Dont judge it till you try it? It's like food. Ewwww it looks gross. *takes a bite* hey, this is delicious. Maybe it works for the game, judge the game as a whole not a clip of it. Eat your peas children.
Why do the hardcore Diablo community believe that the presence of evil somehow eliminates the laws of physics, in specific - the ones that Newton and Goethe first introduced in their books; "Opticks" and "Zur Farbenlehre"?
You guys could always go play Failgate:London made by your dark masters...
OH WAIT
LOL
Did you not hear about the "TEAM THAT MADE DIABLO 2 OMG THAT MEANS THIS GAME WILL BE AWESOME" team get hellgate taken away from them from azns? and now they sit in their apartments wondering why they left?
The art-trolling is hilarious
I for one think blizzard should now cell-shade the entire game so I don't have '54,000' QQers
though about 50k of those can't buy the game w/o a parent so who knows if they will get to QQ in game as much as they do here
And now people are arguing that the lighting in a video game isn't at the right angle to create a rainbow...and they can tell this even though the game is viewed from the isometric angle. I wonder what degree angle should the lighting be at in order to create the rainbow? And they mentioned the laws of physics too,...just to make it sound extra intelligent...
I happen to know that out of the people that buy pastries from this specific sub-section of this bakery at this time, 52000 don't like raisins.
And I'm not whining like a baby to make them throw away the old cake, or ask them to bake another cake entirely. I just want them to make cakes without raisins. There's plenty of cakes with raisins for those that like raisins, I argue. But I also argue that it's entirely up to the bakery to decide wheter or not they want to sell me the cake without the raisins, and sell the raisin-cakes to other customers, or even bake two cookies of the same type; one without raisins and one with raisins.
It's the bakers bakery. For years that baker has ran a very successful bakery due to the choices that they've made and the products they put out. If you do not like the products that the bakery puts out, you have the right to seek out another baker. Be it a good decision on the bakers part, or a bad one, they still choose to put whatever they see fit into their products.
No need to be the customer in the bakery crying about raisins when you can easily seek out other bakers who don't put raisins in their cakes.
I've read these boards for a while now. It seems that every time someone voices their opinion on why the game should stay the way it is you feel the need to come in here with your believed superior intellectual skills and be condescending to other members and their opinions. Talking down to them as if they're a child who misunderstands everything. Presenting long over analyzed diatribes about why X is wrong, but that it could all be solved by a few self suggested tweaks. Even going so far as to saying employees at Blizzard should be fired, because they're not of your liking. Nothing says maturity like wishing ill on someone else.
Never once have you stopped to consider that it could be you who is wrong. After all, what you present is merely just another opinion to the argument.
But, alas, I expect you to respond in your typical manner. A lengthy novel sized post about how I'm wrong and why. Hell, I wouldn't be surprised if you wrote me a few paragraphs on the physical properties of raisins and how they shouldn't be in cake in the first place.
Diablo is, and always has been, a fantasy game. I expect to see many fantasy elements, just as their were in the first two games - including over-sized shoulder pads.
Frank Miller said it best:
"People are attempting to bring a superficial reality to superheroes which is rather stupid. They work best as the flamboyant fantasies they are. I mean, these are characters that are broad and big. I don't need to see sweat patches under Superman's arms. I want to see him fly."
I don't wish THESE particular people any harm. I just want them fired for what I percieve to be the greater good.
I didn't say "harm" I said "ill". Meaning anything bad. Losing a job is a bad thing. There's no doubt that they'd find other jobs. But why want them fired because they're not to your liking, or for some "greater good" - whatever that may or may not be.
And as usual, I'm just voicing my opinion. If you feel.. whatever the word is.. offended? Condescended?
No, I am not offended by you nor do I feel belittled by you. Considering this is our first encounter. I was merely making a statement of observation.
But enough about me. Who are you,
Text on your screen.
Except possibly the light you put me in; I'm not deliberately being condescending.
Deliberate or not, you are. Your post tend to be in the, "No, you don't understand. Let me explain it to you" manner. Which is fine when it comes to factual information. But an opinion is neither wrong nor right. Telling them they don't understand their opinion and why it's wrong is talking down to them as if they have the brain capacity of a two year old.
There were insanely oversized shoulderpads in D1 and D2? I didn't see them. They were big in D2, on the barbarian, yes - but the Barbarian was a huge dude, the shoulderpads actually fit him.
The Necro has some larger than average shoulder pads as well. No, I'm not going to post pictures.
