I think it will be likely that they have a demo. It will probably have the 2 known characters and the new one they are revealing. The playable area will probably be nearly identical to the game play trailer, but hopefully we can get to see some new environments!.
I think this makes a lot of sense from a marketing perspective.
I cant wait unttil this weekend to see what they say about diablo III... looks like they have plenty to say... only wish I could be there to play the demo...

I know not with what weapons World War III will be fought, but World War IV will be fought with sticks and stones.
I have this gut feeling that you guys are having collective dillusions about this demo.....
I mean they have barely even spoken out on most crucial game mechanics and have been saying that they "haven't resolved this issue yet" or "haven't gotten around to creating those". So I'm here asking myself, how the hell would they put up a playable demo at this point with so much substance lacking.....
I mean I ain't trying to be the pessimist of the group and "see the glass half empty" but it just sounds too "fast" for Blizzard. But I'm praying to God that I'm dead wrong and Blizz do come up with a playable demo for the masses! haha

the game cant come out until at least late 09 and yeah i do too believe it will be playable at blizzcon and WWI 09 and Blizzcon 09 {the only reason i say there will be a Blizz 09 is because they can use this blizz to portray number 3 of classes the WWI for the 4th and finally Blizzcon 09 for last class and release date that should be a good nough timeframe

Not even Death will save you from Diablo Bunny's Cuteness!
What gives you the idea it would be for the masses? Just the attendees obviously.
No one is giving me an idea, that's why I said *Quote* "I hope". Meaning it's what i wish that would happen, not at all having any relation to what Blizz is actually planning. "Obviously"
Riddle me this, if D3 was playable at BlizzCon 2009, would it afterwards be released as a full fledged demo available for download? Or would it exclusively be held at BlizzCon for a 2 day beta testing....?
*Hopefully the afore mentioned*

So you don't consider concepting and design to be part of the development process?
Moreover, you don't think that anything like development on the title was happening in the over 4 years between the release of "LoD" and the closure of the studio? But it began immediately upon the closure of this office?
they are a part of the making of the whole game but there are different stages. when diablo 3 was early in the making the blizzard north was still operational.
think about this. when diablo 3 had "quite a bit of pre-production" done, starcraft 2 was already in the actual production, which is 2003. and the actual production for diablo 3 started in 2005, so when do you think that the pre-production of starcraft 2 started?
Man... just hope we wont have to wait 6 or 7 years until it comes out!!!!!!

from the above:
"When I left Blizzard in '03, Blizzard North had done quite a bit of pre-production work on Diablo III..."
Looks like Mike's version seems to contradict your contention.

To those of you who are going, see if you can video some of your gameplay. They probably won't allow it, but I'm sure they won't take away cell phones

These are all very interesting theories.
