I think that there are many possibilities to explore with the pvp system. Personally I love the pvp system with wow and while it has been made apparent that blizzard has to chosen to create a game that is similar to its predecessors in many respects, there are still a lot of possibilities for change.
One thing I would love to see is an enhanced system for taking people's ears. If there was a log of some sort that could visibly display to players who ispected them all of the ears that they had acquired it would be a really fun way for people to boast and occasionally tease each other. It might also be a good idea to no longer treat ears as items, but rather log them automatically so that the owner of it could obtain it automatically so as to avoid the possibility of someone snatching it before the right guy gets it. This could also make organization a little bit easier for players.
I think Blizzard should phase out the old chatroom based starting room that existed in D2, and replaced with a graphical instanced area (to prevent too many people from being in the same area). In this area people could set up shops and sell things at thier on prices or there could be an Auction House based system. If those two setups require too much coding or support, then it could just be an area for people to shout out trades and trade in this area, rather than starting a game room to trade. I think it may, at least in the beginning, cut down on a lot of scams with other people watching you.
if i could suggest something concerning trading features and pvp, it would be to Not Recreate the WoW pvp system into diablo III, but take diablo II's pvp system and expand off of it, improving ever so slightly, untill you end up with a fully evolved system, that remains original to diablo II, but is much advanced. as for the Trading, if you could keep the full screen trade system as simple as it was in d2, with out trying to make it fancy and epic, by for example making all sorts of add ons and complexitys than you need. simple works.
id also like to add that one of the main excitements of playing diablo I/II was the use of your imagination, lots of black areas gave such room for personal imagination. thats one thing that turns me off about games nowa days everything concerning imagrey is already there, and i get bored if im not able to paint this world through my eyes. that fact accompanied with randomly generated drops makes diablo an immensly addictive game.
I would like to see a couple different things show up in Diablo 3 that werent in Diablo 2.
1. Player Trading Items: I would like it to be much easier than in Diablo 2, the obvious answer is to have an auction house, but this then loses the personal touch. You cant have people spamming the Battle.net areas also cause thats just annoying. It would be nice if there was a setting where if you have item you want to trade you could click and turn on a feature that put it into a central database, and then when you find someone who wants it it gives you an option to open a portal to a central trading center where you and the other chartacter can trade then go back through your portals into where you were in the game. If this is evenn possible i dont knwo but it seems to retain the personal touch without infringing on the players to much.
2. Complemetary Combat: I would like to see some type of complimentary fighting systems in place in Diablo 3. This means that 2 or more classes can use spells or talents together for more damage, more than palidin auras or druids pets. An example would be the witch doctor can throw a firebomb which would enhance the warriors next attack to be fire. Another example would be if the warrior ground slams other players can do additonal damage to any target affect by a second or 2.
3. Merc Customization: I would like to see the additions to the mercs in Diablo 2 in Diablo 3, but with a few more slots of gear to cutomize your mercs. Instead of just head, chest, weapons add belt, feet, ring and necklace. These will make them more unique and help people want to build them up.
4. PVP System, I would like to see a PVP system that can be played single or on teams that have a rating system. Now I know people hate it when you refrance WOW with Diablo, however the Arena system where people are matched on points and gear so one side is not totally overpowering the other is a good system to start with.
5. Server lists, I think It might be a good idea when creatign a game on battle.net for Diablo 3 that the creator can choose PVE or PVP. The main reason behind this is not everyone wants to PVP all the time, so what some people use to do is create games with passwords so no one can bug them. Having this option would stop that from happening opening the world to more people playign against or with eachother.
I think the way trades were handled in Diablo 1 still works but why limit us just to that. I would love to see an AH attached to Battle.net with Diablo 3. This would allow people to enjoy the game even when they aren't able to play and would open up a whole new world of trading in a game that isn't an MMO and doesn't need to be.
Craigslist style trading would be very cool. Not exactly like WoW and other games with the auction house, maybe similar but more of a Craigslist in order to trade items instead of just gold. Like if you wanted someones item thats up for sale in the Auction House or whatever you can send a PM on the item to them that arrives in there inbox in the friends/community box then they reply saying they except or not or ask for more or simply dont reply. Talking Diablo 3 of course, I also think a friends/clan/community box should be implimented and clans should be organized and competitive in dueling.
