2011 eh? Well it's almost 2010 already so one more year won't hurt... i'm happy to wait if it means the game is at it's peak. Why is everyone getting up Blizzard? They've been selling games since (correct me if i'm wrong) the Warcraft, i'm sure they know what they're doing.
It makes sense to leave it till after Cataclysm and SC2 to avoid potentially poor sales. Imagine if all 3 games came out at once...D3, WoW: Cataclysm (expansion not a game i know) and SC3. They would not get the top sales they would normally get if they were all sold seperately. Like any company, they wanna get the best buck for their product.
I'm not contradicting this point, all I am saying is that I think their marketing department did a pathetic job. By announcing Diablo 3 so early in its development cycle, and now stating that it will be released behind WOW Cataclysm and Starcraft 2, they are pissing their fans off.
They should have officially announced it shortly after the latter of the two releases, that way while people are playing WOW and Starcraft 2, they could rev up the excitement for Diablo 3 as well.
This way they could earn the cash, and build excitement as well, all in a way that doesn't piss off their revenue generating fans.

Well, first off, I'm not pissed off. I've been anticipating a 2011 release at best since announcement and have said so numerous times.
Anyway, you also have to consider on the other hand that if nothing was announced about it at that WWI after StarCraft just getting its second installment, fans (to use your stereotype) would be equally pissed off. It's a lose-lose scenario, although I'd rather it have already been announced, otherwise I would probably have given up with the franchise and probably this site.
Moreover, I would expect an expansion pack to be finished quicker than Diablo III because there is a lot more people in the WoW team (they have an entire floor at headquarters) and it's not an entire game. Also, StarCraft II was announced a year before Diablo III, so I think it still makes logical sense that StarCraft II hit shelves first, anyway. It would have been an insult to StarCraft fans, on the other hand, if Diablo III, being announced a year later, beat StarCraft II to the shelves.
So, anyway, I'm not pissed off, so I guess I'm not a fan, since being pissed off about just about everything these days seems to be all that people qualify as "fandom" in the Diablo franchise, but that's my two cents.
Well I don't see what all the fuss is about. A 2011 release was pretty much to be expected from Blizzard I thought. We all know how pedantic they are about their games.
And of course it was a given that it would be released after Starcraft 2. How couldn't it be? Starcraft fans have been waiting longer than us.
As for the early announcement, I think it was a good idea because I noticed that fans (except for the always optomistic hardcore fans over here at diablofans)were starting to lose interest and hope for Diablo. A lot of people really needed that extra boost of excitement that came with the early announcement. Plus, it also leaves plenty of time for Blizzard to listen to their fans' feedback and create a satisfying product.
And come on guys, waiting isn't a death sentence. There are a lot of great and much more productive things you can do in the meantime before Diablo 3's released. Christmas will come, just be patient.

I will concede this point.

Not really, quite a few people complained about the wowish graphics, including myself. However I would rather play it with wowish graphics than not at all, so I can live with it. But still, I don't think Blizzard makes many decisions based on consumer feedback (Bugs and other associated feedback from beta testing are excluded.), regardless of what they tell you in public or in private. They make decisions based upon what makes money.

no they aren't
it has actually amused me at the QQ (and how off base it all is)
I hope they delay it another 10 years just to see everyone continue to bitch and make empty threats
Yes, but doesn't a satisfied customer equal more money for the most part? But I see your point, I think most people will buy this game whether they're satisfied with it or not. Still, some won't either.

If that happens, it won't be ten years, and it will have nothing to do with the fans' expectations. If it isn't out by 2012, it will be because they don't want to threaten WoW subscription money with a one-time box sale and because they want to move the better developers on the team onto the new MMO. Both are good reasons to cancel the game, whether or not they bother to let us know about it.
I think that 2011 isn't that big of a stretch. When it was first announced, I was amazed that it actually had become a reality.
Blizzard isn't exactly known for being concerned how long it takes to put out games, however they do have one of the strongest and most loyal fan bases of any major gaming company. They know they can afford to pretty much feed us scraps every 6 months or so and they KNOW we will sit at the end of the table and wait for the main course to be delivered, whether that be in 6 months, 1 year, or 2 years down the road.
If Blizzard puts out a game that is of the caliber of games they are known for releasing, then the end result will be a game that we will love, and is DEFINITELY worth the wait.
The truth is that although all of us don't like the fact it wont be out for a while, probably 8-9 out of every 10 people complaining about it and saying they won't buy it will STILL shell out the cash when it gets released.

This just seems like common sense to me.
