Barbarians are rude an uneducated. DII barbarians are somewhat polite and pretty educated. I don't see any archetyping here.
A true barbarian is an idiot who screams all day long, kills everyone and everything that disagrees with him, and just kills everything for the fun of it, and he'd never bother with something like saving the world, more like, conquering all surrounding lands. That's the typical barbarian for me...
And I am not sure what you mean by that paladin comment.
I'll also note that I didn't insult you (unlike yourself).
and if your'e not satisfied with that explantaion i have a whole bunch of those...
I dont liek the idea of samuri in D3....

No, thats not even close to the barbarian archetype. O.o
The Barbarian archetype is someone that lives in wilderness, so hes rude, brutal, resistent, instinctive, and feels no remorse on killing. But hes not a even close to idiot, he just disagree with the civilization values and also have their own values like courage and honor... Just say one game, book, movie with a barbarian like the one you said been not a villan.
Theres is alot of things with ''my'' archetype, including the most important barbairan archetyple with no doubts: Conan, the simmerian. Also all the D&D's chaotic good barbarians, Tolkien's Beorn (a character from The Hobbit book that can be seen as a Barbarian-Shapeshifter), that boy with a giant magical club in Dungeons & Dragons animation, some gods in the norse mythology, that guy from Baldur's Gate, etc...
Th archetype you mentioned is just a random evil barbarian villan, not the rustic outlaw heroe i'm talking about. And all the archetype talk here was not imaginated by me -_-' Jay Wilson said that . . .
Oh, I was talking about the REAL ones. You know, vikings, celts, and what not.
Conan is a joke, seriously.
Oh talk about the real ones?
So our paladins (the elite of the templars) should be fanatics, greedy and cruel, once the only thing the knights that take a part in the crusades did was endless slaugther and pillage (to not say the worst).
ALL our good RPG archetypes, including the holy warriors of the church and the wild a but honored barbarian, is based at romantic and idealised fiction, not historical facts.
And if you think Conan = Joke, our Diablo's barb should also be a joke, once he is crealy inspired by him. The own whirlwind attack 've origin in conan's books.
I dont really care about the diablo lore cause if blizzard wanted to they would make it work... Its that simple, people in this forum who have said no cause it doesnt fit within diablo lore are stupid. To the other people who dont like the idea, your stuck in the past the paladin is gone get over it. To the other people who dont want to see a samurai in D3 for some crazy reason you are probably mad WoW players i got some news for you its not WoW so hello kitty is not going to be in diablo, EVER. I'm sorry to break it to you but someone had to.
Yes an asian culture could be made for D3 but then that means that Blizz is going to have to start from scratch and add a history of there part in Sanctuary and a landscape of their homeland.
To me the Samurai has no possible homeland in the world of Sanctuary that fits them.
Didn't they largely have to create a new culture for the Witch Doctor?
The main reason I think they will have one is that they seem to be trying to go for some more exotic type classes in D3 then in D2.

[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]"Fool! You have just ensured the doom of this world. You cannot even begin to imagine what you've set in motion this day. Go to the Temple of Light, in the eastern ciry of Kurast. There you will find the gate to Hell opened before you. You must find the courage to step through that gate Marius. Take the stone you hold to the Hellforge, where it will be destroyed. Now run! Take the stone and run!"
We already have the wizard which comes from the same region so no, not at all. Diablo is soo diverse, it would be stupid to add another asian type of char!
Still i think we need mora a european knight then a samurai. So we'll allready have 2 melee weapon masters.
But i'm really expecting it for one of the expancion sets.
In the end, this debate comes to the same roots as the " Please no Paladin thread". People argue the fact that a samurai warrior would take the place of both the barb (char functionality) and wizard (char origins). I'm not completely against such an idea, but I don't see this type of warrior fit into the Diablo Lore. It's a personal opinion, but I can't see myself as a mighty and courageous Asian soldier ripping demon pieces apart. The samurai, according to me, is too noble to perform such a task. The barb is a savage beast, the witch doctor is a sick and twisted shaman, the wiz is a "on the loose" teenage girl... the samurai is a noble, peaceful warrior (to me, I know in battle it's different). Don't you see him as "out of place?". So finally, the samurai is not Diabolic enough for Diablo.
The Diablo II Paladin is made out of butter.
Seriously, you might want to consult a dictionary

I don't think they would necessarily call it Samuri, just like calling the class "barbarian" rather than "Viking"

I second that.

Actually, scratch that. Replace the Samurai class with a Ronin class.
