With the shedding of the traditional and nostalgic skill tree system of Diablo II (see Could The Skill Tree Be Gone Forever?), game mechanics are slowly re-gearing to fit with the new system, which Blizzard has not yet revealed. Respeccing, a feature confirmed many moons ago, will be facing some changes as a result of this new direction:
Official Blizzard Quote:
With the skill system revision work progresses to integrate the respec system a bit differently.
Not even knowing how the new skill system will function, it could be very well impossible to predict what this could mean for respeccing. Even so, have any thoughts?
I think that it is simply understood that if the skill system changes then so must the system that lets you redo it.
I think that the respec system is more proof that it will not be a dropped base skill system since respecs would be impossible. I like respec because it helps you when you make a wrong choice or chose a skill by accident. It should come at a high cost so people do not abuse it but it should still be available.

[quote=luc1027']yeah, many game adopt an ergonomic system that called "undo" so before confirm, you can test as your wish. After confirmed your choice is respecs
I want undo and respecs/quote]
Undo things are pretty good. And yes the gold value I stated was merely filler.
However when you respec your entire build isn't it more fun to start from scratch? Well must be a personal thing then. I think it's lame to just go from Berserker to Juggernaut overnight for example.
no i agree with you, and i know others that do too. I LOVED starting over in DII.
So if you've chosen wrong you have to regain enough experience to correct your mistake.
So finally you lose a level so a skill (level are limited), better to start over if you want any of your skills maxed, if you want the perfection.
If people aren't willing to think about their choices they should be forced to start over or lose some time correcting it, otherwise you'll end up with a bunch of braindead morons.
error happen, and a misunderstand of a skill description or if the skill are not good as your wish, like you thought.
Back in the days they announced the game I was happy and thought it would be for the Diablo fanbase. Right now it doesn't look like it is and thats sad!!!
Stop your hardcore gamer instinct !! ...Braindead ???? If you like starting over and lose time is your wish lol. I think passing time face a screen make us becoming braindead !!

I never said that I want a complet respecs. Only 1 point by point are enough.

1) I think people should lose skills or something for respecing.
2) To me figuring out skills and whats good combos is fun, but i hear you, and they should have a skill training grounds or something outside of the main game so people can make builds to see if its good. then noone can complain when they mess up.
3) I and others loved starting over. Hell i loved it so much I never got a 99 in the game, because its so fun to start over!
4) I'm not sure what you mean by "only 1 point by point", but if you mean you can respec only the last point you spent then i love that idea.

Lol i must confess that I loved to start over (In d2) !! but it's because I dislike how it is for hardcore gamer (trading, runs, slow leveling, customization decrease(you doesn't find better than what you have)...)
I think people should lose skills or something for respecing.
I don't think you will lose a skills until respecs serve to recover a skill lol. How to deleted your skill point lol.
But I think you will lose something for respecing like gold !! (or doing a quest)
I think the main argument that people opposed to respec have is they don't want people making a build, but then find out this isn't the best build. Then after someone does figure out a great build, they just switch their entire character skillset over to the better. For example, if I were to max meteor shower/ slow time, but then find out it would have been better for me to max electrocute and frost nova, I could simply click a button and voila, I have all my skill points back and I can put them into whatever I want. I think this is a bad way of looking at respec, and I really don't think this is how it will play out. I'm sure there will be a high cost to respec-ing.
People are making too many assumptions about the game. We've had but a sip of the satisfaction that is to come...Patience. Let's not let negativity overcome us before we've actually seen how the final game works.

Recover all skill points back are very very bad... I don't see anyone said that ?!?! it's just a bad idea.
almost reasons why people doesn't want respecs are (completly change your build) but why do you think a bad idea like that will be implement ????
respec will be only 1 point at a time. In order to having difficulty to respecs 10 points...