I also think it would be awesome if the characters all changed throughout leveling up. Level 10 they would look simple and like normal people, but then every 5 or 10 levels they would change, not exactly to look older or larger or anything but those could both be decent ideas also. I think the characters should look either more evil or more good as they level up depending on which side they choose to sympathize with, and when they choose that at the beginning of the game it changes certain quests throughout the game. And then if you max out a character you get a really badass glow or cool looking effect depending on your side. And maybe 1 special skill depending on your class and evil or good, for max levels only or 90+.
Would add replayability and allow you to go through evil and good modes with every character if you wanted to get all the side quests and full stories of all of the characters to peice it all together.
This game is going to be amazing, can't wait! There is my two cents.
I would love to see a thorough PvP ranking & matching system. Preferably something that matches you against other players with similar skill/gear. Furthermore, I think there should be some kind of setting where if you win a majority of your skirmishes, you get bumped up to the next tier of PvP combat so you're more or less always fighting people who are on par with your skill & gear level. That way, you can fight against other people who aren't going to slaughter you and against people who you don't slaughter (at least not for an extend period of time).
Team based PvP. There should be arena matches in Diablo 3, that are 2v2, 3v3, 4v4, much along the lines of World of Warcraft.
The same could apply here, and while I would *not* like to see skill benefits from a rated PvP system I would like to see useful/interesting rewards which could include items. The difference here in itemization would be that the 'rated' items would be slightly less powerful than the best dropped items you can get- simply because everyone can solo or small-group get these items as compared to WoW where you have to raid for the best PvE PvP gear (rogues.)
So, we take this system from World of Warcraft, throw it on a ladder, and reap rewards. It could be through a point system or through strait gear rewards?
Well, what's missing from WoW Arena? Spectators. We need to have the ability to WATCH/Record rated matches. Pref. without FRAPS, because we all would love to watch these matches live. Can you imagine watching the #5 and #1 team go at it live? The learning experience alone would be fantastic. Please avoid the solo 1v1/dueling type PvP balance, and stick to synergestic combinations or hey... let the players work out the synergies.
I think this alone would make diablo 3 pvp amazingly exciting compared to what was in Diablo 2 and with spectators maybe even more exciting than what we have in World of Warcraft.
Trading:
A bazaar/auction house/whatever you want to call it is necessary, but the one thing I would *really* love to see is a 'shared bank' so that you can move items between your characters without risk.
This is an idea regarding the crafting system, and in it i will be keeping in mind that they have (of course) already stated that there will in fact be a crafting system, and that it will not be using the horadric cube.
When i first started playing diablo 2, i heard about the hell forge and always pictured it as something we could use to create items, so this idea is based around that. Also, This idea is based based off of the assumption that they will be keeping different difficulty levels.
I think that for the new crafting system, they should have a type of forge, that appears in one of the later acts (think 4 or 5), and is used to create items. You will first hear about the forge in the town for that act, and will be sent on a quest to find it. Once you do find it, there will be a followup quest to find a sort of magical smithing hammer (think of Charsie's Horadric Hammer here). Once you find that, you unlock the ability to create items (the hammer will stay with you throughought difficulties, but in the later difficulties will be upgraded via another quest).
To create these items you must gather the required materials, and bring them to the forge with the magical hammer. The created items ilvl will be determined by the quality of your smithing hammer, and the level of the base item used for creation (just as items in diablo 2 were). So for example, in normal difficulty, the hammer would generate a random number between 1 and 30 (nightmare could be 31-60, and hell could be 61-99), and then add half of the item level of the base item.
The new item would have 1 of the original items base properties, and an additional 1-4 affixes, determined by the ilvl. This would keep a sense of gambling, but could also ensure that you have at least 1 desirable property.
I would like to see a little randomization in the lore. Not major components but little things that will make the story a little different everytime, much like the dungeons.
