Indeed. You must be tired with the whole world then, because that's what people naturally do. That's what you do, that's what I do, that's what he does, that's what Jay Wilson does, that's what George Bush, Shaka Zulu or the average joe does.
At least that is the impression the world has left me with.
George Bush doesn't have an opinion... he is a soul-less robot.
Now as for a new art director... who gives a flying crap. No one has any idea how Blizzard works internally. For each company a position means a different thing. For all we know he could be the guy that watches over people and says good job while someone is in the back making all the decisions. What do you think would happen if a movie director completely deviated from the script? The director usually only orchestrates, he doesn't change the original idea.
And to Shelledface... would you shut the hell up. You talk like what you say is fact. We get your stance already that you think the game is targeted towards 4 year old girls with barbies and hello kitty dolls. You should really stop your moaning as I think your point has been made and all your doing right now is just constant bitching to the point where nobody gives a damn about your opinion anymore.
You guys have to wonder though seriously... Why are they targeting Kids with the colors and affects and style when the diablo franchise has always been about M rated style.
Honestly and seriously, why target kids in an M rated franchise with their current art features, the brightness and funky feel of it. That's all I'm saying... Get your panties out of a knob folks, this franchise really does need some new art direction... even if it is only a subtle one. Sometimes when you work on a game for years and years all you start to see is that game, AKA old art director being lead designer from WoW, but I guess hes gone now so whatever.
Jay Wilson has already explained it. Jesus christ do you read anything other than your own posts? The game started out dark and they revised it several times. Jay has explained exactly why and it makes sense.

What a shame that jay wont be directing anything other than hello kitty islands expansion pack now. Booya.

Alright Shelledfade. You need to stop.
If you're going to go nuts about this info, go nuts in this thread. Stop jumping into other threads and throwing this unannounced (by mods and media) and yet to be commented info in to other threads. Your level is spewing sky high. Keep the discussion in the thread. If this news is not commented on yet, it could mean anything. This art director could simply be the art director of a specific part of the game, Blizzard (nor any other company) does not need to tell the whole world why they're hiring nor the job specifics. If you meet the requirements, and agree to the brief description of the type of work you'll do. Good, you'll know the rest when you even get the interview for the job.
Stop assuming Jay is fired. His art direction may not be the best (and I agree). But throwing false news everywhere is immature.
While I agree it would be pretty awesome if his so far disappointing work had caused him to somehow leave I agree with Flaming, its by no means confirmed and I think there is very little chance he is actually being replaced. I will believe it when I see something a lot more concrete.
So Blizzard is looking for an art director, how does that affect the release day?
Its not so much that the specific job leads me to believe there is a lot of work still to do, but the fact that they're still figuring things out, and we all know that new hires takes some time no matter how far up the corporate ladder. Looking for a fresh set of eyes, especially to lead, could result in major changes which take time.
I have my fingers crosses that they're just adding and adding people to get things done quicker.

"The gaming public now has focus on Diablo again, and with it comes the modern-age of trolling and jackassery."
Well, since they made us wait for 7 years, I'd say I can live through another year of delay. Because I don't really give a shit when it's released, I just want it released. Some time.
I'd rather wait an extra year for a product I'd buy than have it be released 'on time' for a product I wouldn't buy.
Those 7 years, guess what. They spent those 7 years going with different art styles. 3-4 of them.
Edit: Odd that they announced this on the 5th - my birthday. Hell yeah. Happy Birthday indeed.
You guys are blowing this whole thing out of proportion. There can be many art directors working on a project, this doesn't mean anything other than they want someone in charge of particular group of artists. Since the art design has pretty much been solidified as announced by blizzard, chances are that this will not impact the art design at all. This is just an FYI.
Kotaku recently noticed Blizzard put a new job opening for a Diablo 3 Art Director. Kotaku is investigating with Blizzard whether Morrisroe is stepping down as Art Director, if he was filling up temporarily the position or if this means Blizzard has decided to change the art direction. -- read more.
Art Director
Blizzard Entertainment is currently looking for a talented, motivated, and experienced art director to lead the Diablo III art team. For this position, you must be highly organized with outstanding communication skills and proven experience in management. We're looking for a proven track record of shipping AAA products in an art director role. Experience modeling and texturing assets for a diverse visual range of environments and a solid grasp of form, color, and light for both 2D and 3D art assets are also essential. You must be experienced at mentoring a team, able to work well in an environment of artists who are passionate about making great games, skilled in another art task (illustration, modeling, texturing, animation, or concept drawing), and well-versed in related tools (Maya, Photoshop, etc.).
UPDATE:Kotaku confirmed that Morrisroe left Blizzard to pursue a personal company outside of the gaming industry. Art Direction will remain the same, and the new to be hired Art Director will be instructed to continue managing the art team with the same art style as to date. -- read more at Kotaku. Thanks, Jugzor.
- Shacknews also got word from Blizzard on Brian Morrisroe's leave.
- Tracey John, MTV Multiplayer journalist informed us that they got a reaction from Blizzard on this topic.
I hope they just cancel the game at this point. It isn't worth all the drama.
If you want the truth, if he was fired, it was for disclosing bad pieces of concept art which allowed people to see things they weren't supposed to see.
But yeah, this could mean a few things. It's likely that Brian Morrisroe either stepped down or needed to be replaced for a completely unrelated reason. Or perhaps, due to mounting pressure from the fan outlash, he decided to fall back into a less important role.
I can't believe you just did a double conjunction. You sir, fail at the english language.
Anyways, I don't think this will affect the art direction much at all. I agree with the Kotaku writer. They're probably hiring a new guy just to tie up loose ends.
That dude never says anything that is unbiased or constructive and often insults people... your better off doing what I did and ignoring him imo.
I'm pretty certain this whole "new art director" is nothing and has been blown out of proportion.
