according to Blizzard no class will be similar to another. They want the game experience to be unique for each class.
having a Witch Doctor that can summon pets (we only saw those dog like creatures whos names i forgot again but there will be more), wall of zombies, fire explosions, disease and pet explosions means we're not having a necromancer who is the one of the two classes that used corpses.
1. Corpse Explosion looks too similar to pet explosion = no Corpse Explosion around.
2. As the official site mentions about the undead, skeletons arent made of one corpse, but of pieces. According to it, a skilled necromancer (not saying hes going to be implemented - since he has so many similarities to the WD i dont think he will) could summon skeletons everywhere (only it would be easier in a graveyard than in the middle of a forrest - but you get my point).
3. they havent mentioned potions at all, so i'd guess "find potion" will also not be included in Diablo III.
as of the rest of the skills that required corpses? I think they'll either change their description (as they did with "summon skeleton") or completely reform them (as they did with corpse explosion / pet explosion).
i do believe the official explanation about the performance issue if the corpses remained, mostly because of the amount of enemies we usually fight (and we saw the barbarian fight in the gameplay video). Physics calculation with that amount of enemies and the barbarian bashing everything around would take alot resources.
off-topic but Macedonia is a city in Greece and not a country!
i think after the first few battles in D3 we will not care about corpses. and here is my logic... the enemies are demons and creatures of hell right? so after they die the body's are dissapearing and they are going back to hell... its pretty logic to me...
Hey look! Foot in mouth. While it may be a city in greece it is also a country right next to albania and bulgaria.:D
the enemies are demons and creatures of hell right? so after they die the body's are dissapearing and they are going back to hell... its pretty logic to me...
Very wrong.
Blizzard said that still the Worlstone is destroyed, Demons and Angels are now MORTALS, so they don't back in Hell nor Heaven when dying.
That's why (if we spot on the background/storyline) corpses should stay !
Please do look up that source Haeon. I am very interested in that. I don't remember hearing that from Bliz but it would be a very important element in the storyline and how the game play works.
Sryii : My mistake ! My source is very unofficial !
The end of the Worldstone has also brought changes to demons and the demonic realms. They are now mortal, and with this knowledge, the demons are less eager to throw their lives away, as death means oblivion rather than inconvenient banishment. This new-found recalcitrance has given humanity respite from the assault. Humanity's control expands once again, and now the world is split into areas controlled by demons, and areas held by people. Humans and demons now fight for control of a landscape dotted with shards of the Worldstone.
This info is about 2003, surely wrong nowadays but it has made to much sense for me that i assimilate it as right. Sorry !
Anyway, about the vanishing corpses, just stop the physic will be enough for me as i want to have this feeling of slaughter after having bad time with hords of monsters !
Even flat pixelised bloody corpses will be enough...
i dont think bodies pinned on the ground after their death will look that good. I'd rather be able to smash them and move them around (maybe throw them off cliffs too) than have a pile of corpses that slows my performance down (there are going to be MANY corpses) that i wont stay to watch anyway.
And lowering the details/removing the physics from them wouldnt feel right.
The only good suggestion i read in here was to add despawn animations that wont eat too much power and will make it look at lealst decent.
Offtopic: about "Macedonia" its official name thats also used in every major alliance such as the EU. The fact they're trying to "change" history and take parts of another nations history for themselves (along with the name) is the main reason they arent accepted in any of the major alliances. My country has a part in it and i'm proud. My nations history expands over millenia. If another countrys doesnt, they could start fresh and create it, not steal another one because they live nearby.
even though Wikipedia is open source and anyone could insert stuff in there, its also mentioned that the only name accepted internationally so far is Former Yugoslavian Republic Of Macedonia (aka F.Y.R.O.M). While it also mentions how it only has around 40% of the geographical region called Macedonia (that part is greek).
anyway, back on topic, i dont think its of that big importance how long the corpses stay before they dissapear/decompose/burn to ashes or whatever. Whats important is the feeling you get till you kill them and for the next few seconds. Because thats about how much time we'll spend with them.
You probably dont know european history and you dont deserve the answer... but just because U.S.A is saying F.Y.R.O.M as Macedonia that doesnt mean that the name has been recognize oficially by anyone! so.. keep your idiotic thought and read history and learn about it!
Wow! Such hate! You are right my European History education is focused more on the Baltic area rather than the Balkans. But honestly there is no need to get rude about it. Here I was assuming that because the U.N. and the EU considered the name FYROMacedonia legitimate that they would be considered people other than the US that recognize it as such. I guess I was wrong!
Haeon: Thanks for looking that up! Even though it is old it doesn't mean it doesn't fit. Thank you.
Edit: It seems that the governing body there like to refer to themselves as the Republic of Macedonia perhaps we should refer to them as they wish to be called.