1. I'd love to see a PvP ladder, tracks kills, deaths, damage done, etc.
2. I'd extremely like a pve and pvp combo. Where not only does the player your versing matters but the environment matters also.
3. Counters are a must but not extreme counters. Like in WoW Warlocks have almost no chance in killing a rogue.
4. A counter attack, right now in Diablo 2 stacking absorb and resists can be a way to beat your opponent but if the class you were facing had a way to counter this it would make it balanced.
Trading:
1. No gold please, I love bartering with items more then spending gold on an item.
2. A trade monitor would be nice to be preventive against scams. Both players go to an NPC and then each person gives the item and the monitor makes sure they are the right item to each person.
Not related to trade or pvp but I'd like to see the classic diablo inventory with difference size items but the ability to turn them so you can fit your inventory like a puzzle.
Most importantly, I don't want a WoW hack and slash.... I want a Diablo 3
In terms of PvP, this isn't exactly player versus player in the traditional sense but, a boss rush/speedrun ladder might be pretty fun. Teams of players could compete to see who can slay various boss monsters in an arena the fastest. No loot drops, since a boss rush mode would defeat the purpose of doing Baal runs and the like. Instead, special rewards would be available to teams that place into certain time brackets. This could make players look for more strategic ways to kill, as opposed to repeating the same tactic time after time simply for loot.
Certain power items should be monster specific. As in example, The Butcher from the original Diablo was the only monster in the game that could drop the Butcher's Cleaver.
If our friends over at Blizzard could reinstate an item specific drop system... that would be wonderful. It was rather exciting to see a boss drop a weapon he was weilding himself. ^.^
For trading, I would like to see some kind of chat room trade... no joining random games to try and trade items. Also, some kind of verification of the trade that you would have to click after accepting the trade, just to double check the item.
For PvP I would like to see some kind of arena, and possibly tournaments like WoW.
I think its great when a company takes the time to hear from its player base when developing a game!
My suggestion: (there is a lot of great suggestions already didn't get a chance to read them all yet so hope i am not repeating anything or stealing any ideas but here goes)
Trading:
As we all know gold was useless in D2 and the players preferred to use a system of item to item trading and even came up with a value system of an (soj) and rated items as to how many soj a item was worth even.
I think gold should become of value again for trade in D3. A good way to set that up would be through a AH system like WoW, but also keep the item to item trading. Were a person may bid on an item with gold at a value the seller sets and/or make an offer of X item or items for the sellers item. The buyer could put the items into the AH system to be "bid" against the sellers item; were then notification would be sent to the seller of the pending "trade" and if the trade is accepted by the seller the items would be mailed to the corresponding people done deal.
Now depending if you are thinking of doing the same item system as WoW with soul bound items and what not will depend if a person can put items up for trade that they were still using and if so instead of putting them into the item into the AH "system" a notification of x item for y item would be sent to the seller to accept or not. If accepted notification would be sent back to the buyer to put the items "into" the AH system to complete the preauthorize trade.
Open trading without the AH should also still be allowed but in a more secured fashion then in D2, A system like in WoW were each player is prompted a window were they see both their items and the other persons items and both have to accept to the trade after each item in placed in the window and if any alterations to the items reque's the accept.
1. Make hardcore more hardcore. This can be done by allowing certain achievements(ill talk about this later) to be done only in hardcore mode, also make more unique weapons and armor only available to those that play on hardcore, and perhaps even put some events in the game that can only be done in hardcore mode, i think there should be more to this mode if you can only live once.
2. Achievements system. This would be great for a game like diablo 3 because it would keep players occupied with something other than completing the game on different difficulty levels.
Rewards for this system could range from titles to weapons, armor, even unique runes and charms gems, etc. Make there a reason to achieve these achievements. Another good idea for this would be an achievement ladder showing who was accomplished the most and special rewards are given when you do a certain amount of achievements.