Missquoted. I wrote skill gain works as an advanced experience, so basically after spending 1 ae point, this xp is lost. You have to regain the advanced ep to correct your mistake. You could also call it "correcting xp" eg:
Skill "shadowfists" cost 1.000.000 advanced exp - you choose your skill - 1.000.000 advanced exp is GONE - BUT it was the wrong choice...solution? Simple: regain 1.000.000 and correct it. So please tell me how this is "hardcore"? Basically it works like the "undo feature" you could also lose 10% of your normal level for 1 point respecc aso..
Ehh maybe if the skill system work like that: earn skill with exp instead of level ! But I doubt...
I prefer pay gold to respecs, gold will be valuable, so we need to spend it into something... If respecs need to recover exp, you'll find more gold without spend it... so you drop the valuable...
If I respecs many skill, I will be weak if I fight the monster where I am in the game. I'll need to back up in the lower level ?? eurk...
Oh yeah having fun figuring out how to skill, play and fucking learn the game by experience is hardcore, got it. Don't know for sure but it looks like some of you guys are overly WoW spoiled, forgetting that AFK mode isn't fun!
I don't understand lol, I never play WoW... what mean AFK ???
The only thing that made starting over fun in D2 was the fact you could get to level 80 in a day or two by joining Tristram runs, Baal runs, and cow runs. I'm pretty sure if it took a decent amount of time to level, and couldn't be done uber-quickly, people would want a respec system.
I think it was Guild Wars, where once you maxed out in level, every time you "levelled" after that, you gained "respec points."
They could do something similar in D3, not with maxing out b/c barely anyone does, but just having a separate experience bar for earning respecs.
If you want to respec, you may have to go grind out a bunch of exp runs. That would supplement a lot of interplay, as high level players wanting to respec join runs with potentially lower level people needing help.
It's a good way to further facilitate co-op.
There could be a limit with how many respec points you can have at a time (maybe only enough to completely change 1 skill - so 5 points if that's the max you can put into one skill). that way if you wanted to start all over, you'd have to keep doing runs and recharging 5 respec points over and over.
Respecc is gonna be what it's gonna be. If it makes the game easier or in anyways reduces the fun factor I'm sure as shit that Blizzard will be removing it or further changing it before release.
You just gotta love Odin...
In response to him being too hardcore.....

I never said anyone said that. That's just the impression I get from people who are totally opposed to respec.
I also never said that my example was a good idea (I said the opposite) and I also never said i thought it would be implemented...I said that is what people seem to be assuming will be implemented....sigh....
The point is. We don't know anything about the new skill system and we don't know anything about the respec...How can we assume anything, and if we are going to make assumptions why would we assume that it's going to be terrible. Why not hope for the best?

well, as I see it... i don't have much time to play games, and when D3 comes i'll have even less time.. so if i make a crapy build, i'd like to havesomething that saves my time and let me keep playing instead of making all over again... of course it will need balancing to avoid abuse... i trust blizz
I hate the idea of a quick fix respec. Here's what I would consider an acceptable solution:
When a player decides to respec they will get to remove a skill point from any skill they choose, then they will lose a character level (and possibly the last stat points from the last level up). Then the player would have to level up again in order to regain their skill point to reallocate elsewhere.
This way the player has to actually work for their respec instead of it being handed to them on a silver platter.
Just my opinion.
Oh yeah, and hi to all, first post here!

So if I get your idea, what your saying is that;
If a player levels a certain skill, lets say, Magic MIssiles. When he finally reaches skill level 10 he realizes that at this point in the game he isn't able to effectively deal a big enough damage output and chooses to respex his skill points into a better offensive skill.
He would have to give up 10 levels of his character to get those points back right? It's an ok concept, exept that higher level characters will have a tough time with respeccing. Versus lower level chars who can respec at will.
I mean how hard is it to climb from 20 to 30? 4 to 5 hours.... What about ..Level 80 to 90 5 to 10 days or more. So isn't this kinda unbalanced..?

good point, but I think we need a respecs system anyway, is just too helpful to repair error instead to restart a character.
Good idea but, it's depending of gold value (balancing)
