unless you mean those are the weapons they get boosts with
id like to see a Royal Champion
as to fill in a kind of back story as to how the dead knights are still fighting against the chars in diablo
(in diablo 1 they were king leoric's kingsguard and the towns demon slayers)
(in diablo 2 they were fallen heros?????? xD)
so maybe a hidden legion of elite polearm and sword bearers
they could be like a mix of magical warriors who instead of using spells with aoe or single targets
they use spells with piercing like bone spear
like if they use polearms they could throw it at the enemy and when thrown it changes form to something like a magical arrow and teleports back after it hits an enemy xD
or if they use swords they do line damage so instead of doing piercing
they would slice across and hit multiple enemies
the spells could do cold/physical damage lol
but only the last spells with slow for long periods
the class would be more about enchanting the weapons with cold and striking multiple times to keep the enemies cold rather than hitting once and they stay cold for like 3 minutes XD
the trees would be Frost Enchanting (can use any weapon but enchants frost to it)
1 Handed Sword mastery (not initial naming just an idea of what the tree is about xD)
Polearms mastery
so theyd be more about using polearms or 1 handed swords (halberd or broad sword for a kind of idea how a portrait of the char would go)
the polearms mastery would have force techniques that do physical damage
while Broadsword would use different forms of techniques for physical damage
polearms would be more about tactically getting your enemies to fight you in crowded areas
while 1 handed swords would be about taking multiple opponents out in big brutish battles
the frost enchanting would be cold enhancers to physical weapons but with different targets and areas of effect
like a frost shield so whenever he blocks it slows enemy by 30%
in higher lvls maybe an ability to create a Glacier Golem
and enchant the Glacier Golem kind of like with the witchdoctor mongrels xD
or a frost Sword so theres a % chance to hit and get a cold enchant
I kind of like the concept of a strong melee char. with the powers of ice and death. Ice is the coolest element and should definitely be consider in combination with a melee character. I dont know about spears and the throwing bit - but I'd like to see an entire tree dedicated to enchantments. I guess it's not "entirely new" but it's so difficult to go beyond the set limits.
I am still not sure about spears, but I guess I was put off by the Amazon. I like the concept of having a spear and a shield but I am still not sure if this is sth I'd wanna see in D3.
no no not spears polearms =3
there hasnt been a real polearm class yet more like all the weapons noone used they gave to the barbarian XD
the throwing thing was just an explanation of how an animation would go but you dont gotta fight without a weapon or is there much of a pause between using it lol
but ya as long as the melee char has no freezing spells it should be fine for a melee char to have cold (freezing is more a defensive maneuver for ranged classes ^.^)
There probably won't be any more pure caster classes until an expansion. We're still missing the staple physical ranged class. Amazon may make a return.
I'd like to see some kind of battle mage. One that can seamlessly blend physical melee combat with damage spells, like in the same follow-through. How cool would that look, slashing up some enemy and finishing with a fireball to the face without any pause. He should use a 1 handed damaging melee weapon in the one hand, and a magical tome in the other.
Theres no chance of as getting a battlemage for the fact that the battle mage concept are inside the wizard conjure tree.
About equipament, D3 will problably only have level restriction. So casters will use plates just like in D1 and D2.
Actually many designs of spears were used for slashing as well as thrusting. The differences between polearms and spears is slight. In reality the spear is just the first and most common type of polearm.
Polearms are very much like spears to some extend with the only difference that you can slash and thrust with polearms and thrust and throw with spears - but my bad. I can go for a character with a spear and a shield like the Spartans but the problem with polarms is they are two-handed weapons and probably wouldnt work with shields.
Still it's an interesting concept but to be honest I dont really remember ever using polearms in any of my games. Enemies always had it lol but not me. Thats why I am not really sure of this - people just dont seem to like polearms. But I am still tempted by the idea.
You serely never played UO !
And i really like polearms... But the barb will surely be proficient with polearms because of the two-handed mastery in the juggernaut tree.
I think this is great because we will not need to build a Barbarian that uses certain weapon type, but rather a two-handed, that will cover all the weapons of that type! So if I have a good axe, but I just found a hammer that is far more better than it, I don't need to bother myself with a fact that I spent all my skill points to axe mastery when this hammer rocks!
Thats right ! Now every barbarian build will have even more options hehe

I am not sure if barb is the kind of guy to pull this off. He more into attack than defense.
Look into the Battlemaster tree. Armor bonus, shield mastery, death proof. Defensive enough imo.