3. Make pvp better. This could firstly be done by making games that are pvp games able to hold more players than 8 so it can be even more epic, the more blood the better. Also allow for some pvp mini games, an idea i had for one would be a survival game that is based around the aspect of last man standing except instead of having to only worry about players you have to worry about monsters too! Thats right there would still be the same amount of monsters as there would be in a normal game, i think that would be sick. Tournaments would be pretty cool too i guess though would be have to match you agaisnt people of the same gear, arenas would be a stupid idea, wouldnt make any sense, this isnt WoW its diablo.
4. Make some parts of the game only playable on your own, one of the reasons diablo is so much fun is because of the idea that your all on your own, completely outnumbered, nowhere to run, etc. If certain dungeons were only playable by yourself that would be cool.
5. Barter system. This would be a list of trades going on on bnet so you would look at this list in the main directory of course. You would be able to see the items that are being bartered and what the other player wants in return there would be a button that lets you interact with the person and then you can arrange a meeting time and place. Once the deal is made the barter would be taken down of course.
Sorry for doing this as a first post, but I am Half-Dead, and I have been a legitamate D2 LoD player for about the past 2-4 years (cant remember in detail when I got the game).
Anyway, I just so happen to be opinionated on the games in development at blizzard, and (thanks to this contest) I now have a legitamate reason to share them.
First off I would like to say awesome game so far Blizzard. I was browsing the gaming list on Diablo and one of the games said "D3 Announced!" and I actually went to the site, and spent well over 3+ hours on the site and even more on the forums.
Now as for my ideas!
(sorry if these are your ideas, but the following ideas have been tweaked to my standards and have MY thoughts in them, not yours)
Personally in D2 I thought most of the bosses were weak. Andariel, for instance, could be taken out in 3-10 seconds with a full balanced party of players meant to be doing the quest (Levels 12-18). This inferiates me, as because I love boss fights! The harder the boss, the more times you die, and the more gold you spend to kill that boss are all things I would love to see in Diablo 3.
Gold. There have been quite a few people arguing over this, and sorry to say, I was one of them. Gold was literally meaningless, with the exception of charged item repairs and Mercenary reviving. Of course I have never played the origonal Diablo without LoD, so I dont know what the gambling system was like before (apparently) Runes and MF became the key trade and no one felt that Gambling was worth it. However during LoD (lord of destruction) I noticed that by act 2 I had already gotten (no lie) 48k Gold. Honestly, who can carry around 48 thousand pieces of gold?? Anyway I believe gold should be made worth SOMETHING, and that it shouldnt be made just for repairs and merc reviving. Although im not sure how you could balance this, perhaps you might be able to add a way to buy REALLY good equipment from venders, for instance say a shako helm for (under D2 LoD gold standards) 9 million gold. It wouldnt be available to everyone, but it would still be available and give people a reason to farm for gold, not runes.
Infinite Dungeon. A time-wasting dungeon that gets increasingly harder every level, perhaps similiar to the dungeon in Diablo one. It might be able to feature no town-porting, to the point to where you have to WALK back to the beginning (or every now and again you get a shrine of TP), increased gold drops, better gear, and funner rare//unique monsters to fight with unique talents that only that particular unique has. (Perhaps in level one it spawns an Undead Mage that can cast level 3 ice-bolt?) I know from experience on the Legit D3 forums that this idea has taken alot of popularity, and is perfect for hard-core players of diablo.
Hardcore mode. As I do not know if this will or will not be implemented in Diablo 3, I just wanted to reflect on the fact that I WANT it in diablo 3. It serviced us players with the addiction of survivability, instead of running in, Cramming pots, dying, WPing, and Repeating the process until everything is dead. Enough Said!
