The Diablo 3 website has been updated with a new bestiary unit: The Scavenger. One of the Diablo 3 demonic creatures in Diablo 2 is hinted to have been a transformed version of the Scavenger. They attack as a group and are swift as seen in the screenshot.
The Scavenger is the creature inside the cage mentioned in the Dune Thresher tale. The hunter unleashed three of these Scavengers into the sand as bait for the Dune Thresher. They dug out of the Dune Thresher's stomach, before dying to the intestinal acid, effectively killing the Dune Thresher.
Sounds like you will need a few stamina potions to outrun these pestering menaces. eh?

The concept art on these guys are awesome, I wish the 3D model looked more like those drawings. They don't come off as being aggressive, I would never pick one to take down a dune thresher. The lore and the concept art is sweet though.
PlugY for Diablo II allows you to reset skills and stats, transfer items between characters in singleplayer, obtain all ladder runewords and do all Uberquests while offline. It is the only way to do all of the above. Please use it.
Supporting big shoulderpads and flashy armor since 2004.
I love how these Scavengers quickly come out of nowhere to ambush you after you loot a corpse. It adds extra tension to the game. And it seems from that Blood Guard artwork that the Berzerkers are actually demons mentally controlled by the Triurn, I wonder what happens to them if you kill the guy controlling him.

Sounds like you'll need a few stamina potions, yes, but I doubt you'll need a health globe to stand there.
I doubt stamina potions will be of any use against them, since there's no more stamina lol

Good stuff. Pretty bamf how they dig themselves outta the stomach of that thing haha. Next up, blizzcon.
What there's already just one week left before Blizzcon? Where does the time go?
more seriously now, i love the way the lantern projects a yellow orange-ish light in the dark, and the ruined house is awesome, in that screenshot with the barb and the scavengers there is also a dead corpse with a shield, and that is cool to me cause its the 1st time i see a shield in the game
Well, it's not a barb unless barbs can learn firebomb now. Apparently a pale-skinned female WD.
Haha xD I love Blizzard. It all makes sense now. 'burrowing death' - 2 parts - 2 monsters. The Scavengers were an unpredictable addition to the bestiary... and am I the only one who thinks they are cute? (In the flash animation - they are like hamsters ^^)
*Yeah, night time screenie looks alot like Tristram with all that dark. Don't kill me, but I think the whining about the art actually did something... by 'something' I mean even the tiniest thing.

If by doing something you mean making them post that screenshot... Even though there has been a lot of talking about the graphics I doubt it will change anything. It doesn't take a genius to know that Diablo is supposed to be dark, creepy and gothic. The game is obviously a lot darker that what we have seen so far and there's no good reason to show us the best of it a year before the release.
The scavenger info was enough to keep my Diablo III balls from turning permanently blue, so that's a plus. I hope they do this sort of jazz for all enemies, it's great!

Man, who ever is doing the 3d models for the monsters needs to be fired. I know next to nothing about creating monsters in a game, but That thing they call a scavenger looks nothing like the artwork.
Artwork scavenger = dark, scary, ferocious.
In game scavenger = fluffy, colorful, happy, kind of like a teddy bear.
:(
I'm quite pleased with the concept art and story attached to these little buggers - and the animation on them is pretty awesome.
However I wish the model looked a bit more menacing like the concept art suggests. Would be nicer to have some horns on em and have a slightly darker texture and more detail in terms of the teeth/spikes that it bears.
Once again I must stress....awesome animation through its body language and burrowing effect.

100% agree. I myself can make better models than that.

Though I will give Blizzard the benefit of the doubt. Perhaps these monsters won't be as ridiculously pointless as last time.
It's the decisions you make when you have no time to make them that define who you are.
a) fight to death
Run like a sissy w/ stamina potion
I would choose option b. lol

Loved the d1 scavengers, glad to see them back. although, they seem to have grown a fluffy coat :?
concept art looks pretty savage, as usual.
~not going to buy a wow-ish diablo 3~