Spears and Polearms doesn't really feel Diabloish.
in eccense i only want the throwing polearms to be a special skill only that class can do xD
but it doesnt destroy it or anything it teleports back xD kinda like a bonespear but reliant off of a % of weapon damage as well
but ya polearms arent connected with spears in anyway. They both from different families of weapons they just similar
polearms tend to be heavier than spears do to usually being made out of steel or some kind of metal
while spears usually have wood attached to a little end of steel or some kind of metal xD so they are way lighter
in diablo 2 scythes were polearms they looked cool and were one of the strongest two handed weapons in the game xD
well the uniques were at least ridiculously stronger than a normal scythe
id like to see more polearms though =3
Also with this class he can attack pretty fast with polearms as opposed to everyone attacking slow or medium with it (barbs get medium att speed) (also only a few of the polearms will actually get a very fast att speed and only the barb and this class would be able to att that fast)
the polearms are a two handed weapon while swords are 1 handed with this class =3
there any more misunderstandings post more here XD
i shall make my point XD
o and i just made an enchanting class thats a warrior of 2 different kinds of weapons xD
only somewhat ranged though look back a page or 2 for details =3
This is just lound thinking. Maybe the barb is gona be an awesome tank character and I know the defensive skills are there but what makes me wonder is will he be able to pull it of through hell using a shield and a one handed weapon. We shall see.
D2 barb could do it very well without shield mastery :3
Yeah, we must see it in D3 (but i bet he can).
I'd like to see some sort of Samurai as the tank class or paladin replacement. I know that would restrict his armor and weapon options looks wise, but hey, I'm no art designer I'm sure there's a way to add variety.
A mechanic that sort of arises from this concept is the Samurai belief that his sword was his soul, and that by harmonising himself with his weapon, the two would become one entity on the battlefield and the true power of the katana would be unleashed. As such you could have a sort of Soul Sword class that via his chakras using his blade as a conduit is able to perform amazing skills.
It could add to the lore and become another race of humans who train in some far off land in temples etc. etc. you know the rest, to become demon slayers, Warrior monks even.
Examples of skills.
Heaven Wall: The Samurai's holy chakras allow him to react with uncanny speed, any melee attacks suffered have a chance to be blocked and instantly countered. (Say a 10% chance maximum, buff like Barb's warcry. Counters go from 50% to 130% weapon damage with increased rank*
Demon Cutter: As a result of heavy training the Samurai is able to accelerate at intense speed, effectively blinking to the target causing 200% weapon damage with a shockwave pulsing from the primary target dealing 125% weapon damage to all hit nearby.
Chakra Edge: The Samurai condenses his chakra into his blade then performs an Iai (A katana technique in which the Samurai draws his katana and slashes his opponent in one rapid motion) which produces a chakra wave dealing damage in a line to any target hit.
Many might hate the idea but I personally love the whole oriental vibe when it comes to warriors, honour codes and all that banter. and it's a theme Blizz haven't really explored in any great detail in Diablo, something new perhaps.
I think that'd be a cool expansion character. That and Necro ^^
My ideas are in my sig
Rollback Post to RevisionRollBack
Ranger - Ranged Weapon Mastery (fire a bow or javelins like a machine gun!), Traps (MK style!), Pets (lions, tigers, and bears oh my!) - physical damage based
Demonologist - Bone Spells (Necro style!), Avatar (shapeshift into a demon!), Furies (evil spirits that hang around you, giving party bonuses) - mix of physical damage and magic
LEAP ATTACK!!!!! PLAGUE OF TOADS!!!!!
SLOW TIME!!!!!
We already have barbarian, and please use the edit button. Double post is so ugly. xD
Why not some floating psy class? That can control the minds of demons, use shockwave kind of attacks etc.
A mix of the mage and necromancer?
Because control other's mind is a WD power and unleash shockwaves is a barbarian power.
And a floating psy class is excentially a caster, but theres already 2 casters. 3 casters of 5 class is out of question. We need a more balanced and diverse class pool for many reasons.
A Shaman is too much like a Witch Doctor in terms of background don't you think?
Imo the other 2 remaining classes must be something very different from the barbarian, the witch doc and the wizard both in terms of gameplay and background.
I think we need a class that pleases the "lawful good" people ( DnD geek lol). Many dislike the barbarian for it's brutal methods, the witch doctor because his a cannibal-voodoo freak and the wizard because his a insane and irresponsable spellcaster. We need a class for people who likes to play with a class that defends our concept of order and justice.
A floating melee character which psychic powers that can wield 5 weapons and make them float around, cutting everything in his path.
Now that would be awesome.
Or have 5 crossbows shooting at the same time.
YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS
I so agree. a ranged character that can shoot 5 bows at the same time hahahahahha
You just proved my point, if 50 other games have those classes, why should Diablo 3?
Yes, I agree. I would rather have Diablo 3 not only be unique in it's gameplay, but in the variety and creativity of characters you can choose as well.
How about a mimic. Learning the skills of monsters and using them against them. I think they had a mimic in one of the very early FFs. I kind of liked the idea and you could really elaborate on the learning of skills system and then using them in different and special ways.
Well, learning other skills wouldn't work because not many skills could be learned at the beginning. It's a good idea -- the mimics, over their vast years of studying, they can perfect a creatures skills by sucking their soul out and devouring it, learning the many arts that once were used by those that lay dead. Now, they have a pool of spells, summons, etc. that they have to choose from to slay the forces of evil -- or something like that, didn't give it much thought and creativity, hehe.
Why should diablo make us of the other 50 classes? Because blending them can make a cool unique character.
If you want a total 100% unique char with 100% unique skills that have never been used before, you'd end up with the most stupid, annoying character there is.
It's a fact. Just because you use a name that ahs already been used, doesn't mean it's not unique.
There are bound to be 1000 people named Richard liek me, but that doesn't make me a little bit less unique.
Diablo 3 wont make copies of older classes, they will blend and re-use good concepts of previous classes and skill.
-end
I agree. There can be good attributes taken from other classes from other games. THat doesn't mean that the character has to look the same or actually even be the same. I say take from the good of old characters and make some changes, enough to make them unique. Don't be blatently obvious about it either.
unless you mean those are the weapons they get boosts with

Necro/Assasin maybes.
ummm - i doubt they will have more than 1 death themed character so goths are gonna have to suffice with the Shaman.
ummmmm... or maybe Spider-Man. sweeet.

Mages wanna cast and whack. Hitters wanna swing and zap!
Fighting Skills, Spell Skills, and Passive skills - OWENAGE!!!!!
A character such as this would surely derserve the crescendo of the Final Conflict!!!
......and i dont mean a paladin, i mean an actual skillfull Knight WITH way wicked Magic.
yes thats right.... wayyy wicked.

There is no place for asian culture in kick ass games like diablo. It's just not cool. at all.
