I have not yet played a MMO that I could stand longer than 2 weeks. How is killing the same critters over and over again to get experience or skin them is not a fail? That's all I remember in that game, killing monsters, arguing with people in chat channels, and exploring (the worthwhile part).
WAR was probably the most edible MMO of them all. Mainly because of scenarios and the open PvP and the other junk they put in there. You're sort of avoiding the point. Making it StarCrafty is the hard part. Who are you going to play as? How? Etc. MCC sounded really interesting, but Blizzard would never take such a risk.
Just because you do not enjoy it does not make it a failure....blizzard is making more money off of wow then any other game they have released...far far FAR from a failure....if you didnt enjoy it well thats fine....there are aspects I sure dont like about it to but with 11 mil players its hard to say its a failure....gotta be something great about it
If anything its stuff like this about all mmo's that there gonna try and change to get more people playing this new mmo of theres. Everyone who says wow sucks basically all say its the same shit over and over with non stop killing X of a monster for a quest over and over....changing this would possibly get a lot more ppl to play a mmo
Just because you do not enjoy it does not make it a failure...
It most certainly does. If I don't like it, what do I care for it and what is it for me but a failure?

If people enjoy something it has a greater probability to be a failure, because people have no taste nor brains and enjoy failure the most. Look at Titanic.
To not be a failure the product needs to be of quality. If it is not, it's a failure regardless of how much money it got.

Its a failure for you..and thats fine but in the eyes of blizzard and the millions of fans it has it sure isnt. I agree tho a lot of ppl have BAD taste but wow has a lot going for it IMO, great lore, rich detailed plot, awesome badass characters, and a very detailed world with lots to see.
A product does not need to be quality to not be a failure for a company...there concern is profit and sales and nothing more.....tho this is a blizzard game so quality is actually something they strive for....but for most people at the head of a company they could care less about there product being quality as long as its selling well
I don't think that the new MMO will be based on the Diablo series. The universe itself is vast, but I think Blizzard is going to make something new, like a new IP. It's not quite a risk introducing a new game universe into an MMO considering all the successful original MMO's (Everquest, EVE Online, among others). The only current series I would like to see become an MMO is maybe starcraft because the sci-fi MMO pool is a little shallow. All I know is they will probably announce the new MMO at next year's Blizzcon. On the account of what makes or breaks a game, I think that if the game is rich enough in content and has that zest that one longs for, then it makes the cut no matter how "weird", "lame", or "fail" it may seem to some. Generally a positive outlook on a certain product is measured in how much money it takes in, because people are willing to invest into that product due to a positive interaction and/or good appeal. By the way, Titanic was a pretty good movie at the time.
Someone started the rumour, others 'read it somewhere' (the rumour) and started spreading it. There is no official source to confirm that they said it will be a new IP.
It is not just a rumor that it is a new universe. They said it at BlizzCon '08. I watched it myself and here is a link from mmo-champion where they were documenting everything. http://www.mmo-champion.com/index.php?topic=20436.0
I don't think it's just a rumor! I saw an interview featuring Mike Morhaime where he told that they are working on a new game, the next-gen MMO! Btw, under the job section on blizzard.com, there is a 'Unannounced' section featuring job openings for the 'Next-Gen MMO'! Take a look!
'New game' or 'Next-Gen' doesn't mean that it is a new IP. That's probably where this confusion originates.
Not sure if anyone has pointed this out yet, but I didn't feel like reading through all the pages. Blizzard has already said that their next MMO, that is unannounced at the moment, is not related to any of their current game franchises.
It's most likely a whole new MMO of it's own style and without another game to be considered it's forefather. Maybe a smaller scale one for free after purchase of game. Or maybe a more fighting intesive one (something like AoC) or wow like but without the target system (hack-n-slash style).
I still stand behind my speculations. Stars of Starcraft baby.
Blizz has always been known for breathtaking breaktroughs, so if they pull off a mmoFPS based on the Starcraft universe with good hit detection / no lagg issues (wich i think is doable by limiting massive PvP to specific areas), they'll have the one thing many gamers have desired for a long time, and just didn't realize it. + They'll be set for life (if they weren't allready with WoW).
I could see this happening since it wouldnt really be competing with wow like a traditional mmo would.
Let's see Next-gen MMO.... That is so wide open. I take into consideration an earlier post that stats that WoW players are the MMORPG. Starcraft players are RTS. And the Diablo players are ARPG. So is it that hard to believe that blizzard may be trying to bring in a new audience of gamer? Think about it. Every company likes to monopolize somewhere. All I can see that Blizzard needs to do is make some kind of lame azz Sim City style kiddie game. You know they could and would if they thought it profitable. Not trying to offend but MMO is as it's stated a massive multi-player online game. Think about it, IT literally could be ANYTHING. and I'm not so inclined to think that blizzard is milking the big three to their deaths. Hold on to your wallets if they do a kiddie pop game because in today's society anything is possible....

"What is the use of complaining about something we know very little of?"
Fact number one: Warcraft player used to be an RTS player.
Fact number two: It is in Blizzard's only interest to rather cancel projects they invested millions on already, than release something that doesn't live up to their reputation.
Fact #3: Sim City is not a kiddie game. Nor an MMO.
Blizzard has already hinted that this new MMO falls under the same category as WoW, when they said that they have no plans to stop working on WoW and that they are not considering a 'switch' to another game (yeah, oddly enough, they are not compelled to stab 14 millions of loyal players/payers in the back). What does that tell you?
Well if anyone can afford to take a risk with a new IP, its Blizzard. I'm sure one months salary would cover the price of a failed game. But with the money continuing to stack and the talent at Blizzard, I don't see how a new IP could turn out bad in the first place.
Seriously, if a company can do nothing but stamp sequels and is unable to start a new IP, that company needs to go. All this WarCraft-StarCraft-Diablo chain is going to get old after the last two.

Sim city is not a mmo but think of the sim factor of creating a character and doing odd stuff. It's not that hard to imagine a create a character, get a job, live in a world and do stuff style MMO. And yeah it is a kiddie game. Or more or less a bubble gum pop kind of franchise if you think about it now. How many die hard gamers you hear of talking about the new house they bought in the sims2 or what ever. total kiddie game.
