Look on the other picture, I think you can see it better... actually, I just realised from the concept art it is in fact fur. They should still put a few protruding horns along its spine and make the horns on its arms more noticeable. Because they're small four-legged creatures and they don't look as boney or weird as in Diablo I they need more dangerous-looking parts because they kind of remind me of dogs or furry animals, which is not as scarey as a ambushing, fanatical flesh-borrowing horned demonspawn hound.
Other than that they're great

mmmm the annoying leapers can burrow now...
These aren't leapers they're scavengers. Leapers are cheap imitations:P I hope they still make that dying sound. (D1 scavenger dying sound)
This isn't a petition debate thread to attack each other for personal views. It's a topic on the new creature. If you like it say what you like about it, if you don't say you don't. Let's not run off into the petition/art debate arguments.
Thanks,

I know my post was offtopic, but then again so was his when he started with the attacks by calling people that do not like the way the monster looks ingame,"petition boys looking for a reason to whine".
Also, you pretty much misunderstood the whole argument, for it has absolutely nothing to to with the art petition or any of that, but with the way the monster looks completely different from artwork to ingame.
Again, I agree that I shouldn't have attacked him, but then again you should have done your job when he started it by attacking people that do not like the way the scavenger looks.
Unless of course, this forum has now decided not to moderate fairly. And surely, that is not the case, right?
I like the in-game version. It looks like a cross between a hyena and a mole (the claws mostly) and some kind of serpent/daemon. With regards to similarity to the concept art, the in-game model does look a lot like the most recent image (the one that's also at the top of the Scavenger page).
edit: I just checked out the gameplay video again and noticed that the Witch Doctor's mongrels look a lot like the scavengers from Diablo 1. I guess they decided to give the new scavengers a more furry, mammal-like appearance and browner textures to differentiate them from mongrels. Also, the mongrel's model and some of its animations are very similar to the new scavenger's.
Finished models don't usually look like their concept art. The Dune Thresher, Scavenger and even the Assault Beast don't look the same in the concept art.
Concept art, like it's name, is meant to give the "idea" of the model. In concept art, the artist is allowed to go wherever he wants with his work; add more spikes here and there, put more hair over here... etc. after that, the developers look the the work and say "We want that in our game", but then, there's a problem. They need to translate the drawing into a 3 dimentional model with various animations and actions, make him fit into different environments, skills, and with all that, make the model not too complicated in order to save file size and not have a bunch of that monster slow down the computer's performance. All that is being taken into consideration after coming up with a concept, that's the reason monsters don't look the same in-game.
I am a bit worried about how different the in-game models look from the concept art. It really doesn't look like the same concept at all. The concept art looks much more threatening.

Just above the barbarian... is that a flying pair of pants I see?
Too bad most of the pictures are the same rehashed areas... although the Tristram shot (I think is what we all believe it is) is pretty neat.
Hungry? Why Wait? Grab a Barbarian!
