Yet it's still UNREALISTIC and if you were looking at each object (both characters and surroundings) separately and without the knowledge that it was Diablo, I'm pretty sure half of the guys here would actually dislike it and regard it as 'lame'.
Lego-block characters FTW.
It's unrealistic. So what? It still holds true to diablo from the point of view from many. I don't think diablo was that realistic to begin with so this installment is nothing to go up in arms about.
Why would they regard it as lame? Maybe you would say that but you can't say the same for everybody.

Regarding realism in Diablo, Diablo is a fictional game in a fictional world with fictional characters and fictional lore. It's a hack and slash action role playing game. If I wanted, I could go into the woods in my backyard with an axe with 6-12 damage and slaughter some kittens, or I could play Diablo, select the Witch Doctor, and throw some Skull-Molotovs at huge groups of zombies while my pets eat their corpses. It would be a lot more fun, and I wouldn't have to go to a psych ward after.
People are talking as if Roper said something rather different.
All this is about is the difference in art direction that separated Blizzard and Blizzard North. Diablo III has Blizzard art direction and unarguably shows it, now more resembling the Craft games.
You're reading from that some kind of hostility from Roper that I'm just not seeing. Seems like a reasonable (and oft-made) observation to me. Lower the pitchforks, they're embarrassing, not to mention pathetic.

Please don't even try to do the REALISM analogy.
Your whole point was broken down *taps into memory* during the time of THE ART DIRECTION WARS :rolleyes:. Your fictional character can throw as many skulls as he likes but if they aren't done truthfully enough to at least resemble a REALISTIC skull and give off a feeling that you would have gotten by seeing a real skull - then they might as well be ping-pong balls.
You are simply trying to portray the very serious implications of D3 not giving a sense of REALITY as laughable with your moronic GAMES AREN'T REAL sucker points, even though visual immersement is crucial to any modern game, especially one that takes place in an environment like Diablo where you NEED that reality.
I'm sorry but you can't have scary skeletons and zombies when they look like they came out of a cartoon.
The visual and art direction might be 'pertty' and interesting as a style. I'm not necessarily saying the game will turn bad, but it will look 10 times better and more-like-Diablo if they appear at least a bit more real instead of the cookie-cutter block graphics we have right now.

lol it can still easily be a ranger since who said you cant shoot arrows at melee distance xD

The Barbarian is from Arreat, a very cold snowy mountain top, but they are much tougher than normal humans, so they don't need warmth.

Where are Barbarians originally from? Sumeria, or more specifically Mesopotamia, AKA Europe. Think the Alps and the Pyrenees

Believe me when I say I understand what you mean, but maybe it isn't realism they want; maybe it is just a different brand of art that happens to be more 'proportioned' when it comes to body parts, because they immediately think about Wow imo.

The female wizard looks very well proportioned to me.

Diablo 2 had a 3D dimension. It's not like it was tetris. Irrelevant to the point as well.
D2 uses 20x more realistic imaging than D3. Same goes for Diablo 1. They are plain to see. Open your eyes.
What's real about bland, oddly shaped characters?
Diablo 3 looks like it will resemble a water-color painting... with dark tones and splattered blood perhaps, but with unnatural-looking dimensions of both the models and the entire environment.
Unnatural=unrealistic
Unrealistic=not-believable
Not-believable=Not Diablo
Not Diablo=something else

I see this as just another brand of unrealistic animation. You may want D3 animations, or D2 animations. Regardless, you are confusing opinion for fact.
I find it interesting that Bill isn't upset with the graphics.
Is he supposed to throw chairs around, shout out loud and hold long speeches about D3's "evil"?
He's like:
- Yeah, you fucked up, it bothers me, but I can't do anything about it. I took pride in the way Diablo jumped away visually from the other Blizzard titles, but whatever. I lost my previous company so I've got bigger worries right now. I would like to tell you about my new game etc.

He's not like that at all! He never said he disliked it at all. He said it is simply noticeable it is in a different direction. Different direction does not mean he hates it. In fact, he said he didn't not dislike it. double negative ftw.

That was like a triple negative. Wow. Logic 404 there.
I think he was just trying to be careful about what he said- he probably didn't want to tick off Blizzard, but at the same time didn't want to not display his opinion. He was probably walking on a fine line, there. Regardless...

You know what I mean ^_^. I'm saying the hues of the setting make them think WoW, which make them automatically go to short, deformed dwarves.