But, regardless, if the large shoulder pads fit the Barb in the first two games what's wrong with the direction in the third? He's still quite large. Are they not fitting anymore?
True. But that doesn't mean that people would swallow it if Batman suddently sported a pink tanga, skulking the night, hunting down the forces of darkness with his care-bear-stare. It's about a sense of internal realism, not about a factual "physical" reality, just like I couldn't care less what way a rainbow faces, depending on hemisphere and angle.
The point was that in a fantasy world things tend to be romanticized. Weapons and armor blown up in proportion, colors changed, etc. You do that, artistically, for many reasons. But also because it just "looks cool" (from a personal view anyway).
It seems the only thing people have against them is that they are too "WoWish". Because that's all the arguments are when it comes to the art direction/graphics, or whatever you want to call it. Many of them being hypocritical in their arguments in the first place.
"I hate WoW, it's so dumb and childish! That's why I've never played it"
However, the WoW issue is a whole 'nother topic really. The point of my posts have been to tell you what I've said above.
It looks perfect to me. I think it looks perfect to Blizzard too. If you don't like it, I'm sorry, I guess it's impossible to please everyone. Blizzard can't predict what kind of phobias and tripps some people could have with massive shoulderpads etc.
You cant put undead creatures on a field that looks happy and bright. Unless you make the models and animations so creepy that they really stay out.
The pauldrons are damn oversized/exaggerated. Please look at the barb model in the char page of diablo3.com or look at the scene int the trailer where Spyrky (the barb) talks with Cain. Then seriously tell me how you would feel in them.
The dungeon almost deserves a thread on its own.
I dont know if i can really sum it up here...
You cant put undead creatures on a field that looks happy and bright.
It was incredibly frightening seeing undead walking zombies in bright fields in the movies Dawn of the DeadNight of the living dead and in Day of the dead. Theres nothing more scary than seeing a happy familiar place where you feel comfortable, and then having a dead gross rotting zombie walk from around a corner, only the scare the crap out of you!
Jobs tend to provide income, and losing that income tends to be bad.
I'm not going into the philosophical debate of how it can be "good", finding a better job, blah blah. It's pretty clear that the people you've mentioned enjoy where they are. Wishing them to be fired due to your ill liking of them is slightly childish, and over all not needed.
But it would be such a boring forum if everyone went "I don't like this." or "I like that." and "I don't agree." and nothing else. Where's the passion? Where's the discourse? Where's the linguistic ACTION?
Agree'd, it would be boring. But the fight it old and tiresome. Reading post after post of crying. Reading post after post of you correcting peoples own opinions, explaining why their opinion is wrong.
When people on the internet start debating about the physical properties of a rainbow in a game and if it's scientifically accurate due to lighting angles then it's time to unplug and find a hobby.
There's a difference between being passionate towards something and eerily obsessed with something. Something such as a made up virtual fantasy world.
Seriously though, the "large" shoulderpads on the Necromancer are much more ornamental than anything else. I wouldn't even consider those huge skulls shoulder pads.
Ah, good response!
"Those don't count, they're just for looks!"
I was always a fan of Rembrandt, rather than Salvador Dali, myself.
Congratulations.
Now I'm almost a bit let down! You said you've read so many of my posts!
Indeed. Most are forgettable repeats of everything else that's been said since the games announcement.
I don't like WoW. I make no secret about that, but I don't mind it's art direction anymore. I just don't think it should be a part of the Diablo IP.
Was there as much fuss in the community when WoW was released? Because there's obvious things stolen from the Diablo series.
Which is also a whole 'nother topic! Go figure!
Not really. My replies to you are simple: Stop correcting peoples opinions just because they clash with yours. Some people like the way the game looks. It's shocking, I know. It's relevant to the thread at hand because people have been expressing their opinions in which you quickly rush in and slap their hand telling them no.
Now, should I expect another round with you? You strike me as the type that always has to get the last word in and just won't let things be.
Wouldnt it be better if the zombies stay out more from the nature?
Second:
"Please look at the barb model in the char page of diablo3.com or look at the scene int the trailer where Spyrky (the barb) talks with Cain. Then seriously tell me how you would feel in them."
Also you have to move a lot in them.
Third:
Trust me, they can make the dungeon ten times better. Not only for me, better for everyone.
Though i dont know if i can prove this with one or two sentences, there was already a lot of discussion about it.