A more realistic?? way of death. In diablo two if you died (apparently patch 1.10+?) you spawn a corpse, and to get your gear back you have to grab that corpse. I propose in diablo 3 multitudes of ideas for more-realistic death penalties. For instance maybe you could add on a ghost feature (sorry to say) like WoW has; or maybe even when you die you LOSE all of your gear, and you ressurect back in town with nothing (sorry for the hardcore experience). Or maybe you could become (assuming we are in Act1 D2) a Rogue Ranger with a special ability to ressurect yourself once you get close enough to YOUR corpse (this will work if you implement different abilities instead of keeping your character's abilities)
Another Cow-level. According to Bashiok the cow level was just more or less a "Present" bestowed apon us that no one was supposed to know about, but with its Uber MF its hard not to go into it. I say you implement something like the Cow-level because it was absolutely HILARIOUS with the cows w/ pikes, mooing at your demise. (change it if you wish, maybe a secret Tauren Level?? rofl)
Make mercenaries WAY more balanced and WAY more customizable. Everyone used the Act 2 merc cuz apparently he was "The Best." Everyone had the same Red-chested Pike-wielding ]regular haircut black hair guy that you see in EVERY game! Please blizzard, make this MUCH different (perhaps hair-styles to choose, or just have different looks for the different names, or maybe even make the equipment he is wearing show!)
Make it scarier! Diablo 2 never really scared me, it was creepy, but it never SCARED me. (hate to bring up another game, but) Doom 3 scared the living s*** out of me, fireballs coming out of nowhere and you have NO clue where the bastard is, its AWESOME! Diablo 3 should have MUCHOS GRANDES more scariness. Nuff' Said.
Banlist. In Warcraft 3 hosting games was made alot easier to keep the douchebags out due to the banlist, simple, efficient, and easy to maintain. I request that the host be able to "Boot" people from the game, especially if they are being complete morons.
Arena. In Diablo 2, dueling was really unnoficial, you could have a string of 90+ ears and it didnt mean anything. In WoW people say the amount of kills you have and they are either "Wow this guy has no life...." OR "Wow this dude is 1337!" Please add in an arena system (not like WoW of course!).
Dueling STAY please! I loved the dueling aspect of Diablo two, even the TPPK. (No I never did it for you nay-sayers!) People fought over having the best gear or the best builds (synnergies are gay anyway!) and it WORKED!!
Runes O-U-T OUT! Runes are by far my most hatest aspect of Diablo Two (runewords to be specific) mainly because of there unbalanceness. Rares//Uniques should ALWAYS be the best items you can get, not some 4 Soc PoS Armor.
Town Porting, a good aspect, but more or less runed it for us Hardcore players. Whenever your about to die, BAM save+exit or TP+click. Maybe to counter this you could make alot more town portal shrines around the world of sanctuary.
Remove Save+Exit in wilderness, being when your about to die, bam, save+exit. My suggestion is to only be able to leave the game while in town or not in combat.
Remove teleporting, as it makes way for losers who just Tele to the boss, kill him one-shot with an orb, then move on, really, REALLY, pointless.
Put....in.....the NECROMANCER!!! IDC how, but maybe as a mercenary, or maybe even an NPC, to me the Necro was trademark of the World of Sanctuary, and needs to stay!
Make quests more worth-while so Rushers dont feel so compelled to rush, for instance in Diablo two, no one needs that tower full of gold for Quest 4 Act 1, or no one needs to do the giddbin cuz they have uber rare//unique rings to have instead of the Piece of crap ormus gives you.
I know your already doing this, but I cant stress it enough!
REMOVE. ALL. HACKS. AND. BOTS. Hacks+bots=gay
Thats it, thanks for reading all of this, and if im right this will go straight up with blizzard, and I thank them for reading this and making my opinions feel worth-while. Keep up the good work blizz, i ♥ u!

(edit)
I just remembered something else I wish to be taken out of diablo three. Synergies. (if thats what they are called correctly) They LIMITED the various builds people could do, yes, they maxxed out your damage but everyone had either a hammerdin or a zealadin, it was LAME!!!! For instance one time I had an idea for a healing paladin (holy bolt+various healing auras) but it never worked out because synnergies didnt work for those various abilities, which really sucked! So please blizzard, take out synnergies.

There is my two cents.
remove PVP toggle.
Players must select PVP before entering the game. Once in the game the player is either PVM or PVP.
This solves the issue of players entering PVM player games and griefing.

Much love from a long time Diablo fan.
Clown
For PvP I would like to see some kind of arena, and possibly tournaments like WoW.
Well those are my 5 suggestions, enjoy.
