the new Fury system planned for Diablo III, the franchise is drifting into new waters, complete with a whole new host of possible imbalances.
The (unconfirmed?)Fury system of the barb sounds, in a way, similar to the Frenzy skill in D2. That skill is fun to use in PvM, but obviously isn't viable in PvP, since it takes time to charge up, time you dont have during a duell. That's fine with me, and so is any "charging" resource system Blizz thinks of in D3, because a fun class/skill is way more important then duelling.
If we all remember, Assassins that relied on charge up skills, and Druids that relied on Feral Rage, were very rare sights in PvP. The time it took them to charge up their skills, often left the opponent with a solid opportunity to kill them off. This is because skills that charged up had to wait several seconds longer to use, while skills that had no charge-up system, could be used at their full potential only by expending mana.
Which, raises the question, of how the Barbarian will be able hold his own in PvP?
Thankfully, Bashiok was there to shed some insight on the new system.

Well there are skills that generate fury, as was said, and there are skills that don't require any to be used. It's not going to be a situation where you get into a game and have to lumber around using your normal attack until you have enough fury to actually start dealing real damage. That wouldn't be very fun, and we don't like things that aren't fun.
So there you have it, the barbarian will be able to use certain skills without using fury. However, with this new knowledge, it raises the question of how powerful these skills will be?
If we use the example of the Assassins charge up skills once more, they were generally quite powerful at the third charge, but only for one hit. The fury system seems to be functioning quite similarily, except instead of having to "charge" specific skills, we will be charging our fury, then we'll be able to execute skills that meet the fury requirement.
So, if we draw some similarities between the two, we can conclude that skills that require fury will be more powerful than those that do not.
It's still unanswered how the barbarians skills will stack up against those of the classes that need mana to use theirs, however.
I'd like to think that the skills requiring no fury would be slightly less powerful than the skills of the other classes that use mana, but the skills that do require fury, would be much more powerful than those of the other classes. The time needed to charge the skill would be easily offset by extra damage, hopefully encouraging their use in PvP, and PvM.
However, we don't know for sure how these skills will be balanced. Knowing Blizzard, they'll do it right.

The difference between D3 barb's fury and D2 asn's combos / barb's frenzy is that those does not charge up when you take damage. In other words, in a duel, the oponent will have to attack you (duh) and when he do that you will get the fury you need.
Off: charges up like asn's combos are pretty bad in diablo. The own matial sin in D2 are terrible in Hell because she have to do 3 normal attacks before release a powerfull one, however in a difficult enviorment you don't have time to do 3 weak attacks before been raped. Imo thats why they changed how combo works for monks (every hit do something and helps you survive by one way or another).
im happy to say that charging skills were not a problem in endgame for my driud; being fast enough to charge up off outside creeps. but in d3 it may be a different story due to the likely uncrappy pvp (having no outside monster influence).

Still curious what has been a better PvP experience then Diablo?
Also Fury will be fine in Duels. You gain fury with each attack you take and each attack you deal, including skills as far as I remember. In the demo you literally had to try to run out of fury cause you had so much. Duels in Diablo don't last long and that's how they should be. This game isn't about dueling for 30 mins on 1 1v1 duel like in WoW it is about fast paced action and that is simply something WoW is not.
That sounds good, then. Not that I like melee, but if it works and isn't super-constricting, then there shouldn't be an issue. I hope the system the Wizard ends up with is equally bounteous.
The Fury system is obviously just a renamed version of Adrenaline from the warrior in Guild Wars.

No, I don't think so. It's an MMO, with a beast of a character.
There is only so much you can do for something like that. It's not surprising that things may or may not look like something from another game. I highly doubt game designers go look at other games, and take away from that, just renaming things here and there, and calling it their own. Well, at least I doubt Blizzard does that. They don't need to.
WoW is the very prove that blizz loves to steal stuff from other games. So much features from classic comes from another MMOs... (Craft, pvp scheme, mounts, mechanic, raids, etc...).
And i can see some good steals already to come in D3. In WAR every class has it's own special mechanic to use abilities and i doubt blizz will not take a look at that to get some inspiraton.
Please don't worship then like they were gods. Everyone steals in the world of games, specially RPGs cuz it rely to much in game mechanics.

Hmmm.....i can't find anything to say there... That was one stunning statement.
Oh ya, I hope they do it right....being a major component of gameplay and all..
