Tracey John, MTV Multiplayer journalist informed us of his recent interview with Diablo 3 Lead Designer Jay Wilson which focused mostly into discussing the new and revamped Secret Cow Level in Diablo 3.
No deep details were revealed, but from the little taste out of Jay Wilson's responses you can tell the Secret Cow Level is coming back but in a different way. He even criticizes the bad things about the cow level in Diablo II, and how they will be tinkering to improve it. It would be useful, but it won't replace core content by farming your levels there rather than through the game itself. There may be a few innovations and surprises to the new version of the Cow Level. Read the interview.
Lol, really? That's great. As long as they revamp it like they say they weill, bravo.
I just hope it doesn't spawn more cow rushing and looting, and crap like that.
By the way if you read the interview you'll notice they're not positive if the Cow Level will return.
We don’t really know at this point. I really like the idea of secret stuff that ‘Diablo II’ put forward, but it’s not the kind of thing we would decide this early. But if we have something, I can assure people will be happy with it.
Snowee : he's being a little too talkative, you dig? There's going to be something.

Seems like Jay just figured out the secret combination to awesome Diablo games
add more MOOOS
I hope it will be a more hidden secret this time around though, maybe some sort of secret you can find in the game instead of looking at the list of the Horadric cube formulas on bnet
To me it seems like it is not that the cow level will return, but there will be some type of secret level. Or to be more accurate, that there MIGHT be some type of secret level (but we're all pretty sure there'll be, right? I mean, all of their games have something, this won't be different.).
he speaks mostly of what were the problems he saw with the cow level from diablo2.
I don't agree completely with him, btw, I had no problem with the cow level as it was, but sure there's always room for improvement.
Anyways, I'm pretty sure we'll see the return of the cows at one point or another in the game.

And to know who needs help
You need only just ask

I feel like the novelty of the cow level has worn off at least on me. As ashamed to admit it as i am, i was one of the people who thought HG:L would in fact be ''Diablo 3''. And in my time on their forums there was one particular thread i payed most attention to. This thread was undeniably the COW LEVEL THREAD. At the time i was excited by the idea. ''Old diablo team, secret cow level, heh it doesn't get much better than this''!
WRONG. i don't know if its my disappointment in HG:L that has turned me off to any ideas they touched (cow level) or if I'm just seeking newer secret content.
I feel like Blizzard would want to separate themselves as much as possible from the HG:L failure even if it means sacrificing a classic like the Cow Level. I guess to sum it up, the Cow Level is tainted in my eyes.
I would be more excited if there were more secret entry ways like there are in the catacombs/jail levels in act I. However those doors only ever lead to box rooms with chests/gold that didn't necessarily loot much. I think more things like that would be great.
I actually don't want a Secret Cow level. Why? Because I want Blizzard to be original for once. They haven't had an original idea since SC (you can't count D2 cuz it's a sequel and WoW is everything but original). "Secret Cow Level." Been there, done that, abused it to no end. I'd like to see something else better that is secret and hard to find not to mention, as the guy said in the interview, something that you can't abuse like the Cow Level was (why even call it secret anymore?). And besides, the Secret Cow Level was a joke from the original Diablo and it's lost meaning cuz there's people today who play Diablo 2 and have never even picked up Diablo 1 and even then, they wouldn't be privy to the "inside joke."
So long as there's no Secret Cow level and for damned sure no Secret Murloc Level, I'll be a happy man (though that doesn't mean I don't want something secret in the game for some comedy relief) Maybe a Secret Zergling Level? ROFLMAO! Or better yet, a secret level completely populated by those exploding suicide guys from Act 5 or something stupid like that.
But please, no re-hashed old ideas....be original Blizzard...
Secret levels are definitely a great idea... but be original please. We don't need cows again. Do something innovative. Maybe more than just 1 kind of monster spawns. My idea for the Hellgate:London secret level was the London Zoo. Where all of the animals were corrupt and demonized. Which isn't necessarily innovative... but its a new idea. New ideas are good.

There was no Cow Level in Hellgate London because Blizzard owned rights to that as funny as it sounds, and FSS probably knew at the time Diablo 3 would have something like a Cow Level most likely, so I don't see why they would have had the rights to put a Cow Level in Hellgate in the first place as much as Roper probably wanted there to be.
blah not another cow level.. figure out something new please. and farming levels there? Please god now. its not apart of the game and story it should be just for fun one time per difficulty.
I dunno... I doubt it'll be the cow level, we expect that. It'll probably be something different.
Anyway nothing will remain secret in a game this anticipated. It'll be discovered in probably a week or two and then be all over the internet in a few days after.
I thought the cow level was cool. But the idea of having more secrets in the game would be better. Maybe it could relate to the story, or just something a little extra.
I remember in Baldur's Gate 2 there was a a house you could only enter with a special stone. Inside was a insanely hard party u had to kill. Killing the guys within and the items they left was very rewarding.