Bah! I love necro. I will miss him if he goes. Corpse explosion rules! Incredibly effective in cramped corridors
Just because wont we returning, doesnt mean that corpse explosion will not be returning aswell. Hey, they may have a new attack, "Corpseless Explosion!" basically telekenesis.

Please GTFO and never return. D3 will not have a monthly fee.
It would make sense that they'd disolve corpses over time to handle the strain on the computer calculations. Ya don't really need corpse explosion with all the new stuff they're bound to replace it with, but if you did, you could still have it set to disolve bodies in say a 30 second window, giving you more than enough time to blow them up before hand - just make it more inconvenient.

Nothing happens to you, but everything happens for you.
Off-topic: how can there be dumbasses who deny the right of a whole country to choose it's name!?
there is a right of a country to defend its history and thats stronger than the "right" to chose a name to steal ones history. Macedonia is the name of a region, not a simple country. Accepting that will open up possibilities for territorial claims which we (speaking as a greek) wont accept.
Simple as that.
Say some country in the South America claims the name of "America" and starts claiming to have the history of the whole continent. Its extreme, but with the smaller region of Macedonia (of which around 60% is greek and is populated by greeks) is easier to try.
Also the try to claim the history of the ancient Macedonian Empire for themselves is as pathetic as not knowing their own history.
end of the off-topic discussion.
If you want to discuss it any further open a thread in the off-topic/spam section and lets talk about it there.
on topic i completely agree with liquid on his point. You cant have an option when you have skills that can use corpses for anything. Its either something you have, or you dont.

Yeah! Hope is renewed! Although causing monster minds to spontaneously explode through sheer thought does sound like a fun skill. Might have problems with skeletons though^_^
It seems to me that the developers are set on making the corpses disolve in order to fix lag issues. Calculations on things they are probably looking at as unecessary would seem a bit odd. Blizzard has always made games that are widely available to everyone, not just the upper high end computer class, and I rather doubt that will change any time soon. The idea of creating skills based on corpses is fine and dandy but largely inconvenient (Didn't care for that aspect though Necromancer was my first D2 character.) I am under the impression that the necromancer will be completely replaced by the Witch Doctor (as their skills are mirrors for the most part), and they want each remaining class to be unique. Problem solved, bodies aren't really needed, except to say that some people just love to see carnage on the ground. Solution to further implement. . . Create dead bodies that cannot be interacted with that are part of the back ground (As many of the old diablo games had) or something similar with the bodies that you create (Though highly doubtful). Those are my thoughts on it .

Exactly, the devs dont want the game to become "heavy" for the average computer just to have something that has no real use in-game (since they decided to make corpses despawn fast they apparently havent implemented any corpse using skills on any class).
The carnage still exists while fighting and in the next few seconds where you can literally do everything with the corpses, but then they go. And we should go too to kill some more monsters!

How can Macedonia make territorial claims when itself was forcibly divided from bulgaria...
apparently you dont know much about the history of the region.
actually it was divided by the United Yugoslavia after the Civil War. Croatia, Montenegro, Serbia (or commonly Yugoslavia now) and Skopje (also known as F.Y.R.O.M that want to be named Macedonia). Not sure if i miss any other country founded after the Civil War but that seems about right.
And it wasnt "forcibly divided". They demanded independence from Yugoslavia (even if they're almost the same nation - slavic people that moved to the region pretty late in history) and tried to take the name of the (mostly greek) region of Macedonia to have a grip for territorial claims.
History says that they had called themselves "Vardarska" before Tito (general of the United Yugoslavia) changed the name of the region to "Macedonia" to be able to make territorial claims. That happened a good 50-60 years ago i think.
