To develop WoW, blizzard used lots of things they learned from Diablo.
Sockets for example.
We didn't have socketed items in WoW until the release of Expansion.
Lots of skills and talents where imported from Diablo as well...
They even improved this in WoW... Now you can replace a gem into the socket, and loose the old gem...
In Diablo, once we have gemmed an item, It couldn't be removed...
They developed a much better way to place the items on an inventory in WoW that it was in Diablo... So, it is fair that we, Diablo fans, can have this too...
It is not bad, and won't change our feeling on playing Diablo...
We can even use more solutions from WoW...
To Unlearn skills and stats for example...
I play Diablo for a long time... Diablo 2 since beta stress test...
I've created more than 30 lvl 80+ chars... Just because I had new ideas for talents and skills... Or because I was lvling a sword barbarian and then I found a much better mace...
I had to make a new char, because I'd have wasted points in dex...
Other thing they could do is a Bank of items for an account... So you could deposit an item there and log in into a new char to pick up the item...
Or maybe a mail system... So we could send items/messages/gold for another player or char, even if they are not online...
We could have mounts on the game...
We could have professions... We could be able to enchant our items...
As for those who said that Unique items are better than rare, is because you are too new to the game...
In the beginning of Diablo2, much b4 LoD, we didn't have exceptional item Uniques... Only regular
For example: Great Sword, Executioner Sword... (Later on LoD, they release a category over the exceptional items)
We only had Great Sword Unique, So... The executioner Rare items were much better...
Much of those rare items found on Diablo2 (Classic) were duped and migrated to LoD and some are still the best on game...
We still have some very good unique items that were the best for some classes because they have UNIQUE stats that would only be possible on that item...
Like Silks of Victor that was an ancient plate with really high def and +1 skill...
What happened is that on LoD, they ruined this item system and decided to release a new over-exceptional class items and to give unique versions to all of them... This way, the unique item became much better than rare... But you still can make some rune-based items, better than uniques...
This new item system brought a problem, everyone was looking alike...
I, personally, don't like it and would rather the rare random stats items to be better than others... But Blizzard has to find a way to unable ppl to dupe, or it won't change anything...
We don't have to worry about D3 being too similar to WoW...
They are trying to reach another piece of the market with Diablo3.. (Same they reached with other Diablo games)...
They won't make a game to fight against their own game... Since wow is leading the MMO market and doesn't seem to have any problems on it...
BTW... Diablo will not be an MMO and they will release a new expansion for WoW...
So... We won't have a WoW 2.0... They are still working on WoW 3.0 (Wotlk)... D3 is a new project
That's all...
I am a really old school player and I can say that I loved everything I've heard and read about Diablo3...
I trust Blizzard skills and I am sure they will hear their customer oppinions and make what is best for the game.
I can't wait for Diablo3...
I can't wait for Diablo 3. Hopefully it doesn't have too much of a WoW feeling to it. They should make it like Diablo 2 but just add and fix some stuff.
It's been a while since I've played Diablo 2, but when I did I hated how my inventory was always full. When I played WoW I didn't run into that problem nearly as much. Which is why I am happy they are making the bag spaces.
I think the bag system is a neat modification. Item space will always be a problem, it's really just a matter of how fast it becomes a problem.
One thought I had - anyone here played Baldur's Gate II? I'm sure a few have. BG2 had the single-tile item inventory system too. A lot of RPG's do, but one thing I found cool was that there was a 'special' or 'unique' gem bag that one would find once or twice in the game, which allowed "endless" storage (not really, but comparatively it was much more than an ordinary gem bag). I wonder if D3 will have one or two of these rare bags to collect (a bag to store any item, of course), in which one can stash a whole lot more items than one would in an ordinary bag.
(I haven't played a wealth of RGP's, so excuse me if the unique-bag find concept is more ubiquitous than I am aware of).
As for some of the other comments...it's always funny to read how over 10 or 15 pages of threads, one finds a helluva varied array of opinions over a specific thing. I think Blizzard must be scratching their heads going "make up yer minds will ya!". Anyway, I think most people are OK with the bag system. As for the color tones...well, it's WOW-esque, but heck, I think there'll be plenty of gothic in D3, so I think both the scary and fantasy aspects of D3 are satisfied. Imo Blizzard are on the right track
Now just waiting with respectful patience for an announcement on a release date!
How can you compare ( weapon icon ) and diablo2 unique shields in the inventory.. the difference is such... vastness...
i always adored bone shield, or unique shields, or bone mask, or spiked shields...and with this - "icons" ( baby stuff - sorry ).. it just, doesnt give any sense...
If you forgot how cool looked armor or weapons in d2 just go, open your char and look at unique weaps/armors.. they look great..
If they reduce them to 5*5 super small icons.. meh.. big dissapointment..
even if it wil be 10*10icons..
Dude, this lurker here has THE solution: "Dear Blizzard, make all items take a 5*5 square in the inventory grid, like WoW; it's fine and we support it, because when we get 5 bags, we'll hack'n'slash for hours before having to sell the loot in town. BUT make it so whenever we delay the cursor upon the item we want to examine (or right click it), a side picture appear somewhere, so we can see out precious Uniques in full detail."
MD would you assume the game will come out in the next 6 months or year?
This game might take up to year or two. It is not easy to date a Blizzard game. It is ready when it is ready. If we take Starcraft 2 as an example, it started development after August 2003. That's nearly 5 years of development. It was announced May 2007. And a year has gone, and at WWI it was said the single player is 1/3 done. Now apply the same timeline to Diablo III, and compare.

