1 or 2 expansions, no more then that! and they both have to come out within 4 years after the release date, otherwise the game will be getting too old.
They did it right with WOW, 2 expansions. But they should probably end it there because WOW is getting VERY old to most people.
I can't wait for diablo 3 to be released, and I'm not even thinking about an expansion for Diablo 3 yet. Diablo 2 and the Diablo 2 expansion pack were so popular that people are still playing today, so I'm sure that what ever blizzard decides to do will please us. Most people are just happy that D3 is finally under production. I think that blizzard should release diablo 3 and use patches to make any corrections that need to be made. Then, once blizzard has a solid idea for an expansion, they should start making one. Making expansion packs is a very good thing, but if the story extension is poorly done, the expansion doesnt have as large an impact on the fans.
cant wait to see the new drops in D3 like elixirs and no more bolts or arrows:D
I really hope they don't make too many expansion packs. They should stick with 1 or 2 at the max. Don't go overboard with them, since they still need room for this so callled Diablo 4 I keep hearing about...
Expansions are great, but they tend to mess up the pace of some games. WoW for example. With the second expansion out for woW now, anyone who makes a new character now has lots more content they need to go through just to catch up to everyone else, while some people breeze through the entire thing and are max level before other's have even had a chance to buy the expansion. although i suppose that's more of a flaw in the idea of RPGs to begin with, expansions only build upon that flaw. upon the release of a new expansion, all your characters that you've spent years working on can be rendered obsolete in a matter of days or even hours.

Looking at blizzard games in the past an present, many agree that the expansions have made them worse than the original/vanilla. I'm all in for extra content as long as they don't touch the major game mechanics like they did with D2.

I agree with you. Altho if they create expansions with just more acts and monsters people would say its a waste....but if they add in more mechanics to the game and other gameplay options then there is more reason to buy the expansion. Its a fine line surely.
MTV Multiplayer recently spoke with Blizzard CEO Mike Morhaime in regards to the business of World of Warcraft, in which he speaks about their goal for releasing game expansions on an annual basis". He went on to talk about Diablo 3 expansions:
Given Blizzard's "quality over quantity" creedo, I personally can't see them ever releasing expansions that often, because they'll always want to fine tune them even more. But what do you think? Considering how long we've had to wait for this third installment in the Diablo series, would you like to see continuous Diablo III expansion sets released roughly every year, or do you feel there needs to be more of a buffer in between those releases?
I believe anything more than a single expansion every 3-5 years is a simple grab for our money. Diablo 2 had one expansion, and that lasted about 5 years. The way they're talking, they'll be releasing expansions every couple of years.
I hated the fact that just as I was starting to become very well geared in WoW, an expansion would come out that utterly negated all of my progress and made everyone equal again. And I'd have to PAY MORE just to play the fucking game like I was doing months ago.
Of course the situation in Diablo will be very different, catering to powergamers of skill instead of "powergamers" of time-input. Nevertheless, I believe a little consistency in games is quite desirable. Turning an entire game upside down and shaking it every 2 years is a foolish idea.

Did someone mention Ladder resets?
You have to pay more because it is pay2play.
And my old gear is not 'negated' or anything in WoTLK. Quest rewards and dungeon drops are all useless to me, so I'm getting to keep my epics until I get to some serious raiding. Honestly, I'm glad they put the new content in. TBC was getting boring to me.
Oh and one more thing. D3 expansions won't have you work more because they won't be raising the level cap. It's just going to be stuck at level 100. So I don't see how expanding the game by adding locations and bosses is going to be a bad thing. If you ask me, I hope they keep making D3 expansions forever if possible. At least we'll be having fun in the game. What is there left to be done in D2 these days? Farm some Mephy?
Yeah, and an expansion is additional money on top of the pay2play. I don't see your point.

Don't be ridiculous. Level 75 quest rewards will blow your epics out of the water, just as level 65 rewards did before. The fact that old progress is utterly negated in each expansion isn't up for debate--your epics will help you level faster for a few levels, but who cares about levelling? Athene did it in 13 hours.

You are the one with the negative attitude here. Don't like new content? Evil new items and quests? That's horrendous. They should just make it a mini-game like D2 turned out to be. Heck, they shouldn't release D3 all together - it's obviously a greedy act of getting some more money and milking out the franchise. Sheesh! Who cares if expansion costs money? You get everything for fucking free anyway. They let you play on their own servers forever just for being a one-time customer. You can go to a fucking McDonald's more often than Blizzard can release D3 expansions, that I can promise you, and you will spend more money each time.
P.S. Level 75 quest rewards don't come close to my TBC gear.
P.P.S. If you don't like the expansions, don't buy them. Play the core game.

Did that respond to any of my points at all? Does your first sentence have anything to do with anything? No.
I think I'm finally starting to get you. You're fine with starting arguments (in fact, I think you rather like doing so), but when you realize you've been backed into a corner you resort to posts like this, or simply never post again in that thread.
My point, which you failed to adress in any way, is that revolutionizing a game every year or two is not "cool". It's annoying. I suspect you'll disagree with that point because it's clear that we're two different kinds of gamers. But dismissing every point I make in every thread I post in as errant nonsense does little to further your own points.

I did not resort to ad-hominem attacks as you just did. I am merely trying to bring our discussion to a closure instead of quoting tens of your sentences as if that will accomplish something or god forbid, change your mind. This is internet, no matter how strong my points or arguments may be, you will magically retort with the same or larger amount of quotes and 'arguments' and obviously expect me to play along for which I truly have no desire or time. I have stated my opinion. You have stated that revolutionizing the game is not 'cool' (I already mentioned that Ladder resets do just that, but somehow you failed to relate, did you)? And now I tell you to let Blizzards fanbase be the judge of that - WoW population grew by a million as the last expansion was released. That fact alone rests my case more effectively than any amount of quotes, insults, smart-ass remarks etc.
If you want me to respond to your points, you will have to make them more inspiring - how and why should I disprove or dispel your illusions if they already appear nonsensical as soon as you write them down?
I agree with Dimebog, quest/dungeon rewards untill level 80 won't get replaced if you had latest gear from TBC, I'm at 80 with my hunter with total 1 upgrade which wouldn't have been upgrade actually unless I would need less hit for monsters at my level than the bosses. It was different when TBC came around because the whole itemization was changed and you had a lot more stamina on the items by default and also I think Blizzard learned a lesson from TBC and let those old epics stay quite powerfull now even at level 80, because many where bitching about that their Vanilla gear became obsolete so fast.
To Dimebog about getting bored of TBC, I agree but TBC was serious crap at least imo and WotLK is more like Vanilla at least for the areas(no more floating in space!). The game has become better in some areas but I think there are a lot more bad things that have happened to the game since Vanilla. Something that come up in my mind is PvP, imo it has become bad. At least for me, raiding doesn't bring any kind of accomplishment and challenge anymore, also it doesn't feel even as close as epic as the 40 man raids at Vanilla. 5 man dungeons have become places that you fly trough in 15-45 mins, full BRD run took like 3 hours or something and the area was amazing.
Wow population did grow by a million, but that was already before WotLK was released so I suppose many players that quit the game already (just like me) activated their account to see the new patch and WotLK. But yeah I guess the overall population has grown that 1 million during TBC then.
ANYWAYS, bring more content, more stuff, more quests and a little bit of something new, maybe new skills to the trees etc, but don't change the base game mechanics too much.
