I dont get why everyone is jumping on the "MMO" bandwagon. Diablo would make a horrid MMO unless it breaks the monotonous MMO staple. I hate the same-old "click n wait" gameplay mostly all MMOs have and it wouldnt work for Diablo. we'd need a hack n slash MMO.
and just cause they say "we have more things in store for the Diablo series" doesnt mean its gonna be an MMO. it could mean more games in the series that dont focus on the current storyline, a movie, an animated series, a toy line, a fast food joint, anything.
I dont think Blizzard would even have another pay-to-play MMORPG so soon either. it would seriously cut out WoW's subscribers. its never a good idea for a company to have multiple MMOs, unless they differ drastically from each other to warrent diff playstyles, gameplay and theme - to attract players who arent interested in playing the other MMO. And if Diablo's art direction is any indication, we'd have 2 WoWs, which wont help much.
It doesn't take billions of dollars to do that, mate. You use billions of dollars to build mansions, not develop code and higher 20 or so people for live help.
it does take much money to have so many employees. And theres not just 1/server on each shift. Now count how many servers there are worldwide and do the maths. Even with the minimum possible wages its alot of money. To keep the servers maintained costs also alot of money. They simply must have good service and as low latency as possible because we pay them to.
And as a sidenote on the code development, Blizzard games are the best developed so far. a 56k line managed to hold 3 computers with WoW running without lag (unless you were in major cities). Thats what we're paying for.
Um, no- it doesn't take thousands of people to moderate hacks and dupes. It takes efficient programming- otherwise you're just fighting a fire with a gasoline-soaked tissue. Programming is what's needed for Diablo.
right, the people that moderate everything arent moderating for hacks. They're overlooking the chat mostly for harassment (or to keep the conversations RP on the roleplay servers). And of course to help the users with whatever problems they may have. The programming of the game apparently worked and works just fine.
I'm not saying you're drawing conclusions from way by the following argument, but I think it's true: Diablo has been said repeatedly by developers that it's a fast instant action game, designed to be played hard instantly, specifically for the people who can't sit for endless hours because of jobs, family, real life, etc. (although I do this with Diablo II, anyway.) WoW, and all games like it, are designed to be real time consumers- it's how they make their profit. They're designed to be sit down and play with single characters for a long time. There's no problem with that.
the Diablo single-player series, yes, has been a fast paced action rpg. But the Warcraft series was a RTS series too before WoW helped the franchise evolve. And there will be a Warcraft 4 i'm sure about that.
Now the arguement about what Diablo was made for isnt that valid. It wasnt made for people that dont have time to spend on games. It was made to make people have fun with it. Just as WoW. And just like that it did. We spent thousands of hours with Diablo and Diablo II. Made many characters level over 90 (some even several 99ers) kept doing mf runs, making characters to check new specs (since we had to make other chars to check another spec) and doing pvp. Thats about the same you do on WoW. Only that WoW has something for the most hardcore players that makes (or made us that quit raiding) us feel its worth staying. It takes more time but thats why its for the most hardcore players.
Changing things like lag duping- where an immense amount of lag is created to duplicate things- are engine problems. Things like MH are along the same line, although they have released a series of minor patches that fix up the protection system on the servers (Warden) which keeps a careful eye out for certain types of manipulations that are readable by it, but it has limits, since it doesn't have access, nor can safely get access to without infringing on privacy policy of Blizzard, your computers direct running data (because by definition it would be a third party program accessing your files and observing them, instead of just loading in new data, it's invading privacy.)
And they released that Warden with v1.11, right? How faster would that have been developed if someone paid for the security fixes? With the free online service you couldnt demand such fixes. When they added it people were grateful. In MMORPGs we demand those things. And usually we're safer from the start.
Lol, they're as different as black and white- story, characters, playability- the fact one is an RTS and one is an RPG (MMO-style.) There's a big difference there.
isnt hack & slash RPG with MMORPG very different too? If not, why are you complaining about how different a MMORPG in the Diablo setting would be?
I dont see why everyone here hates the idea of an MMO. You people cannot afourd 15 dollars a month? You people do not like the fact that with an MMO, Blizzard can expand on the diablo universe soo much! Everything you read in novels, you cannot put that into Diablo 3. You could easily do it with an MMO.
Hell, I wouldnt mind leveling in a Diablo MMO, getting to max level, taking a red portal with a raid of 40 people, and kicking the shit out of Diablo! Or going back to see how the Horadrim started.
I think for most of you people here, you like the fact that with Diablo you can play alone and be bored as shit while some may escape the lives they live, that they do not enjoy. How could you not like the fact of playing a social game and having a good time?
I play World Of Warcraft, I raid all high end content, and it is very fun!
Yes. I want to play a Diablo MMO, because I can think of all the great things Blizzard can do with a Diablo MMO.
How epic is it as playing single player, and beating the hardest boss in the game by your self?
While the fight lasts 1 minute.
Or how epic would it be to fight the hardest boss in the game, with 40 people having an intense fight, with NPCs helping you?
Just my 2 cents.
I always found fighting Diablo as the greatest hero in all of Sanctuary far more epic than being 1 of 40 foot soldiers who can get killed one on one by any elite trash mob in the game.
Don't get me wrong, I love wow, but I do find 1 on 1 bosses more epic than the 40 man encounters for the reasons mentioned.
“We also tried to focus a little more on bringing characters back, and not just from ‘Diablo II’ but from ‘Diablo I,’”
This immediately made me think of Adria, she was an awesome mysterious character who could be explored in much greater depth. Adding weight to the idea that she will make a return is that in Dekard Cain's journal on the D3 website he mentions her specifically, like the devs are casually reminding old players and introducing new ones to the character. Exciting!
Wonder if we will here more from Ormus and that assassin who was watching him in Kurast?

I think it's almost certain that Adria will appear again. She was the most interesting out of the original characters that didn't appear in Diablo 2. Wouldn't mind a bit of Ogden either, he amused me.
Well, he's definately dead. You can see his body in Diablo 2.
Damn, haven't played Diablo 2 for awhile.
Who is left then? I think we can all assume that Wirt is dead unless his torso is hopping around. Griswold is obviously gone, so by my reckoning that leaves Farnham, Gillian (yawn) and Peppin. Unless their corpses were also in Diablo 2? Really has been too long hehe.
I suppose they could bring some of the non town characters back as well. Wouldn't mind Lachdanan, that guy was cool (though scared the shit out of me the first time I saw him, thought he was some crazy boss haha).
I would cry tears of joy if Gharbad the Weak was in it, though seeing as you kill him I suppose that's as likely as the Butcher returning...

this article says it will be something different
world of tony hawk pro skater?

Also, I don't think any one has mentioned lachdannon, the knight in hell that gives you his helm. I wish he would come back, I miss him.
Edit: Ok, he was just mentioned above, just missed it.
well since Wirt's penis is a mace in WoW
perhaps they will return him to his former glory to reconcile with what they did to the diablo team
