I decided to check up on Diablo's trademark, and I noticed something I new.
It seems the trademark was "Published for opposition in early 2007, February 13th to be exact.
This means that any competition to the name Diablo now has a chance to oppose the trademark for whatever reason.
WOW was released a year after the name was published for opposition, but that doesn't seem to be the case for Diablo 3.
If there is no successful opposition it will become an official registered trademark and finally ready to be put for sale.
For a refresher, this trademark includes rights for a movie title: "ENTERTAINMENT IN THE NATURE OF AN ONGOING TELEVISION PROGRAM IN THE FIELD OF CHARACTERS AND PLOTS BASED ON A VIDEO GAME; AND PRODUCTION AND DISTRIBUTION OF MOTION PICTURES"; BUT it doesn't look like it will be titled "DIABLO II: SALVATION" as that trademark is now DEAD.
Read: DEAD, like Starcraft: Ghost! LOL (yes, that is officially dead Abandonment Date December 4, 2005)
I would also like to confirm Blizzard's plans on producing in-game communication software. Perhaps you head of this, but Battlechat - "Virtual network telecommunications services, namely, providing an interface for the electronic transmission of messages and data including voice, text, and message transmission" was filed at the USPTO on January 11, 2008

Because if the invisible guy the president believes in isn't the real invisible guy then the real invisible guy gets mad and no longer powers our economy with his invisible hand. Jesus, have you never even read anything about economics?
What is normal? Normal is a concept that everyone or a majority of people are the same or similar. However, we know that everyone is unique. If everyone is unique, then everyone is different. If everyone is different, then everyone is weird. If everyone is weird, then everyone is normal.
Pretty much means a new Diablo trademark was set to be opposed by anyone for what it stood for. If there was no opposition in a year or so, the trademark becomes final and ready to publish. If so, this trademark is registered and ready to be published... So... Just for fun, when was the WWI announced?
Sometime in March? Seems right. Well, that would fit. Once the Diablo trademark became final, they could now use it - at the WWI. If this is true, they seem awfully anxious to annouce this game...

This is amazing. I guess they were waiting for it to be an official trademark before announcement...
Anyway, I have very high hopes, but I'm also scared if they screw it up. I really am.
I've always thought that in the back of my mind... but every game I've played from Blizzard was just beyond amazing compared to it's competition. Diablo III shall be awesomeleetness. I also heard that they felt as if they rushed Diablo II even though they pushed it back... it has been a long time and they have had their time with Diablo III now.
Hell, even though Diablo II: Salvation was not released, they most likely took ideas from that! Also, I believe Frank Pierce said this.. but it said something like "Team 3 is making something totally awesome, I can't give any hints, but it's totally awesome."
That is a generally accepted "rumor" that the Blizzard North team made a crap, non-fun diablo 3 before it was transfered to Blizzard HQ, and scrapped it.

I believe that is a good rumor . I heard somewhere that Blizzard North was making Diablo II: Salvation, and starting Diablo III. Could be a true!
Opposition has 30 days to file. Whether or not the trademark completes registration after the 30 days seems to be a different story. WOW took a full year while a few lesser titles were completed immediatly.
Lets just hope that this second expansion to WOW is the final. It is just unlikely that Blizzard will release D3 with WOW crapping out new content every year.
WOW was announced late '01, and released late in '04. The first expansion was announced late in '05 (1st blizzcon) and released early '07. The second was announced late '07 and might end up like the first being released early '09 (Guess).
If all goes smoothly with the latter model we might hear something late '09.
Both former models point to this year.
O well! who knows? .... Definitely not all the people that keep sending me PMs with their "Inside information" that is for sure...

I don't think that a Diablo III announcement at WWII will make me excited because even if they do announce it, it won't come out on sale for another couple of years.....

agreed, but at least we would know they are OFFICIALLY revisiting the Diablo universe!

Yeah but they could slowyly introduce all of the content like Starcraft 2...keep everyone interested. Would be fun leading up to the actual game.