Now even if you say the undead are creepy enaugh and you will feel very cofortable in those shoulder pads (which are almost as big as your head), or try to explain me that the dungeon looks totally perfect, im sure youll be the only one...
...
Or, maybe a few more.
^^^ OPINIONS.
Of course we can drone on all day that this or that could be made "better". But in the end it's opinion because your idea of better is not mine.
THe zombies pop off the screen and look scary enough - they are covered in blood. What else does it take to satisfy you? How much more creepy can we make them from the isometric angle?
"You cant put undead creatures on a field that looks happy and bright. Unless you make the models and animations so creepy that they really stay out."
This is a baseless opinion. You can have zombies in a sunny field. There's no rule against it. The land in the shown outdoor level isn't sunny, as much as it has an autumny beauty. It's pretty, but not overly so. There is a dark tone to it's twisted stylized trees and painting looking tree leaves.
Wouldnt it be better if the zombies stay out more from the nature?
Like I asked before: How do you propose to make them stand out more? They pop off the screen for me and I see them instantly. Blizz did their job. They look pale and freaky and bloody. What else do you want?
Second:
"Please look at the barb model in the char page of diablo3.com or look at the scene int the trailer where Spyrky (the barb) talks with Cain. Then seriously tell me how you would feel in them."
Also you have to move a lot in them.
I'm enjoying a fantasy game in which a buff barbarian wears big heavy armor. There's nothing wrong with that. You want to make points about whether or not a super hero can move in his super armor? Then you've put standards of realism in place that hinder the fun of the fantasy. it's silly to place standards of realism on something like armor size in a fantasy game. If they were as large as mountains I could see your point, but to me, he looks like a bad ass. Big shoulder pads tend to have that effect on the viewer - so it works to give a larger than life hero dominating looking shoulder pads. They aren't out of place. It still feels Diablo to me.
Third:
Trust me, they can make the dungeon ten times better. Not only for me, better for everyone.
Though i dont know if i can prove this with one or two sentences, there was already a lot of discussion about it.

Amazing point. It can be better...great.
Maybe those big shoulderpads are also used for boiling soop or some kind gulijash, or maybe at first glance monster would tell "i think we shouldn't mess with this guy, look what big shoulderpads he has... gosh... it gives me creeps..."
dont know about sight degree but i think with that outfit he could see just what is only in front of his nose.
it is fantasy still, but there is a lot ways to depict it and Diablo should stay to its roots.
Bigger shoulder pads aren't about roots. They are about an aesthetic that works in fantasy and gives the heroes a larger than life look.
Sunlight = OK
childish cartoon colours = NOT OK
Childish cartoon artstyle = NOT OK
Hmm...
Don't ya know that sunlight is what creates the colors. There for because of sunlight there are the "childish cartoon colors"...(besides, how can you group colors into a category like that?)
And...childish cartoon artstyle...isn't that spongebob?
First thing that came into my mind.
But i think you should get the point.
You can put zombies in a field. Sorry, but you can. And you won't get cold while doing so like you would wearing shots while skiing.
Well you obviously cant make them stand out more.
So its a good idea to alter the environment surrounding them a bit.
Those zombies pop off the screen. Why fix it if it ain't broken? Because you want it to suit your personal view into what Diablo is?
Tell me, wouldnt it be much more kickass if there would be fog coming out of the dungeon entrance?
And all the flowers and grass under the zombies, staying near the entrance, is rotten and colorless, so after killing all those damn things and moving forward, you finally meet with the wonderful nature.
That works. But it also works the way Blizz has it - as in you're in corrupted tombs and finally you step out into nature.
Thats more 'contrast' than creating a happy environment and just putting the undead on it. Thats like (as someone else said) little dots on a big piece of paper.
Contrast? sure. Is it needed to make the game better? Nope. It's you wanting to see something you didn't on a level they made just to show off the game. Be patient and see what else they have in store.
These certainly look just as kickass (if not more, but that would be my "opinion") as shoulder pads that are as big as my head and are still more 'realistic', or better said 'immersive':
or
Yeah, it can be a lot better for many people, and at least a little better for people like you...
You can say any game, even the best of games, could be better in some regard. It won't get us anywhere. I think you say things like this because you truly believe that your vision of diablo is what's best for the franchise. It's not very fair to the game makers if you have this attitude. They won't ever be able to satisfy you - unless they do it your way.

In layman's terms;
Water + photons = FUCKING RAINBOW!
Yea, so do I. I also really liked act2, and kinda wished there were a bit more sunlight in act1/3/5. (;