I also saw a "Small Bag" drop which didn't make it to this list. I guess you need bags for more space just like WoW too.
Kazo sent me two more screenshots, which I haven't updated. I have gotten a lot of PMs on MSN and ICQ from fansites keeping me busy. I am also exporting some video into a USB-drive before returning the macbook to the rentals. One of the screenshots shows the bag loot -- so that pretty much gives away what might be in plans for the inventory system. WoW Bag system is pretty cool in my opinion. Diablo II's system was very limiting. It's time to improve and expand.
im curious as to what the rank system is for on certain skills. example: Rank 1/1 on shout, Rand 4/5 furios charge ect. is that the level of the skill or what?
I dont understand why everyone has a problem with Diablo evolving, bringing in new changes, I know no one likes change but its only going to be for the better. I think the new bag system is a great idea and should work perfectly!
evolving does not equal turning into a colorful cartoonish game, but we'll see what they pull out of their hats

i reall think poeple like you are going to delay this game another 4 years when they have been working on it for 5 already. I can see both sides how it may be cartoonish even tho i woulnt dream of actually calling it that. it has the flavor of the old diablo games. just look at that dungeon in the gameplay preview, how much darker do you want it? its certainly a bloodfest already. if it were to cartoonish, i dont think it would be rated M
evolving does not equal turning into a colorful cartoonish game, but we'll see what they pull out of their hats
- Gothic and obscure scenarios, cryptic, dark and shadowy dungeons
- Graphically realistic world with realistic, dirty and muddy textures
- Realistic armory and weaponry without over-sized and exaggerated proportions like big shoulder guards
- A macabre, dark and realistic art style
^ thats from your petition. but really? Over sized shoulder pads? lol. after a patched released in LOD you could add a gem and your armor would be purple... ya thats really gothic and cryptic, i think your just to old school, maybe afriad of change. i think everything your asking for in the petition are already present, your just to hooked on D2.
1 slot for 1 item is much much better, saves space allows for more magic finding if there is such a thing in D3. And also gets rid of the need for so many damn bank characters ugggghh what a pain that was. Hopefully they keep this idea and stick with, the old grid was just to waste full.

Speaking of Starcraft 2, I was at Gamestop today. I asked about the release date, and they said that they get contacted by Blizzard with pre-release date estimates. Currently, SC2 is scheduled to ship Dec 3, 2008. However, gaming websites they get info from said that "Blizzards reps said they would try to ship SC2 by Christmas, but they said it might be pushed back until January or February." (Gamestop Employee).
MedievalDragon, I would like to know if you have any insider info I haven't found yet, or any good guesses. SC2 as a Christmas present would rock my world... baby.

What is normal? Normal is a concept that everyone or a majority of people are the same or similar. However, we know that everyone is unique. If everyone is unique, then everyone is different. If everyone is different, then everyone is weird. If everyone is weird, then everyone is normal.
I've been playing Diablo for a long, long time now, and one of the things that always bugged me was the constant ports to town to unload loot. I do feel that this system was needed to keep the action going without constant interruptions.
That being said I actually like the bag system in WoW and I don't feel that having that system will really distract from the feeling that I'm playing diablo3 at all.
I agree with this. A logical system shouldn't be overlooked because of nostalgia in this case. Spending all sorts of time configuring items so you can fit just one more is fun and all, but id rather spend my time smashing demons.
One of the things I hate about WoW is all the micromanagement of consumables that is needed. In Diablo 3, healing and mana potions are fine, but I hope they do not introduce needless complexity in the form or food and drink, or the need to hoard a profusion of different kinds of consumables on the off chance that one of them will be needed to get past a certain boss that has special immunities, etc. Things in Diablo 2 are already too cluttered with all the different gems, runes and charms that fill up your inventory in case they might be of use at some point, as well as the need to carry around scrols of identify and town portal.
I suggest following the example of Titan Quest and getting rid of the need to identify stuff, and giving every character the ability to cast town portal from the very beginning.
I love the new look of the inventory. I'm so glad that they got rid of the grid system and put in something alot more managable. I also like the look at the equip area above it to. It looks alot like the WoW inventory equip area.

Since the beginning... I have existed
Peace is a lie. There is only Passion.
Through passion, I gain strength.
Through strength, I gain power.
Through power, I gain victory.
Through victory my chains are broken.
this is the problem that you should solve , and the fun is in the solving itself, becouse - every single person solve this problem different than others - which make really interesting universe of diablo.
anyway - as much you play and think about possible ways for solving one or another problem , as much it becomes more interesting the game itself.
There should be upgrades and runewords, upgrading runewords, failing of upgrades, runewords sets of armor and weapons, gem sets ( like - when you got all on you with some gem set - you start to shine in alot diferent colors ), set of armors, eceptional sets - special sets, and so on ...
GAME ITSELF MUST BE RATED FOR 16+ YEARS !
Well,
I just hope they will bring an original content which I will spend more time solving more interesting issues on the game than how I am going to arrange my items on the Inv...
I don't think making the player loose 5 mins arranging items for every 15 mins farming is a good way to attract players to the game...
Hi, new here but imo people get excited over Diablo 3 because Diablo 2, not because they want a whole new game but because they have enjoyed the past Diablo games. If they make this a D2 version of WoW then this game will definetly not be as much fun to me because I come to expect a certain theme and playstyle from Diablo that does not include WoW.
I say bring back D2 style inventory. I'd rather bitch about inventory size and see the awesome graphics that Diablo 2 had than look at tiny little pictures.
